I'll pass, 2024 and 2028 Olympics na lang, I think the prestige of the OLYMPICS compared to WC will further widen . And WC will be know pang mass participation (more teams ), but lower level ( stars skipping WC)

They should distribute the locations of the matches per groups... Ex: Group A in Manila, Group B in Cebu, Group C in Davao and Group D in Baguio... That means some of local fans who want the games can afford to come even more
Both facilities are still under construction

l wonder how many slots will be given to asia in 2027. Plus who else bid for 2027?
Seven slots like in 2019. Depending on Qatar’s performance, FIBA might give them the Indonesia treatment and require additional things like a second round qualification during the 2027 FIBA WC Qualifiers.

This is absolutely stupid. It’s obvious FIBA chose them because of money. If Qatar didn’t have strong footballing traditions, they most certainly don’t have one for basketball.

As someone who lives in America, I was hoping the event would take place here. Idiots. Asia to host the tournament for the third time in a row.

          • C,mon, let's not be to harsh to SBP regarding the Philippine Arena.. that is an arena to be proud of.. who would have thought that U@ can finally stage a concert here, thanks to Philippine Arena which is their requirement, among multiple concerts as well.. that Arena has lifted us and gave us lots of opportunities..

It is just unfortunate that transportation and traffic is still and will be a problem in the Philippines.. this is not the fault of SBP.. guys, wag naman sisihin lahat sa SBP (well most for me masisisi talaga SBP).. but the Philippine Arena is a sight to behold and a structure to be proud of...

talagang madami lang talaga tao at sasakyan within the Metro that really causes this traffic. what more with a lot of foreign delegates..

and the pandemic really fucked up the preparation.. the world stopped, and funds depleted..

buti na lang talaga we have the MOA Arena which is modern enough..

            • In hindsight i think it was bad decision to bid to lead hosting the WC , not only from the decision of FIBA, but our government, given a choice considering all merits it would have been better not to be main host, and just at best do an Okinawa..
All factors are not there to merit a wise decision, 1st the Philippines is financially struggling, so priorities on reaources are scarce . The benefit of being the main host as.compared to secondary host are minimal.
One area the Philippines is sorrily lacking is infrastructure, they prioritise an event before focusing on much needed infrastructure improvements , LOL the transport system is dismal, and it's population live with it daily , go figure. Bad decision

QATAR will automatically qualify for the WC because WC will be hosted by single nation. Unlike in this edition of WC 2023, 3 nations will host and giving them 3 slot which means other higher teams need to fight for every spot. That's why they give Indonesia that requirement. I think if Imdonesia is within the Top 50, FIBA can easily give them the slot.

FIBA will award it without any prerequisites. So it means there will be 7 slots up for grab for the FIBA ASIA - OCEANIA REGION.

They probably bribed some important people again. Well at least this time they won't have to hire fake fans for promotion as we have a lot of Pinoy fans in there.

Also I didn't know that a lot of Qataris are into basketball. Football I can understand but from the time I spent there I can say only a few of them watches the sport let alone know how to play. This is another sport washing venture.

                  • At least more slots again for Asia.. I think the 2028 Olympics is our best shot not next year's.. that is where the likes of Kai, Edu, Korea and Japan guys. Mason Amos, etc.. have been developed and are now mature physically, mentally, emotionally, not to mention have gained more experience.. that is if SBP will get their senses right..

The hosting was just an expensive way to guarantee a slot for the World Cup. All things considered, if Korea didn't pull out... we'd be in Jordan's or even Iran's place fighting for that last Asian slot. Speaking of which, because the SBP can still rig this draw tomorrow... I'm actually hopeful for that top Asian place that gets Gilas to the Olympics. Realistically, I don't mind if Japan gets it because its well-deserved considering they were a joke in 2009 until they became really good in 2015 and rode that momentum to where they are now.

Japan has able to revived their dead bball program thanks for the merging of jbl and bj league..and realization that basketball is a muscle sport as we see japanese players bulking up..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

well, SBP under MVP as the president did a hell of job. his successor, though, is a straight tr**h.

                          • I'm just happy that FIBA spared the Philippines and SBP from humiliation by transferring the final rd games to MOA from the Phil. Arena. We would have been the butt of jokes for a while if the world would see the poor logistics and lack of infra within the Phil. Arena's vicinity. Those concerts by international acts could at least tolerate the inefficiency of the arena and its proximity since they would just perform for 1 day, but FIBA being 2-3 weeks long would exacerbate the suffering.

Plus, since ticket sale are barely moving, would be embarrassing to see a half filled arena during the final four up to the finals. I think FIBA doesnt want a repeat of the 2002 FIBA World Cup with the RCA Dome only having 2-7k audience despite a seating capacity of 56K. heck the Conseco Field House (main arena), that has a capacity of 17K only had a average of 5K crowd, luckily the finals between Argentina and Serbia was sold out.

Philippines has a different understanding of bulking up, lol
