After Malonzo's struggle in the 4th & 5th window of the qualifiers, he finally got the feel of the FIBA game in the 6th window & continue to play well for Gilas in the team's tune-up games which include those tune ups in Estonia & Lithuania. Its really about getting the reps which is the key.

I just wish that Gilas have played more games against team A's of other national teams, even those that are not World Cup-bound. Europe, Africa and Latin Americas have many of those teams.

Italy still have respected European talents like Polonara and Melli. I do see how they could be a better matchup than DR. I feel like DR is all in how KAT shows up.

I actually love KAT, when I followed the Wolves, and hate fans who hate on him as a player and even person, but from the time I followed the Wolves, he can play at that lackadaisical way that can not be good in FIBA easpeiclaky the WC. If he shows up with weak defense efforts or tries to play like he can play 50% it can lead to a close game against DR.

Well, Rudy gobert too… he’s been disappointing lately in nba but we all know how he is dominating in fiba setting… I think FIBA setting is too easy for KAT, especially w/o 3 sec defensive violation, he can just stand inside and protect the lane w/o going outside the comfort zone in most of defensive plays… and he is very good 3 pt shooting big man that is more important in fiba setting, big man of other teams have to defend him even in the outside… he will be “perfect transformation version of andray blatche “ in DR jersey

Or they should pick US training if that European training is a failure… atleast coach Tim cone has connections in the US basketball community and might playing some US NCAA div.1 schools… just like 1998 centennial team when they played multiple US NCAA division 1 schools..

I’m not denying he is good. But against Senegal he was outsized a few times. And he will be probably against Angola and DR. The gulf between Malonzo and Edu is big in terms of scoring ability that it hurts to look at times. If we want scoring we will play Malonzo, but we might be ovewhelmed inside. But with Edu we cant score much.

My problem with KAT is that he is a big man that wont commit to scoring in the paint. He has skills alright but with his weight he is not as mobile Andray Blatche going to the paint. Blatche in Fiba used the 3 to setup his drives. KAT is not skilled, agile enough to do this. Usually he just camps outside. If he really wants a better driving game, he should lose some weight. If he wants to maintain his weight now he should make more paint attempts like Jokic. He avoids contact but he doesnt want to lose weight.

I believe that we can match up better with Angolans and the Dominicans. In terms of athleticism, Gilas has plenty of them. Size-wise, we are not too undersized against these two unlike Senegal who are obviously damn tall and athletic.

It is clear that kai is willing to play after physical theraphy sessions. Sotto and baltazar, like clarkson, can be inserted even within a mere two weeks of adjustment. Though cj perez, parks and newsome can be more than decent small forwards in a pinch, baltazar, kai and aj can handle better forward positions with their size and skills. 6'6 malonzo at pf is decent, but too underpowered and undersized, and definitely not enough for bigtime fiba beyond-asian opponents. (Kai and oftana are also good fiba-grade shooting forwards.) They were all experienced national team players, with kai being the earliest continuously serving gilas player ever.

As for that wild animal coachot, he must be forced to shut the f*ck up. Mvp money talks: because it is real. Insulting kai for not being an nba player, coming from a talkative "puso-d screaming", arrogant idiot who was never even considered for the lowest nba job, is just too much. His equally incompetent relative also somehow worked in mysterious ways as the gilas youth coach. They are nt coaches because of mvp's money, and that is all.

No one anyway has ever accused coachot of being a great fiba national team coach.

He is just a lowly pba coach who just prayed to have the best available pba players, because he was never the best coach. He is nothing more than a smalltime favorite egret perched on top of mvp's carabao money.

The only material point is that clarkson, kai, abando and balti are the best "short-notice, instant-impact" players the nt can get to fight through world-class fiba national teams.

The sbp should be humble enough to make the right corrective things happen, despite what the arrogant pr*ck coach stupidly thinks is HIS team. A dumbf*ck coach who still does not know, or has common sense enough on, how to drastically reduce those disastrous careless turnovers and dangerously long non-shooting mentality lapses.

The ablest team is very likely with: center-pfs in edu, fajardo, sotto, baltazar and aguilar; combo-sfbg in malonzo, ramos, oftana, and; combo-sgpg clarkson, abando, thompson and cj. This proven two-way, rotation non-tiring, big-enough team should be tough enough to grind down italy, with really SMART, REPEAT SMART, COOL-HEADED COACHING.

As preparation, Team USA scrimmaged against USA Select Team. Included in the Select Team are Duren, Grimes, Mika, Galloway, Pritchard and Jenkins. In other words, role players. The Select Team won both of their 2 scrimmages.
