Has nothing to do with predicting accurately , vegas betting odds have probability all figured out and NZ is a mid level as usual in the WC. (Nothing to argue really as NZ as usual are considered dark horses in the WC ( not highly ranked in the world in terms of talent which is different topic)
Projected outlook is based on previous WC , not qualifiers or other FIBA games which is a different scenario and NZ has consistently played beyond its weight with wins over France , Turkey etc. , while a Asian team like Jordan has never won vs Euro or Ocenania teams in the WC (Not qualifiers). While the US if 2019 is an indication and with what looks like an even weaker US version for 2023. . History precedence in the WC provides quite a different outlook on the possibilities
The game thst's anyone's guess is the potential cross over game between NZ vs Montenegro (classification round), which NZ beat in last WC (2019), as usual NZ is actually predicted to have a winning WC record again , with predicted 3 wins vs Jordan, Egypt and MontenegroLast edited by DAdmiral; 06-19-2023, 09:18 PM.

They also added another solid player in Marko Simonovic, who is also playing w/ Bulls... They have solid NP player with Kendrick Perry, who did a good performance last Eurobasket... While Egypt will now have Abder Nader (former Phoenix Suns) as their main guy... They have solid run in Afrobasket, They beat Tunisia and Senegal, who are better rank African teams... So don't underestimate those teams... Having NBA talent is a big plus for the team, w/c NZL doesn't have... Sorry dude, I don't see NZL winning over Montenegro... Actually i think Montenegro might been favorites to get 2nd seed in Group D (Or even top seed beating Lithuania, Multiple reports says Sabonis might skip playing Lithuania this year), Your team might face Mexico, Another Americas team who is always very competitive and always giving G-League Americans beating every qualifiers face off (Although they will play minus JTA)....

I can see in the video na parang ang bigat ng mga paa ni Junmar as he was doing the drills. Even if we say that he's not yet in top physical condition coming from an injury, parang subrang laki ng deperensya nya compared to fellow Gilas bigs like Japeth, AJ Edu, Kouame, Poy Erram in terms of quickness.
Japeth himself is coming from an unjury so he's not yet in top playing condition as well. But he's obviously quicker than Junmar.

What about the younger Michael Philipps isn't he eligible too? He is more explosive than all the bigs I saw right now, more agile than Koame , more faster more emphatic and very hardworking player inside the court. His athleticism is very much needed in our gilas team.
I would like for SBP to process Mike's exemption request. But I don't think it is helpful overall for him to be in the WC pool where he will only be 4th back-up NP after JC, Brownlee and Kouame. As a practice player, he will be a good opponent. But I think he will be too fast for our pool bigs. They might only injure themselves running after him. I think the upcoming tuneups in Estonia will be a better test if our current bigs will be enough against good international competition.

Kouame maybe currently slower but he is still taller, longer, a better post defender and generally more skilled. Mike's lack of offense beyond dunks and putbacks was exposed by the Cambodia team. Ironically the least heralded BGR, turned out to be our most important big for that tourney.

First tune up matches for World Cup preparations:
Finland - 79 vs Latvia - 66
Latvia - 69 vs Estonia - 52
No big name players played in this tune up games such as KP or Markannen due to 28 day rule and i guess this is the place Gilas might play on some tune up matches going to Europe

The PBA says that they'll lend more players to the Gilas pool.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) said that it is ready to lend even more players to the national basketball program amid the persisting manpower problems ahead of the Fiba
At this point, do we really need more PBA players? It seems that almost all the useful PBA players in Japeth, Scottie, Newsome, Perez, Malonzo, Brownlee, and Oftana are in the pool. Marcio's position is too loaded, so he's honestly out. Almazan, Arana, and Troy are the best the PBA could come up with at the bigman position, the one most in need. Sorry, I'd rather take Gagate, Pablo, Balti, and Mason over the PBA bigs, given the PBA bigs' lack of usefulness at the 4 and 5 spots. Bolick and RJ too over any PBA PG not named Scottie.
The help Gilas needs is outside the PBA, whether amateur or overseas, at this point.

Hopefully the estonia trip will expose our bigs and be able t0 consider replacements by july, we dont need 6'10 and 6'9 centers if they cnat keep in step.. if theres a tall wing who can somehow finish the rim (BGR and Phillips) go on it.. the tough guy big will come later or just do it by committee..To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.
