  • Matthew Wright being part of the propose pool and IBNers including me are very much critical about him most of the time. Playing in the B. League certainly injected some sort of a fresh start for the dude, can he now translate that new vigor to the Gilas camp? Let’s see

if only Matthew Wright, Jordan Heading and Marcio Lassiter were 6'6-6'7, SBP would not have any inclination whatsoever to consider the likes of Thirdy, Pogoy and Paul Lee as wings in past tournaments.

They were touted as the next batch of Gilas sharpshooters but they will never reach the heights Dondon Hontiveros did. Now the bigger what-if is if Dondon was 6'6-6'7 as well with that kind of skillset and finesse.

      • He may be one of those undrafted guy in the NBA playing with a system like coach Spo’s current Miami Heat and cut in the mold of a Caleb Martin or a Madmax Strus. A two-way guy who can provide decent numbers from the 3-Pt. line and wing stopper. The thing here is when his hot his in the zone but when his cold his a lemon.

          • Warriors Quinones will play for DR this upcoming WC, that's another 6'6-6'7 wing Gilas headache..

            • Thankfully, AJ Edu is already in the country and is ready to join the pool. Praying that he remains healthy and makes the most of the opportunity.

              • Q. Henson states that the 20 man pool for WC 2023 only contain PBA and overseas standouts. So no Kouame and Philips then and thus no efforts for their FIBA exception.

Mike and Mason are better FIBA fits than most of their PBA counterparts. Ange would have been good, even in practice. It would only make sense if the priority is in the other positions.

                  • For now I will reserve my comment while waiting for the official release of the pool.

Chot is saying they are assuming no Kai. So we are going to trot out a gimpy brittle center corps in Edu, Jap and JMF? Ange should be there. Still a good defender in limited minutes. Last time Edu played with Gilas he had his first major injury. Even in college he plays limited minutes. Are we expecting him to play major minutes of high intensity bball on consecutive days?

                      • They're just calling out Kai's group to prioritize Gilas training over NBA using sports media nothing new Lol

Nothing new here. Chot has always been an a-hole

That's why it's very baffling that SBP wouldn't prioritize Mike and Ange for exemption. We need their skillsets. Not just for the future, we need them NOW, especially that rim protecting bigs aren't common here.

Well, sir DAdmiral says that there are still dialogues on Ange. But Mike not getting publicity and push for exemption? Jesus Christ.

To be fair, Rim protecting bigs aren’t common in Asia outside NPs and Oceania teams. Only China has been able to consistently produce rim protectors for the past two decades.

Haddadi is pretty much done post-WC 2023.

Kai is just starting his career.

Al-Dwairi is nearing his 30s and there’s no replacement.

Japan hasn’t had a Rim protector since Aono back in 2007.

Korea’s Ha Seung-Jin was their best pure center but he retired long back.

Lebanon hasn’t had a real non-NP center like ever.

These type of players are simply one of a kind and difficult to come by.

                              • The SBP people are smart enough, the only explanation really is decisions are not driven by what's best for basketball and even WC representation, but by commercial commitment to please stakeholders who have invested a lot.
