If your only basis of Angola was 2019 against Yeng Guiao's quality Gilas team, that was an entire cycle ago. Hate to say it, but they're gonna move the ball better while Chot will rinse and repeat the SEA Games in the World Cup with better players.
I think Nigeria didn't play full force in the qualifiers as most of their key players were playing in Europe or elsewhere. Angola on the other, hand I think a good No. of its key players are playing in their domestic league hence they were availabe during the qualifiers. I think if Nigeria play full force it is easily the strongest team in Africa. I watched that exhibition game where Nigeria beat team USA.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

This is kind of insane , really.
its like it's a bad idea if it's coming from Tab, but a good idea when its coming from Vargas, brilliant.
Panlilio and Vargas don't like Tab for some reason. I'm beginning to have doubts on PLDT's future if a guy like Panlilio is its head. Competency >>>> Palakasan

Angola isn't that tall compared to other African teams. Last WC they only had a 1inch height advantage on Gilas (Gilas had a team ave. height of 6'4 while Angola had an ave. height of 6'5), same with DR too, both Gilas and DR were about the same ave. height last WC at 6'4. With Kai being in the lineup expect Gilas to go toe-toe IN HEIGHT against almost all teams in the WC. imo

          • lol we will see who will go to estonia with Junmar still out and in recovery mode I expect Aj Edu to have some burn..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
            1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Well we do need tiradors este enforcers when we get we're losing big. That's the only reason I feel Pogoy and Erram gets included

Nigeria played w/ their fringe players during their WC qualifications... They can't bring their best squad due to politics inside their federation (sounds familiar)... But remember they also lose twice to Ivory Coast (who are just weaker than them in terms of rankings)... And last 2019, they barely beat unprepared PHL, lousy head coach, overweight Blatche, No game plan and lousy line up.. They needed OT to beat PHL.. That's why odds are favor PHL this time vs Angola... Having a home court advantage, better players, much prepared team than 2019 (and might have referees favor calls too)... Their upgrade is only Bruno Fernando, but that's it... PHL have more upgrade roster than they have than 2019 in all positions... So no excuses if they lose to Angola... They have to win vs Angola just to have chance for Olympic berth

Angola barely beat Gilas last 2019... I know it was 4 years ago, But still ample sample size why PHL are favored to win over Angola... While Angola upgrade due to Bruno Fernando, PHL meanwhile upgrade all positions from Guard to bigs plus homecourt and referee advantage... If you have doubts then watch Angola's game and check if they are good to beat PHL again this time...

                  • Brilliant, witb center Junmar , Kouame and Japarth out with injuries , AJ went against a make belief broom stick at center , well I guess when only 9 players show up, it's what you have to do to simulate 5 x 5 . Galing. Meanwhile a motor buny like Phillips is sitting at home.

AJ is better of returning to Brisbane and practice with his agent Cam, i mean it's better use of his time.
Injuries and players on break hampered the supposed first day of Gilas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Fourteen of players arrived at the Meralco Compound on Wednesday evening, namely Roger Pogoy, Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Poy Erram, Carl Tamayo, CJ Perez, Rhenz Abando, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., AJ Edu, Chris Newsome, Angelo […]

if any of those two get in over the others in the pool, i wont bother watching

On the positive side, putting AK34 on the pool is a good sign already, still hoping that SBP may woke up on the right side of the bed and lobby for the dude’s exemption before the actual competition started. It would be interesting how Calvin Oftana and Rhenz Abando will respond and adjust for the forthcoming overseas training, How’s AJ Edu’s overall health condition moving forward. Still hoping that the likes of BGR, Michael P. and Sedrick may be included in the training pool not only to provide warm bodies but also in preparation for Hangzhou AG wherein they are eligible to play as per OCA.

Tagging either JC or JB on the last minute as a local is just a fantasy, a make belief.
Balti and Matthew Wright should be in the pool…

Yes Sir, Balti should be included but we had no idea why he isn't and as for Mat, well the dude is inconsistent both offensively and defensively and we cannot afford another weakest link moving forward.

heck they should have included in the pool the nuclear option= calvin abueva, instead of these two (pogoy and erram)

                              • honestly dont know the answer on this one. i understand the highest placed Asian team will get an outright Olympic berth after the WC. and separately there is an Olympic qualifier(to be playeed August 12-20). does that mean all the rest of the Asian teams in WC (non top placing) has no chance to fight for an Olympic spot?

why I asked this is, if we do need to go through a qualifier, and rumors are SBP will hand over management to a new org this year, will the NEW SBP have time to build a new team? if we reuse the same team going to WC with minor tweaks, are majority of those players available? of course, if we dont qualify to fight for a spot, this question is moot.
