He is good at preparing for each game. But he has problems adjusting when his game plan fails. In fairness to him he is distributing the minutes now. But it is because his first 5 are not as effective anymore and he has two mythical 5 level players who come off the bench in CS and Romeo.

My main beef is just because he has championships is some people bring him up as a Gilas coach. What exactly did he distinguish himself in? Yeng at least was the promoter of centers shooting outside in the PBA and is known for developing unknowns. Aside from championships what has Leo done?
Ok, if this is as Gilas head coach, I have no comment. Not a fan of his, absolutely not a fan of the idea of him as Gilas head coach.

He is an Asian level talent. We need to see him in more games against World level teams. He might be able to score on them but might be a net negative because he will be abused because of his size.

      • Leo Austria is a decent coach but not a great coach, I dont know why some SMB fans are licking his balls saying he is a great coach. The fact is the dominance that SMB is enjoying right now in the league is all because they lucked out on a generational talent in June Mar Fajardo. For those who are saying that Austria won at the ABL and PBL why wont you guys look at how dismal his record at Adamson was as well lol.

        • What makes a coach, great? Opinions differs from one perspective to the other. Multiple championship? Ability to win even without the best players? Ability to develop players?

Can you point out the ones saying he's a great coach? Because what I see are people arguing he is a decent/good coach, never saw someone argue he is great.

That Adamson squad was worse before he took over. Lol coaching is not possessing a magic wand that you can suddenly make a poor team overachieve. You gotta consider the talent of the roster relative to the opposition. Even Popovich loses with a mediocre team.

Those Adamson teams were pretty stacked though. Unfortunately they were a donut team going up against teams with good Centers

I say he should be every young players role model. And I think, hopefully I'm right, dave ildefonso is taking the same path.
                  LOL. Whut?

I love Terrence — I think he’s a tremendous player. But you take the ball out of his hands and he has a hard time being effective on the floor. Put the ball in his hands, he can do amazing things either from his hands to the rim or from his hands to the shooter. But Terrence would have very few, what we call, hockey assists; reading one step beyond what happens when the ball leaves his hands. This is where, I think, great basketball and great basketball players live.

The orientation of how our players play is really 3x3 And1 iso. That's why when people talk about adopting a Euro or Argentina system, what they don't realise it's not a matter of using a system (e. g DDO) in a teams preperation, but it's actually playing orientation. You learn this in your youth not in preperation for the World Cup. Argentinas style has a lot of their soccer flare influence as an example. I won't talk about the rugby pace and lane running influence on NZ style as I know I'll be accused of you know what. But the point is what influences our orientation of how we play and it is clear the Philippines is pa dribble dribble (and1 professor stuff

                        • If you watch intently the game, this is an example (2nd q) where it is evident that Kots Leo is not or cannot adjust in a game. Smb is struggling with the 2-3, 3-2, match up zone. Since last night pa. The same defense employed by Guangsa.

What is the offensive scheme of smb, beat to the dribble. Obviously it won't work.

Smb system is also built to be good in PBA, not necessarily built to be a good team. Period.
