            • World Cup test event

The simulation games are set on June 28 to be played simultaneously at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena.

The Blue Eagles-Knights tussle opens the doubleheader at the Big Dome starting at 4 p.m., followed by the encounter between San Beda and newly-crowned FilOil Pre-Season Cup champion University of the Philippines at 8 p.m.

Ateneo is the reigning UAAP men’s basketball champion, while Letran has lorded over the NCAA the past three seasons.

Over at MoA, sister schools La Salle and College of St. Benilde take on each other at 4:45 p.m. before National University and Mapua take on the floor at 8:30 p.m.

The Invitational Games are part of the simulation test being conducted by the LOC as the country co-hosts the World Cup with Japan and Indonesia two months from now.

Tickets are prized at P200 and P100 in both venues, although there are portions of the arena that will be open for free to the public.

                  • Most NTs will only start camp last week of July. Which in a sense they can afford to as systems and programs are in place. While Gilas is essentially trying to establish a system and program in 1 month.

                      Correct.
That is becoz the of 4 to 5-year cycle in which these teams parade practically same players for that cycle, hence chemistry or cohesion is well established. Take the case of the Jordan national team for instance, players like Amin Abuhawwas, Zaid Abbas, Ahmad Al-Dwairi, Dar Tucker, Freddie Ibrahim, Mohammed Hussein, Sami Bzai, have been playing for Jordan in FIBA & other international tournaments for more than 5 years now. Hindi na isyu yung familiarity & cohesion sa team.

The same could not be said about Gilas. The Gilas team/pool in the 2020-2021 period (under coach Tab Baldwin) isn't the same as the 2023 World Cup-bound Gilas team/pool under coach Chot Reyes. May mga holdovers naman yung current team/pool from the pool/team in 2020-2021, but player changes are rampant. U know what I'm implying, no need to elaborate.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

In the country we have a bad tendency to erase everything done by a previous regime regardless if they are actually good. Tabs 2021 team is an example of that. PBA and SBP actually abandoned this team. They hoped by not giving their best players that the team would fail. But when it succeeded they looked for every chance to take over.

After Kouame and Dwight, Balti was the most important player of that team. And yet after one invitation when the guy was on a hiatus prior to going to B league they have not invited him again despite pronouncements from him of wanting to be part of the pool.

I am really curious how the Europe tuneups pan out. But I have a feeling the team still lacks a guy like Balti, can rim protect and switch. Can shoot the mid range, drive or even hit the 3.

These guys can be our main core post-WC 2023 till the 2028 Olympics.

Just surround them with 10-12 reseves and we’re good.

                          Oh, and a better coach.

On cycles, the SBP is doing it wrong because immediately after the World Cup is already FIBA Asia Cup qualifying in November. Korea will be back, Guam at full strength is basically SEA Games-Cambodia, and Mongolia was already at Thailand's level without a naturalized player at that... but it's an entirely different topic in the grand scheme of things.

Will there be a new coach in less than a month after the World Cup? Knowing how incompetent the SBP has been of late, worst case scenario is that Josh Reyes takes over because he has been the most-exposed to FIBA. They don't have a "consultant" like a Mark Dickel, Jong Uichico might be thinking he'll be too old for the job, and Tim Cone has Ginebra to worry about. Jolas might be an option and I won't be mad if he takes over Chot.
