This is correct, and its now time for the NBA to wean themselves out of FIBA a little bit,no need to send a team that would just embarass the other teams to losing in international ball by 30+ points. This past season lots of players in their roster barely played half of the season,USA should revert back to to the spirit of semi amateurism in international ball, send at least 4 standout college players and more Gleague dominant players with a few young NBA players to support.

That's why i said that if not for FIBA's push to not include PRO athletes for basketball in Olympics, The NBA still an American thing and not be as popular as they were now... Look at NFL, They are the most popular league in America but no one cares outside USA... Because American football as a sport is not a big thing in the rest of the world... Jordan will be not popular outside USA because they will not recognized globally... He will be like Tom Brady, He's very popular in the US but globally, He's not even in top 20 most popular athletes... You will be recognized globally if you participate in most of international competitions... OK, Zion, Young and Morant were been recognized lately but not because of their achievements, They were popular now due to their respective controversies surrounding them.... Even the late David Stern thank former FIBA secretary Boris Stankovic for NBA's global popularity due to 1992 Dream team... At first, USA federation disagreed to allow PROS to play for international competitions, But later they saw how big they will be if they will push their market outside USA... So the rest is history for NBA, FIBA and the sport of basketball as the whole.. NBA still needs FIBA if they want the sport of basketball become the no.1 sport in the world (Even i know it will be not happened, soccer still the king) or being contentious 2nd most popular sport on earth today...

Yeah... In the end of the day, Players will have their final decision if they want to participate or not... Playing for national teams are always privileges, Not obligatory... If guys like Giannis, Luka or Jokic says NO then their national teams and the followers will accept that... But for sure, many of us want them to participate every national team competitions, But they are human afterall... They deserve rest too... Giannis, Luka, Jokic and other international players always love to represent their nations, They taking pride of it... This is their destiny, They are born for that... That's why i'm more like International players than those American players... They are not good role model for future generation of basketballers, While International guys are actually the "REAL" good model, They have no issues with little off season they have since they will play high competitive competition even in off season, while Americans ballers (majority) doing crazy things that young ballers should not follow, From bringing guns just to be acted like "Hoodie", Cheating their partners, changing teams every year, Always doing Load management, etc...

But the followers of NBA before internationally is small before 1992... They were hardly unknown especially in Football mad countries... The 1992 Dream team opens up the NBA market worldwide... They (NBA) also admit that... There will be no Tony Parker, Yao Ming and Dirk Nowitzki if not for 1992 dream team because they were inspired by 1992 squad... And NBA can't do that what you said that they will break up w/ FIBA because of their goals... They still need FIBA to market their league globally... Example, This year's FIBA WC will be held in 3 countries, I'm sure Philippines and Japan are one of the biggest markets of NBA... But this is the first time NBA involve players will play in Jakarta... Indonesia is the 4th largest populated country on earth, And this will be huge for NBA if they get the market almost 300 million people in Indonesia... Indonesia is a football mad country and only little interest watching NBA.. But because Indonesia is one of the host of FIBA WC, NBA will see this opportunity to come to Indonesia and sell their brands... Another thing, Qatar will host in 2027 FIBA WC, NBA will try also to take the market of rich country of Qatar, especially how successful FIFA WC was last year... It's all about business after all... NBA is not settle just for US market alone... They are aiming worldwide, And FIBA is one of their biggest partners for that...
Maybe the NBA will put your theory to the test and just opt out of FIBA and Olympics,I'm guessing that an NBA exhibition game overseas will see more fans in the seat, than a FIBA game with no NBA players, just a bunch of superstars of their own countries, which other countries don't follow,so why show up on a game of nobodies. At the end of the day the NBA will not lose any international fans, specially the countries with their own NBA players, and others were already a fan since the ABA vs NBA days of Dr J.Their goal right now is to have full healthy roster right after the WC,to get some tv ratings and stadium sold outs to fans, with the first game at Oct 24,2023 thats just a few weeks after WC.Bottom line is the NBA can ignore FIBA,and it will not stop top caliber international players to coming to the NBA,while FIBA will be back to begging the NBA to send a powerful team for those lopsided wins, that irritate the American fans alot.Only in American a winning HS coach gets suspended after winning 161-2,there's gotta be a mercy rule even in international ball,if FIBA wants a fully loaded USA team.

Really unpopular take, with the roster of team USA (2nd tier) and if they don't prepare well, I think NZ in 1st surprise game has a chance to keep the game close. NZ which was one of the top offensive teams in the 2019 WC will improve it's defense (one of the worst in 2019) with the addition of better defenders - Izayah, Te- Rangi , Cameron in the perimeter and the defensive upgrade at center from Loe and Pledger (both slow) to Waandernberg and Wetzell. Yup I know people will think I'm crazy with take. by the way to be clear i'm not saying NZ will win but just keep it closer than expected ( single digits )
