All-Filipino Cup champion, All-Filipino Cup runner-up... you heard it from the man himself. It's not the EASL's problem that the PBA doesn't allow more foreign players, have roster spots for Asian quota players, and is too stubborn to change their schedules to allow those EASL games while there's an on-going league (it will suck if the B.League/KBL/PLG are willing to adjust while the PBA won't). SMB and TnT with 2 imports in 2019 going up against CBA/B.League teams was very entertaining, I want to see that again. I'm guessing the PBA won't be able to figure it out and the people at EASL will probably be too annoyed and just ditch them after a season or two.

CEO Matt Beyer (in his mind): Ugh.. Here we go again. League champion and runner-up - that's just it. Why make it so complicated ya boomers?..
But i have to concede though, i have the similar stance as the chairman's about the idea of selecting from a top-4. Considering the current season, mine goes like this:
1. Put up a short Super Cup tournament with imports (this would also be the 3rd conference), about a month after the Gov Cup.
2. Contestants will be the semifinalists from the AFC and Gov Cup, or the next best finishers, through combined eliminations W-L record, if one (possibly up to 4) of the SC teams is a SF'ist on both conferences.
Example:
AFC SF'ists: TNT, SMB, Mags, Meralco
Gov Cup: TNT, BGSM, Mags, SMB
SC berths: TNT, SMB, BGSM, Mags, Meralco, plus 3 more teams with best combined W-L elims records between the 2 conferences
3. Seeding: champions and runners-up in one pot (top seeds), then the SF losers/next-best finishers in the other (bottom seeds). Draw lots.
4. QF: top seeded teams would enjoy twice-to-beat, win-once-to-advance advantage.
5. SF and Final: best-of-three series. Finalists will be awarded the EASL slots.
May pagka-complicated na hindi ang naiisip ko na format, but at least it solves the conundrum on which teams to represent the said regional tournament. With PBA not too keen on transitioning to a single-tournament per season format and the conference champions and runners-up would not pass up on the opportunity to win some of the EASL money, i think this is the best compromise.

This is an opportunity for the PBA's clubs to play against foreign clubs, test their mettle, not to mention expand their market range. Why the hell does there have to be a select team? It's a club competition, not an All-Star contest.

If only the PBA were willing to adjust their rules and their format, maybe the reputation won't have to be an issue.
