  • I think Chot wanted to see more of Kai. But it didnt go well defensively. I dont think D will be a problem with our actual starting 5. Probly: Scti, JC, Dwight, Edu, Jap.

The problem I think is in the 4th when JC’s minutes add up. Like it or not CJ is our only other slasher. Give him screen and roll plays.

I think CJ has a similar problem with Wright in Fiba, length. Both dont have extraordinary wingspan for their height. Unless you have Dame’s release and range you will have a problem against length. Even Dame has problems in Fiba. So they can be more effective with a screen, not on kickouts with a defender running at them.

Even Pogoy didnt shoot well until this game. I dont think kickouts will give enough spacing for our shooters.

Fast forward couple of years, "KAI SOTTO" definitely will be ringing ears among Mexican fans of Mexico's Top Pro league.

Which other PH Pro Baller can have a shot or interest playing in Mexico? (marketability and skills -wise)
      "Dwight Ramos" for sure...

Maybe the lack of defense, but the shooting? The difference couldn't be any more stark.
sad thing is he was actually a good defender a few years ago. now he thinks he's a scorer/playmaker that doesn't need to concentrate on defense, but still can't even shoot consistently

        • If this team had Tab's defense then it might have a chance against Italy and DR. Too bad they have Choke zero defense instead. Would be nice to hear the loud boos live. Hope the crowd wont be a letdown.

          • The best big combo for defense and offense would be Kai and Aj but we all know that choke wont allow younger players to have major roles. Bigs also aren't really expected a lot in choke's scheme of things. This gilas would go places if we had a better coach. A frontline of Aj, Kai and Balti as sf would be too disruptive on defense. This gilas team's waterloo would be on the SF position. Chot doesnt know how to use height and will panic eventually that he will resort to his vaunted small ball until oblivion.lol

                • JC’s already getting tired from the tuneups. I think him playing PG is just too heavy a load. It seems Scti is not yet up to the task. Too bad we had a PG who did decently last WC but was not considered.

I think using JB backfired for us. JB had an ingrained connection with Scti and Jamie. Now we are asking JC to create for us and play 30 minutes. Thats too much. If we had CJ more playmaking reps in the windows he might be more reliable now.

The qualifiers shld have been about training up guys who had potential in the WC like CJ as playmaker or Jamie as SF. But no. The qualifiers had no rhyme or reason. We played with Brownlee a lot, who made things easy for everyone, particularly Scti and Jamie, as well as playing 5 or 4. Then we had to learn how to play again without JB in Europe. Then now playing with JC. No wonder are only consistency now is, asa kay JC.

you are already making an excuse, in this game and the other game Kai played more minutes than Junemar but Junemar outperformed him

He is riding the Anti-Choke Bandwagon just to hide the disappointment of his boy toy who he claimed to be better than Wiseman, Chet and Wemby.

Blaming the minutes and the coach, their fallback excuse if all else fails. LOL.

as always, let's say the coach might not have a set for him on offense but how about on the defensive side in which he can really help, i don't care if Kai do not score much as long as he can secure the ball , block some shots and make things hard for the other team to score in the paint

This cycle, there's the Gilas team which had guys like Dwight, Isaac Go, and Baltazar (Juan GDL and Kobe were even part of that group) started from playing SEA-level opponents that had players like Jakrawan and Lester Prosper to being reinforced with Kai, Kouame, Navarro, RJ, and SJ (among others, they also had Tamayo who was massive for them) and gaining experience at the FIBA OQT's vs a Team B Serbia and a strong DR (without K.A.T.)... only to start from scratch with just Dwight and whoever was available depending on the window. We saw a lot of Kiefer, Malonzo, Parks, and Scottie plus pleasant surprises in Abando, Edu, and even Quiambao for a while.

In a perfect world, Tab would still be the coach and he'd have in the pool what was left of the 2019 team like JMF, Japeth, Almazan, Bolick, CJ, Paul Lee, maybe even Troy Rosario because he was part of Tab's previous Gilas team. Getting Brownlee as a naturalized player was a bonus because Chot didn't know what to do with Tab's 6 of 23 plus the impressive ones under him like Navarro, Baltazar, and both RJ and SJ. By the time Chot took over, the SEA-level has gotten higher (no pun intended), and only Dwight will make it to the final roster. I'm not even sure that Kai will make it.

                          • Just like in 2014, the only way we can defend top level teams is to make them jump shooting squad. Hope our scramble for close out will be enough for them to miss some shot. That what happen to Croatia and Argentina games

Yup,Tab would probably would just tap 3 players from the PBA with the addition of JC,he will have a very strong versatile team. The 3 players would have been JF,Bolick and CJ at 2,with Bolick replacing one of the undersize PG.With Kai,Edu,JF,Balti and Tamayo at 3,4,5 it's a very tall team and I wouldn't mind a more improved Navarro as a role player at 3.

We gave up too many threes pala. TBH, Mexico is really the mirror of Gilas. The difference is that Mexico was successful in connecting their long-range while Gilas was not.
