That’s why I want oftana in the line up… w/ JC will be primary ball handler, Newsome and Pogoy’s job is useless… Oftana will give length atleast at wing position that gilas needs… even kiefer’s role there will be reduce since JC can handle it… Thou Pogoy and newsome did OK in China pocket tourney, they both will be bullied by WC comes plus Oftana is a long term project for Gilas… all those I mentioned will not make difference then much better pick a guy that can be use long term…

As I said the SF skill level for Chots system is high. His SF is basically a taller guard. Only Dwight, glass Parks and JC have that skill. CJ and Newsome are too short. Newsome doesnt shoot from outside also. Jamie Malonzo is tall and athletic but his skills are not guard level. Chot has been playing at SF at times. But it doesnt look good. Unfortunately Oftana doesnt also meet the cut. But yes, there should be a last choice SF. If Kiefer gets the 11th spot. Oftana, Abando and Pogoy will battle for the 12th. Oftana has the height but Chot might love Pogoy more? Abando is is between and can shoot but laterals are not that good and dribbling is worse than the two.

Ok I'll update this for my take. I'll put in CJ and some Scottie. Note that it seems SG and SF are almost interchangeable for Chots system. It is only the defensive matchup that changes.

Nope , not that he's not good, but it's normal to just use a 9 man rotation, and JC is the lead guard ( a role CJ was playing in China), CJ requires touches and PT to be effective. ( He's not a 5 min guy),

Abando can also be a 5 min sparkplug , ( 2 or 3 quick shots in 3 mins runs )

while Kiefer can just be a no error type of 5 min guy,

while Newsome can just play 5 min good defense .

It's all about roles , and JC is our dominant lead guard , that needs the ball and PT. And shots

I think CJ has a chance to start as combo guard to JC's PG. It depends on when and if Scottie can play. Newsome can be a defensive alternative to start. But it might depend on who between Japs and Kai starts. Jap has been doing a good job establishing our defense at the start. In that case CJ should start for more offense. If Kai starts maybe Newsome starts. I dont think there is a chance Kiefer starts. I think he will play minimal minutes.

I agree as well. All I can say is that keep the lead of Italy within the respectable margin 10-25 points will do.

With Angola and DR kasi, I believe that, in terms of size, player profile and playing style, Gilas is a match against DR (except KAT) and Angola (definitely).

Because they are not stacked with NBA players.

Spain is one of those teams that don’t need many nba players… their local league (ACB) is one of the tough leagues in the world… Aldama, Hernangomez bros, Garuba who I think is one of the toughest big man rotation in the tournament… while ever reliable veterans Sergio Lull and Rudy Fernandez will be the veteran leadership with the team… I don’t think they will be out easily… they are I think better than Canada, Germany, Slovenia and they always have France numbers every time they meet…

For me, DR might be the strongest team in group A…you have to remember they are the ones who beat Argentina, the reason why they are out of the tournament… plus having Quinones and KAT in the roster, they can even beat Italy… actually, gilas have little chance to beat DR than Italy… this version of Italy line is their weakest since 2015 eurobasket… no Gallo, no NP and several key players missing too… KAT will be the best big man in the tournament since no Jokic here…

Speaking of Spain, we haven't heard of their preparation & tune-up games for the 2023 World Cup. The same could be said about Australia.

I see France & Australia as the teams that will grapple for the gold medal.

Their only tune up game was against Venezuela few days ago and they beat them convincingly (87-57)… today they have a tune up game vs Slovenia and Sunday against team USA, and next week they will face Canada and Dominican Republic… let’s see how will Spain again define the odds and tell to everybody that they are the defending champions and no.1 ranked team in FIBA….
