      • Strong wanted him to be the centerpiece of that dubai team with Balkman shabazz... but they didnt shoulder Ange's surgery and rehab and Ange was down in dengue that time..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Couldn't be this year, with the WC,only 1 month away from season opening, the NBA will not let their superstars play and that goes with Euro teams probably.Whoever scheduled the WC in September is just out of his mind.In the US definitely almost no one will watch it since its not primetime and it will be competing against MLB,NFL and College Football. We all know that MLB is king in both Japan and South Korea so,they're focused on that for sure and Australia, they have some rugby stars that play in the NFL.

Is that the FIBA WC schedule August 25? The schedule is not the issue by the way... But the problem is their Pro teams in respective clubs are reductant to agree to their participation due to business issues, and fear of injuries affect their players' health... USA squad still the favorites whatever they will bring, Since they have so much talent in their pool... But let's see first... It's too early... By the way Korea is not qualified, So FIBA doesn't care about Korean viewership... Korean basketball team also lost Nike sponsorship this year... So less hope for Korea right now.... While it's seems Japan will likely play w/o Rui Hachimura... According to his exit interview after the Lakers' exit from the playoffs, Rui still undecided to play for Japan... Not good for Okinawa fans and most of Japanese fanboys here at IBN wanted to see Japan's d*ck... But good for other Asian teams seeking for Olympic berth as Asian top finisher, Including Gilas...

                    • I have a question. In case that Mirotic will rescind his decision to retire from international basketball and decide to play for Spain once again can he be consider as local player by FIBA? He moved to Spain at age 14 and represented them in national youth internationally several times before his transition to senior side. Will his status can be re- classified as local from naturalised if pursue by Spanish federation?

How about Greece’ Michael Dorsey’s case? His mother is Greek and has represented the country in World U-19 championships. Will he also be a compelling bet to be re- classify from FIBA recognized naturalised to local one?

I could identify Mirotic to Kouame. In comparison Ange started his residence in Philippines at age 18 whilst Mirotic matriculated at Real Madrid and lived there at age of 14 and lived there for 9 years. And also identify Dorsey with Michael Phillips. But Dorsey appeared with Greek system years younger at 19 in contrast with Phillips ‘ age of 21 when he debuted in a non- FIBA tourney.

Super hard to second guess how FIBA will decide on each of those cases, the only thing that i can share and advise on is the rationale for the exception guidelines that provides insight on how if followed they make decisions, on that matter I'm pursuing with FIBA central ( legal commission) on proposed improvements with more clarity of guidelines for exceptions , currently it isn't clear what is the accepted level of residency , domestic competition ,other connections ( e.g. relationship to a citizen) and age of residency and acquisition of citizenship (passport) . Improving definition will minimize subjectivity as well as reputation that some get favorable decisions compared to others .. hopefully ma improve ...

also people should not expect that the detailed criteria ( # of years residency) will be shared publicly , this is for FIBA to keep private to avoid federations from gaming the system, it isn't an obligation for FIBA to divulge the details of how they are making decisions, at least not to the public.

                        • Just looking at the cases of Mirotic and Dorsey, the 1st requirement to be reclassified is their federation has to request for it , and obviously it follows to invest time and money on that request there has to be compelling need to request for it? if the player is past his prime and there is no intent to use him as a local with no intention of using another naturalize player together with the reclassified player then the point is moot .
This actually happens with youth players, as when they represent their youth team they are the one and only player with a passport over 16, so player is allowed to participate in tournament as the NP , now if he wants to play as a local in the future and the senior team has the NP spot allocated by someone else, then he needs FIBA clearance to be reclassified as a local .

Not possible... Dorsey and Mirotic didn't reside to their respective countries after their youth stint.. When they set the foot in the NBA, Their residency already cut since they have to stay for a while in US... Residency is one of they key component for exemption...

When you classified before in our discussion that residency is the key, Both Mirotic and Dorsey can't make it for exemption because they stay for some years in the NBA, and NBA is based in the USA... So when they set their foot in the US, Their residency already cut, since they have to reside to US for their job as professional player in NBA... Although both now return to Euroleague, I don't think Spain and Greece will fight for their exemption status... Both have numerous talents in their youth program... Spain have young prospects such as Izan Almansa and Juan Nunez to be pick this summer and for long term program while Greece have Nikolaos Rogkavopoulos and Nikolaos Arsenopoulos (Both played against Gilas u19 years ago)....

The reason cited is actually incorrect , ( not the likely decision - which is correct that it will probably be denied) , the reason for rejection will not actually due to lack of residency ( as there is no explicit requirement that a player should have more than 1 year residency in the country (assuming Dorsey and Mirotic did ?) Note Spencer and other youth players have had less than 2 years residency in the country but still got exempted, the reason for the rejection if application was only made now , is the full context of what Dorsey and Mirotic did for the rest of their careers , I'm assuming they played overseas, so the totality full context of the case is taken into account, (including why didn't the federation apply earlier ) . Federation intent is very important factor, if the intent was for Dorsey to play as a local, then FIBA will question why have you been inserting him as a NP all these years. Really Robert i advise you stop making assumptions based simply on what you read and hear... this is very misleading..
