But the problem is their Pro teams in respective clubs are reductant to agree to their participation due to business issues, and fear of injuries affect their players' health... USA squad still the favorites whatever they will bring, Since they have so much talent in their pool... But let's see first... It's too early... By the way Korea is not qualified, So FIBA doesn't care about Korean viewership... Korean basketball team also lost Nike sponsorship this year... So less hope for Korea right now.... While it's seems Japan will likely play w/o Rui Hachimura... According to his exit interview after the Lakers' exit from the playoffs, Rui still undecided to play for Japan... Not good for Okinawa fans and most of Japanese fanboys here at IBN wanted to see Japan's d*ck... But good for other Asian teams seeking for Olympic berth as Asian top finisher, Including Gilas...

Could be the reason why Chot and SBP is floating JB's name around alot to condition the fans, just in case Utah won't release JC to Gilas,I have a feeling that alot of NBA big talents are not gonna show up,not just the USA team but alot of the other teams, might just end up with 1 not too heralded player. As far as viewership in the US,it will be a losing proposition money wise, not only its not gonna be broadcasted in primetime,it will compete against baseball and American football.

Note Spencer and other youth players have had less than 2 years residency in the country but still got exempted, the reason for the rejection if application was only made now , is the full context of what Dorsey and Mirotic did for the rest of their careers , I'm assuming they played overseas, so the totality full context of the case is taken into account, (including why didn't the federation apply earlier ) . Federation intent is very important factor, if the intent was for Dorsey to play as a local, then FIBA will question why have you been inserting him as a NP all these years. Really Robert i advise you stop making assumptions based simply on what you read and hear... this is very misleading..
I don't know what you want to prove here? You said residency, And now you clearly change your statement!!! Cmon.... You are the one who are misleading here... I don't know who the hell is Spencer, But i see your post, Spencer is different case than Mirotic and Dorsey... That Spencer stays here for couple of years, while Mirotic and Dorsey didn't reside for their respective countries for long and their countries doesn't have a plan to take their cases as local, since their spots will be easily replace by other talents... They don't need to do that... You have clearly no proof to your statement, Not consistent at all....

FIBA doesn't care on US viewership by the way... That's why they expand the tournament... Last 2019, They gathered 1.5 billion viewership across the globe, 6th overall in most watched event in the world, They did that w/o US viewerships (or only handful of American viewers) and w/o most of NBA superstars participating... Remember, national team games are always marketable, It is always source of pride of each country... Example, In South Sudan, For sure 12 million South Sudanese will watch their national team perform in Manila, This is first ever world participation outside Olympics, Every SSD games will likely a national holiday for them for sure, Basketball is now no.1 sport in SSD... Same in Latvia, who basketball is considered no.1 or 2 sport (battling out with Ice hockey) and their citizens will watch their team perform for their debut... And FIBA has always Chinese viewers on their back in terms of viewership... Last 2019, 1/5 of total viewership of FIBA came from China... That's why FIBA doesn't worry if countries such Korea, US or Australia will not too much care on FIBA WC, since there are 200 countries all across the globe will watch their event... I'm sure i predict that 90% (or more) population of the Philippines will likely to watch every Gilas games in this FIBA WC in August (The reason why Chot Reyes doesn't want to resign because he will be always a hot topic, positive or negative), Live or in TV or streamings..

Comprehension again Robert, didn't you read it's not the lack of residency that will be the reason for Dorsey & Mirotic to not be exempted , but the totality of all factors . No Spencer got exempted after only 1 year residency , got his passport at 18 , stayed 1 year and got exempted at 19.. debunking the theory that you need 2 or more years residency .
You're actually proving your lack of understanding when you post, cause it's based on speculation and arriving in assumed beliefs of how things work. Understand the difference between guideline principles and rules, there is no explicit number of years required for exception. (there is no formula) , comprehend now ?

NBA does, that's why reluctant to release their superstars, very low viewership in the US,viewership will be lower if other teams won't release their Euro players to play at the WC,its hard to convince fans to watch live at 12-5 am in the morning.

heck, the 2002 FIBA World Cup that Indiana hosted was a ratings and gate receipt disaster (though that was 20 yrs ago), I blame the lack of star power for this. Paul Pierce was the only superstar on that team, while Reggie Miller was there as a nostalgia act/to draw the Indiana crowd.

FIBA World Cup is usually shown on tape delay in the US

                  • Brownlee as local? Is this possible?

                    Feom Gerry Ramos twitter:

Suggestions are being made of having both Jordan Clarkson and Justin Brownlee playing together for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup, with Brownlee playing as a local if it is possible for the world governing cage body

there defying logic and what theyre thinking.. Jpans front court will be reslved as 5 japanese based foreign players can apply exemption with their scheme..

And guess what who came up with that freaking idea.. Ricky Vargas hahahahahha, hahaha instead of fighting for the right of Jordan Clarkson and maybe in the future Jalen Green to be not tagged as naturalized players boom they surrender on the argument
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

                          • This illustrate how stupid Vargas idea is, this is what it comes down to:

If Philipps and Kouame signed PBA contracts committed they will only play in the PBA (enter the draft ). , 100 % guaranteed Vargas and Panilio will be screaming announcing of their brilliant idea to ask for exceptions for both. JUST birilant ang galing. Geez what has the SBP turned into..!!

I think he and Panlilio are the guys CTB despises the most from the SBP.

Notice how all of Tab's dealings were with MVP directly. Never with Panlilio or Vargas.

CTB losing the GIlas HC position is on Panlilio. No one else.
