Hell if RDO plays professionally and has played in several fiba tournaments including a world cup, Giannis called him dirty while the American fan has NBA attached to his name. The reality is, international basketball is actually quite dirty compared to the NBA. Some national teams are more "magulang" than PBA players. The Australian players and the New Zealand players are voted the "dirtiest players" in the NBA. Even the US dream team complained about the Australians being "dirty players" and their coach said "that's international basketball".

The difference between international basketball and Pinoy basketball is we are honest about our gulang, while international teams like to gulang and complain they fall trap to other team's gulang. Most of us are just shocked how dirty international basketball is, especially in FIBA because we have the expectation and the FANTASY that it is clean play over there.

I feel that the non-American players (NBA or not) are complaining on how "dirty" Filipino cagers are is because they don't expect a "third world" southeast Asian country to match their gulang. It's case of pot meets the kettle.

Also, I strongly believe that the stereotype of effeminate and desexualized Asian men play a huge part on this. But meh, Filipinos have more macho attitude to the point that we celebrate male circumcision at age 8-10. Lol. Gilas 7.0 needs to be smart here. They need to learn how to play by FIBA rules and at the same time, get used to gulang. Gulang happens in international basketball ...a lot and with more intensity.

Correction on my part it was against Kuwait. But dude you also seem to miss the point and didn't get the gist of what I meant. This was criticism to philippine basketball and the way it is played here in general. Observations for the past couple of decades on the way our philippine teams and players play especially on defense is pretty lacking. What's the overall/average percentage of our opponent's points given per game in FIBA competition ? Pretty sure it's bad. Coaches and analysts have already been voicing out how difficult it is for PBA players to adjust in playing good honest clean defense internationally. And the problem really goes back to how these players were taught the fundamentals at an early age.

Now going back to that Gilas Kuwait game, regardless of who instigated first, it still isn't a good example to show to young aspiring basketball players. Sure both RDO and the kuwaiti player were wrong with their actions, but it is pathetic when forumers here are actually wanting Kai to emulate his ninong Ranidel on how to react when things get dirty. I'd rather have Kai let his game do the talking and let the officials do their jobs. "Ang pikon talo!" LOL!

Missed the point entirely. What I'm saying is we need to re evaluate how we teach Basketball fundamentals here in the philippines especially in one on one and team defense. It is pretty obvious almost in all iterations of Gilas we play poor defense, too many turnovers, too many points given up...how many times have we seen our PBA pros play bad pick and roll defense in international competitions?? When I say clean honest defense, I mean straight up D, using your feet moreso than your hands, knowing how and when to deny and seal off the passing lanes, proper boxing out, etc. So just because other countries resort to dirty tactics, we have to either retaliate violently like some people here want us to do just to prove a point? No wonder other countries like to play us rough and dirty because they know pinoy cagers lose their cool too easily and that can disrupt the team's flow. A well disciplined team with a very competent and knowledgeable coach overcomes any pettiness and mind games that an opposing team throws at them. Sadly a few versions of our Gilas team in the last few years lacked both discipline and competent coaches (Yeng).

So NO I ain't living in no fantasy world. LOL!

You are correct there, the lack of fundamentals, easy to lose cool etc. But why are some people missing your point? You didn't use the right examples. You could've straight on cited the Gilas vs boomers and maybe pinpoint RR Pogoy who had "lost cool written allover his face that kickert genuinely thought he hurt Goulding who actually flopped. But you cited RDO instead and even said Kai should stay away from his ninong (something to that effect). Do you realize that we're long been looking for someone to replace ranidel in or gilas program? Hopefully someone who plays exactly the same but taller. Have you forgotten how his 6'5 frame held up against some of the best bugs in the world back in 2014? I'm not saying he was fantastic but imagine if kai becomes a 7'2 RDO? And did RDO get whistle for a technical or flagrant foul even once in the world cup? I don't remember that happening. I think Jason Castro was called for an intentional foul once and LA Tenorio for an unsportsmanlike foul when he hit a greek player in the balls.

Sure we definitely need to start training our young 6'6" and up players to become all around players with guard skills, and hone those players who fit the bill to be stretch 4s. Absolutely we want them to become mentally tough players who don't easily get intimidated by rough plays. We want strong national team players who would rather have their offensive talents and defensive skills do the talking, rather than retaliating with more low blows and unnecessary second motions which can just end up with ejections and escalating things even further.

Sure RDO was definitely invaluable to Gilas and I won't take that away from him, but no way was he a saint, haha and those hard fouls he loves to give were intentional and borderline. You don't want young promising players to emulate those bad traits of him.

Well inday, there's no fantasy with what I've been saying all along because it is a reality that Philippine style of basketball needs to be re-evaluated from the grassroots up. Especially on how defense is taught and how we should train tall players.

Well we can blame it on this fricken Corona Virus. If it weren't for the damn thing we would've been dissecting, debating and bitchin' over those cancelled Gilas games with Thailand and Indonesia. Lol!
