    - Only 4 players are over 30 years old.
    - Only 2 players are listed at center position.
    - No players standing above 6'11.

Italy has been like this since 2011 I think - less centers (Italy is using modern centers), play small ball, and run-attack-cut-kickout-shoot threes.
Just playing to their strengths, which is speed and shooting.

Noticed that some guys flew under the radar of basketball enthusiasts—Polonara and Tonut. Aside from the obvious names Fontecchio, Mannion etc., I think these two would pose some serious problems against us.

That said, I hope Malonzo is up to the task in keeping up with Fontecchio. Dude is a really good FIBA player and he actually punched his ticket to the NBA by getting attention playing for the Italian NT. If he can shoot over Malonzo (both are listed 6’ 7” but I can guarantee Malonzo is going to be actually smaller) comfortably, then I don’t see anyone giving him problems at that sf spot.

Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

    • Where the hell is JC? SBP still hasnt settled his insurance? If they have, he should be practicing with the team already. Either this is yet another SBP incompetence or JC isnt really playing for pride.

i think nba players are only cleared to play/train for their respective nteams 30 days prior the tournament, prt of the nba-fiba agreement (for insurance purposes) so me thinks JC will just hog the ball and shoot anywhere like ISO joe for gilas this WC, similar to that lebanon game

          • correction, in theory JC could start practicing with Gilas but the insurance cost will be astronomical since the nba will only cover 28 days of insurance

the current agreement between FIBA and the NBA covers a maximum of 28 days of insurance for players who wish to join their respective national teams

Therefore, if international NBA stars wish to participate in the June qualifiers (June 27 – July 5), then they could only join the preparation of their national teams for the August Qualifiers (August 22 – 30) and the FIBA EuroBasket (September 1-18) a few days before tip-off, otherwise, the insurance can no longer cover them. While it’s still possible for players to join their national teams even without insurance, it certainly increases the risk factor, e.g. in case of an injury.

            • Why are we not exploring the idea enlisting Ron Harper, Jr. instead of Jordan Clarkson?

Me thinks that we need RHJ more than JC. Why we are actually a player that is competent to 3 and 4 spots. We can match taller teams better with Justine Brownlee. Remove JB and replace with JC, we will have problems at the 3/4 spots.

Let's say worst case we lose all games, what is our probable last game schedule then subtract 28 days from there.

last day for the 17-32 classification is Sept 2, so the earliest JC could join is August 4 or 5, WC starts at 25, Gila 1st game is on the 26th so i guess JC will be training with the team less than 3 weeks

I recount what I said to you 4 years ago about Italy. They are an odd team in Europe. That's why that team is a harder task for Gilas.

I wonder how Gilas will fare against UP or LaSalle?

                            Fontecchio is at least 6'8

That's why we need someone like Carl Tamayo in the WC proper. Even if he's not our best defensive forward, i think he could still offer some resistance to an NBA-level talent like Fontecchio, body him up to somehow throw him off his game.

JC can join atleast last week of July, since the start of tournament on August 25, the rule is not covering the tournament itself… only before… some national teams have nba players in their roster will start their training last week of July.. Lithuania and France are those sample teams will begin their preparation camp on that said date…
