Hudson takes over the spot of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson for the tournament set March 1 to 5 as the latter did not have enough time to secure a Japan visa.

Hollis-Jefferson didn?t arrive in the country until two weeks ago.

?He (Hollis-Jefferson) didn?t have enough time to get a Japan visa,? said TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa.

The Chinese Basketball Association has fined Shanghai Sharks and Jiangsu Dragons each 5 million yuan (US$775,049) and suspended both teams for the remainder of the season over match-fixing, it announced on Monday.

Li Chunjiang, coach of the Shanghai Sharks, received a five-year ban, while his counterpart on the Jiangsu Dragons, Li Nan, will face a three-year ban, the association’s Discipline and Ethics Committee said.

The heavy penalties were imposed after the committee found both teams didn't give their best efforts to win the games held on April 11 and 14 in the CBA playoffs.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident. In sports competitions, reputation is more important than ability,” said Yao Ming, president of CBA, adding that it is necessary to change some things through this event to make the sacrifices they have made meaningful, reported China News Service on Monday.

The punishments also include restrictions of five years on Jiangsu Dragon’s General Manager Shi Linjie and three years on Shanghai Shark’s Jiang Yusheng from engaging in basketball-related activities.

Game 3 of the CBA playoffs first round between the two sides on April 14 ended in a dramatic manner. Leading 100-96 with 1 minute and 36 seconds left, Jiangsu conceded consecutive turnovers in a span of 1 minute, which led to Shanghai's 10-0 surge. Shanghai eventually won 108-104 to advance to the quarterfinals by winning the series 2-1.

Surprised by the dramatic finish of the game, many fans deemed it an outcome that had been fixed, with "match-fixing" trending on China's social media right after the game.

After the punishment, Shenzhen Aviators, which originally would vie for a semifinal spot with Shanghai, will automatically advance to the semifinals.

        • Sir, does Li Nan and Yao Ming are teamates during their golden year era of late 90's up to 2000's?

They are buddies, in fact Li Nan was already retired from national team duties going into the Beijing Olympics but Yao was able to pursue the CBA to include him in the line up,

BGSM definitely. Then most probably TNT, due to being a conference finalist again. About the home and away format, I haven't read any news whether they will finally implement it this October.

As a Euroleague big follower... Hope that Ginebra (PBA's most popular ball club) and even TNT brings crowd even they will go away games... Just like Partizan from Serbia (Serbia's most popular club) and Zalgris from Lithuania(Lithuania's most popular club)... Ginebra might experience being disadvantage in crowd attendance once EASL home and away format re-install next season... In West region, Al Riyadi from Lebanon (Arakji's ballclub) is the most attended ball club in WASL (nothing surprise since Lebanon is a basketball country)....

what’s the average crowd size for WASL games btw? can they match the rabid bgsm fan base? if so BGSM will be in a unfamiliar territory

Lebanese squads are most attended crowds at WASL... next is Orthodox from Jordanian basketball (Freedy Ibrahim's team) squad, Gorgan from Iran (Jamshidi's team) and Al Hilal (KSA's Al Suwailem's team) are quite attended... But other WASL squads are almost empty handed crowds... Not surprise since most of them are football nation... WASL are now in playoff stages....

                          • In East Region, aside from PBA teams, CBA teams and D. Howard's Taiwanese ball club (assuming they will join) are most attended crowds... while Korea and Japan's team are quite attended too... EASL and WASL needs more marketing strategy to make sure their mission and vision will be successful and make it like Euroleague fever games....

                              • I think Ginebra and TNT are the best teams for next year's EASL. And, good that they won the Commissioner's Cup and Governors' Cup respectively, so they should be the choices.

Look, their versatility and effort on defense kinda helps. Plus, they have some systems. TNT will have to tweak theirs, though, as seen in the last EASL.
