One thing also i ask? Is naturalized player counted as local? Or import?
Their plan is to eventually expand to 4 teams from the PBA, CBA, KBL, and B.League by 2023. And the name's East Asia Basketball League, so Middle East's out of the question, but the SEA teams have a chance of going in.

Naturalized players are counted as locals when the mother league counts them as locals.

True. It's going to gauge how good our teams are compared to those of our East Asian neighbors, while it fills the coffers of the teams. It's really better for business, being successful internationally.

just imagine the ratings/viewership between a CBA team and a PBA team (BGSM or PHX ideally), that's a good storyline esp with the political tension between China and RP,

Exactly. It's gonna be like an El Clásico of sorts. Political tension, diehards, and some scuffles.

It just says that "Coach Austria was vocal in his support for EASL and recognized the importance of a top international club competition and the benefits it has for the domestic leagues involved."

            Hopefully, this signals legit support.

            • So this league will have 1 Asian Import and 2 Non Asian Import.

Ginebra and Talk n Text. I expect them to be competitive.

Maybe a title contender. But they need the right imports

              • Ginebra, TnT endorsed as PBA representatives to East Asia league
                by GERRY RAMOS

WHY not the two best teams in the PBA bubble as the league’s official representative to the inaugural season of the East Asia Super League (EASL)?

Reigning Philippine Cup champion Barangay Ginebra and runner-up TnT Tropang Giga are the perfect embodiment of Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league that both franchises are deserving of the two slots reserved for the Philippines during the kick-off meet set this October.

EASL Business Development Head Dioceldo Sy, also the Blackwater team owner, is looking forward to endorse the participation of both the Kings and Tropang Giga before the PBA Board.

“I will do the recommendation in behalf of the EASL,” Sy curtly said on Tuesday.

Champion and runner-up teams in any of the three PBA conferences are primarily the ones to be invited for the regional league’s first ever season.

With the league holding just the All-Filipino conference this year, Sy said both the Kings and Tropang Giga are deserving of the two slots for the PBA.

The PBA Board has initially tackled the league’s planned participation following the presentation made by EASL CEO Matt Beyer during its final meeting for the year last Dec. 3.

No final decision has been made, but commissioner Willie Marcial said the Board could hold another meeting early in 2021 to discuss the matter. The schedule of the tournament and games to be played are among the factors being considered by the Board.

Other than the PBA, two top teams from South Korea, Japan, and China will see action in the home-and-away FIBA-sanctioned tournament that offers $1 million to the champion.

The format will have the eight teams being grouped into two. The top two teams in each group by the end of the eliminations will advance to the Final Four.

Runner-up team will receive $500,000, while third placer is guaranteed $250,000.

Participating teams will also receive a $20,000 appearance fee per game and another $20,000 bonus for each win.

TnT already had its taste of action in the EASL when it saw action in the 2019 edition along with San Miguel Beer and Blackwater.

The Beermen, who were a big hit in the tournament along with the Tropang Giga and the Elite, reached the semifinals, losing to eventual champion Liaoning Flying Leopards featuring former NBA player Lance Stepheson.

The PBA should send them. They're the finalists for this season, after all. SMC could spread Ginebra's popularity in overseas markets. Advertise their products as well. Same opportunity for the PBA. Home games would be a hit for the PBA. Hope the PBA adjusts its schedule with the EASL, and I hope they participate.

The challenge for the teams that are in, however, is retaining their spot in the EASL while playing in the PBA. Preparing for two different league competitions is a big challenge. If they don't win the EASL, they'll have to win in their domestic leagues. Get a top 2 at least.

Ginebra and TNT have to win in the PBA for the EASL slot, and in the EASL for an expansion of their market (because the crowd wants winners).

We known how hard to get players to play outside the PBA like for Gilas. How will this effect the schedule of PBA. Another one year or more PBA season. Players backing out due to no rest and real off season.

Well, so far, it's only 6 home-and-away games from October to January for the group stage. Sort of like FIBA windows, but a little less spaced. Looks like it won't affect it that much, except for the teams competing in the EASL games.

And they'll have a break during the FIBA Asia Cup. Hopefully a long one to prepare the players.

I think so. As far as I remember, 2 groups of 4 teams, then double round-robin for 6 games.

that's nice, at least it is not just a week tournament. plus is it will grow interests among basketball fans.

So, here's the proposed schedule. Looks like it may not eat that much into the PBA schedule, if the PBA schedules the season right. The season really should be more than a year long. Plus, the import conferences should be concurrent with the EASL season.
