Finland and DR didn't benefit on past qualifiers since the old format takes only 5 Americas team and atleast 7 Euro teams in a 16 (or 24 in 2006) field WC tournament before.... But Euro and Americas basketball fans knows how tough Finland and DR today, especially having Markannen and KAT in the line up.... As many said, If NZL plays in Americas or Europe, they can't even qualify to in WC and Olympics in the past...
For Nth time I continually admit NZ is preferred beatable team over DR and Finland by most... no one is arguing thst (please read) And yes if in Europe will not qualify (read again)

And again NZ has always been weaker in tslent thsn the 2 or 2nd tier Euro or Americas teams, but as they participate in each world cup they have proven time and time again to punch beyond their weight ( strength). The results verify this .why can't you get this ?

essentially NZL performs like a 2nd tier Euro or Americas team in the WC despite NOT having the same level talent as them. "UNDERSTAND?" (Verified by WC results not qualifers , comfusing others again)

How do they perform at a higher level beyond their talent level in WC ? Perhaps coaching , preperation and reality that the core players play regularly together for many years (unlike DR etc). Still cannot understand? I give up..

now here is the thing about matching up, when you're a weaker team like an Asian team your chances of beating a stronger talented team cannot be done by out talenting them but by better chemistry. So there actually is merit to choose opposition matchups that while more talented don't have as good cohesion. Casing point I would rather play a more talented team USA but hastily put together compared to playing a well oiled machine like Spain. Again this is a factor you fail to consider, "talented but not cohesive teams are easier to upset"

the NZL 2016 OQT is NOT more talented than the Gilas 2014 WC opponents (like PR or Croatia), but the NZL OQT team may perhaps be harder to beat as they're more prepared for Gilas and have been together for years.

Better yet: how small ball really works.

        • Bottom line

It is unanimous opinion that Gilas and Iran (if can group) are the most beatable teams in Pot 1 and 5 respectively

IT is NOT unanimous opinion with some of different opinion like Paolyo that NZ isn't necessarily the preferred opponent of Gilas from Pot 5 over Finland and DR. And there is actually some merit to that opinion however debatable.. (yun lang). I'm not saying they're absolutely right , but neither is it absolutely right that DR and Finland are better picks (it's difference in opinion).

But Gilas and Iran it's absolute, they are the most beatable teams in their Pot.

I think they ran a more athletic version of Chot's 3-guard lineup, which frankly is the only justifiable reason to run a 3-guard lineup with all of those guards 191cm and under.

My ideal model is a mobile 199cm+ PF, and a tall (196cm+) player at 3. Hahahahahaha. Did DR run that this qualifiers, though?

I'm more old-school, I prefer a traditional lineup, but I don't lose sight of versatility. I prefer developing tall small ball in the Philippine context because of our lack of size, we can't really run traditional lineups.

For the NTH time... How many times did we tell that PHL and Iran can't be grouped each other.... If you are in situation of Greek, Italian or German fans, what combination of teams they think have a chance to get a closest 3-0 start in Preliminaries? If Iran's possible groupmates are USA, Spain or Australia, While the possible POT 5 groupmate of PHL are DR, Finland or NZL.... Pick your poison... Don't force what you want... You can check their social media accounts, From Twitter, IG, etc.... their first choice is PHL and NZL combination and either one of Angola or CIV.... Finland is a dangerous opponent for them because they know how they can capable of, same w/ DR that they compare it to Argentina or Brazil....

Sorry, Finland and DR are also playing together for years, same as your team... But their biggest advantage that your team doesn't have is that they have a legit go to guy who can level up their team's performance (Markannen of Finland and KAT of DR)... I also talking about Greek, Italian or German fans situation who they wanted to face with... And that's a fact.... Their level of respect against your NZL are low compare to DR or Finland... And even most of Filipino fans in social media praying for NZL because they somehow have that chance rather than DR or Finland....

And for the nth time we all know that, (for those who are not grouped with Philippines (all none Asian teams) they absolutely unanimously prefer to group with Iran from Pot 5. How many times do I have to clarify this. Only 1 team per Pot will group with the Philippines the 3 other teams in each Pot if not Asian can group with Iran (is that hard to understand?)
and unanimously those that can, prefer Iran as beatable from Pot 5

Again and again you're not reading . I've already said MOST prefer NZ as beatable compared to Finland and DR . And yes by reputation talent as you cited.

Yet time and time again NZL punches beyond its weight or perceived strength (of fans). That is why there are still some (NOT all or majority) who rather avoid NZ as compared to Finalnd and DR. These people are not necessarily wrong , as they have merit to what they're saying given NZ history of always playing beyond it's strength.. (still can't understand?)

                      • This is a reflection of how European coaches view NZ as compared to Asian teams

                        Germany coach Gordie Herbert.
"emphasized New Zealand, saying that it's wrong to underestimate them

"New Zealand is one of the dark horses in world basketball. New Zealand is often forgotten when listing the best teams, but they play very good basketball there," Herbert continued.

"China is coached by my good friend Sasa Djordjevic, one of the best European players of all time. Is building its program to become more competitive at the world stage ."

The general sentiment is New Zealand can upset European teams in a good day (have beaten 6 Euro teams since 2010 in official FIBA games , Russia, France , Ukraine, Finland, Turkey, Montenegro, while Asian teams are not viewed as "dark horses " or serious upset threats ( since 2010 all Asian teams still have zero wins vs European teams as evidence)

IMO, teams from Latin American region have the most number of skilled and athletic players in all FIBA zones (sorry Africa, US and Canada). That's why DDO can be an effective system there.

I wonder who the US will send. They don’t consider the WC to hold the same prestige as the Olympics.

Still hope to see guys like Bam, Herro, and Booker.
