if KAT doesn't play, and JB32 somehow becomes a local, we have 3 of the top 15 players in the group (JC, JB, Kai). We'll have the most depth if Rhenz and Carl makes the lineup.
Manifesting: Philippines top 5 in the FIBA World Rankings

    • Perhaps we don't have an accurate view of how good these Italian and DR none NBA players are. We can't assume things , it isn't a given that Kai and Brownlee can produce those same numbers in Euro or the Puerto Rican league ..

      • there is no assurance Kai would make the Italy or DR roster if he was eligible to play for them..

Almost certain that Italy would've developed Kai better than us if he was born there.

I'm pretty sure KAT is pretty much committed to play for DR

no assurance also that Italian or DR players would make the Gilas lineup if they were born the Philippines.

safe to say that it's our game to lose vs. Angola. Our low quality Gilas team was a possession or two away from beating them.

Isn't this acceptance thst perhaps the Philippine homegrown players who are hyped are probably not really as good as players who can make an itsly and DR NT roster .who are raised overseas.
I mean seriously Dalph who could have played for Italy is miles away of the level of being a prospect for Italy., would be questionable to even play in their premier league as a local.

yes because the PBA will just hijack the program and put their own boys in the roster despite the fact that local italian and dr players are miles ahead than our locals, especially that they have a higher level of competition in their domestic leagues.

there’s a reason why Italy trashed us back in 2019 (quality ehem)

does having clarkson (2nd best player in the group)matter if the rest of the roster had minimal to no experience in the world level?

It should, IMO. Because without JC, i don't even think we would be even close to winning any of our group games. He's going to be a little better in points production than how Andray was 2014-2019 but a guy of his caliber can only do so much against opponents with multiple players of NBA pedigree. We're gonna need the current Gilas core members to have the game of their lives to pull out a win, much less, lose a cardiac-game against a KAT-driven DR.

I'm not going to expect one against a full-strength Italy NT, but losing a wire-to-wire game by less than 20 would already be a respectable achievement, at least for me.

                          • JC second best palyer i the group lol? even if we have the best one if we dont have a cohesive team it doesnt matter.. Basketball is a team sport and a one dimensional scorer is a best player in this field? He cant even get his footprint on wael arakji..and I am saying this as a clarkson guy over brownlee..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                            1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Hey, we have the same projections. But yeah Like Gilas with a 2014 Blatche, we will still lose, but atleast we weren't humiliated unlike in 2019. If only the core group were exposed to high level competition at a longer time, Tab had a plan unfortunately Chot, Vargas and Long Hair had to interfere.

I just hope that most of the plays wont be Clarkson dribbling the ball/in ISO for 20 seconds then shoot near the half court line (the Lillard play)

because that 2019 WC roster was ill-constructed, underprepared, badly coached. it's as if we were there solely for participation. We had an overweight ex-NBA player who's been out of the league for almost half a decade carrying the load. Recipe for disaster.

Now our locals consist of BLeague, NBL, KBL, (cream of the crop) PBA, and NBA players. It's too early to say that Italian and DR players are miles ahead when they haven't faced our current, more dynamic NT.
