Moving forward, I think it should be the norm for the conference champs to get the EASL slots. In case of a team winning back-to-back titles, then the runners-up should have a 1 game match for the remaining slot.

How about a big time match up between EASL champs Anyang KGC vs WASL champs Manama club Bahrain in a best of 3 series... Who would likely win? I'm sure this is epic... Many might say Anyang will win since they will say Korea is better basketball program than Bahrain, But this is club competitions and they have also 2 foreign imports plus multiple outsiders (Non Bahraini players) in their line up... Manama even beat more recognized teams in West regions such as Beirut and Al Riyadi of Lebanon, Gorgan of Iran, BC Astana of Kazakhstan and Orthodox of Jordan... I'm sure Manama will give Anyang run for their money!!!!

No need. The problem with these inter-zonal matches is the scheduling clusterfuck it creates so a lot of times, participation is a matter of availability. Does the FIBA Asia Champions Cup sound familiar? Makeshift PBL teams Andok's Manok and Hapee Toothpaste won it with twice with PBA imports (Bobby Parks Sr., Alex Coles, Tony Harris) back in the ABC days and we've had Gilas 1 registering itself as a club team just to participate when the Philippines hosted it in 2011... the problem is the norm sending a shit team with no imports, if not withdrawing altogether from the competition. Whoever made it to the WASL finals usually makes it to the competition, the EASL isn't really connected to FIBA Asia so for the longest time (pre-COVID)... it was just whoever won the KBL, the B.League, and the CBA who had a chance to play clubs from West Asia.

I'm not sold on Manama. Take out their imports, a UAAP team can beat them... btw, Bader Abdullah Jasim (aka Bader Malabes) of La Salle played his entire basketball career for Manama after his UAAP days.

If Euroleague can do it even different time zones and in Africa has BAL, who has the support of both NBA and FIBA...Then i'm sure they can do here in Asia... They can put top 2 teams in each EASL and WASL together and set a host city for final 4 (BAL and Euroleague doing this).. The reason why FIBA champions cup didn't pan out because of stupid eligibility rules even in Professional set up... But both EASL and WASL using OCA rules, so it means even FIBA ineligibles can play both leagues as locals... Imagine Jeremy Lin playing as a local player in Taiwan league but he can only play as naturalized (or world import) in FIBA rules... That's stupid TBH... I understand if it is in NATIONAL TEAM set up... But it is not applicable in Professional set ups...

I agree if Manama w/o imports, They are not good... But remember, This is professional league that anyone requires multiple imports.. So basically Manama has a chance beating any EASL teams, since they have 2 imports, 3 Arab players (one from Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco) and local players who are also part of their national team... So they are solid team too... The favorites of WASL such as Astana, Al Riyadi and Beirut didn't win... So Manama is a good team too...

Actually, I hope EASL champs next year will get invited for FIBA Intercontinental cup also next year... WASL champs Manama, CBA's Zhejiang Golden Bulls , BAL's Al - Ahly, BCL Europe champs Telekom Baskets, BCL Americas champs Sesi Franca and NBA G-League Ignite are all part of this year's Intercontinental Cup.. Asians badly needed this competition... Who knows, If one of PHL's representative will win EASL next year then they will get big invitation from FIBA and they will face best professional ball clubs in the World... Wouldn't like that idea?

Actually, I hope EASL champs next year will get invited for FIBA Intercontinental cup also next year... WASL champs Manama, CBA's Zhejiang Golden Bulls , BAL's Al - Ahly, BCL Europe champs Telekom Baskets, BCL Americas champs Sesi Franca and NBA G-League Ignite are all part of this year's Intercontinental Cup.. Asians badly needed this competition... Speaking of which, I'll make a point I made dozens of pages ago when I said PBA teams aren't used to the whole home-and-away setup where they have to travel just to play. Getting to Okinawa takes connecting flights from HK or Taipei. Utsunomiya is at least 2 hours from Haneda. At least the Korean teams are within an hour and a half from Gimpo... then we're known to be very hospitable to our guests that will just take the elevator downstairs and walk from Novotel to Araneta while Ginebra/TNT players will be stuck in traffic, some even coming from Antipolo.

This is aside from the fact that the PBA has gotten worse, still won't know how to use 2 imports, and generally don't know how to play FIBA rules.

i hope that the EASL will be successful and have more teams (ehem CBA and NBL)

so technically we have 3 teams in the easl, bgsm, tnt and bad, if the pba will keep their cards right that bgsm-vs foreign team will be a box office draw

No problem if they were blown out... This is the tournament that PBA teams needs... They need some international exposure consistently, So that they will accustomed to high level competitions.. Rather than be stuck at their own backyard

I enjoyed watching the blowouts, though. Shows how inept SMB, are on defense when up against this kind of opposition (see the 142-87 blowout). Plus, it exposed the PBA's one-import policy, making it hard to develop consistent chemistry.

At least TNT played SK well on defense. Too bad their offense needed a shit ton of work.

It all goes back to the PBA insisting that they are an elite basketball league in Asia when they are not. Why the single import? Because of the nature of the three conferences having height restrictions. Why the three conferences? Because we don't have four seasons and can play all year round even if it means Ginebra winning the All-Filipino Cup means more revenue for the PBA than Gilas playing in the World Cup or even the Olympics. Why the height restrictions? Fuck if I know. Ask Yuki Togashi how it feels getting blocked by Kai Sotto in his own league.
