  • I guess Mr.Analyzed hint that China will hire naturalized guy from NBA will be true at all... With Kyle Anderson from Minnesota and Yao Ming/CBA is in final talks to get the former's services as NP will be finalize and expecting Anderson to play for China in FIBA WC this year... With that case, China again have the advantage vs Japan... Chinese locals are much better than Japanese locals ( CBA is way better than B-League).... And another NBA guy who will play in this summer's FIBA WC...

Not really sure about the fit. Slow mo can handle the ball and set plays and pretty good on D but he's more of a glue guy than a real superstar.

Japan has 2 active NBA players though and they only have 1. They have advantage in height and depth

One, Chinese descent seems to be a requirement. Second, China doesnt lack players in any position. Slowmo is a legit NBA player even though he is slow. 6'9 with long arms he probably can play 3, 4, 5 in Fiba. High BBIQ, decent offense and defense. He will contribute to China without overshadowing the locals.

His movement maybe slow but he's not too slow than we think... He calculated his movement and he knows when to change pace from slow to fast... You don't need to be ultra fast or athletic just to be a great basketball player... Tim Duncan moves are slow but why he is in the HoF? Same as Larry Legend Bird.... This is why Jalen Green still struggling in the NBA (or atleast level up his status to be All Star caliber)... He might be fast and athletic but his decision making and IQ still lacking....

We will do that after the draw... Because anything will depends on the draw... I don't know why the draw put it a little bit longer after the last qualifiers? Last 2019 FIBA WC, the draw was held 3 weeks after the final window of qualifiers (March 16).... Why is it? But because Philippines will surely get easier group than other Asian teams, They will likely the favorites to get the Olympic spot due to favorable draw... Although China, Japan and Lebanon will be the strongest teams among Asian contingent in FIBA WC... Unfortunately for those three teams, They will likely facing two top 15 basketball teams playing in the FIBA WC due to low rankings.... Go to Mr. Mojo's calculation in FIBA WC thread in world forum in IBN... He has already analysis who will be the groupings in upcoming event....

Speaking of Chinese basketball, I just wonder why the Chinese national team has never repeated or duplicated the kind of very impressive defense that their team had exhibited during the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship? I remember how the Chinese stymied the mighty Iran team in the semis using a sufocating defense. Then it was Gilas turn to be victimized by that same punishing defense by China (not to mention some sabotage work the Chinese did against our team) in the finals. It was a very impressive display of team defense I've seen in Asian basketball all these years.

But after that 2015 tournament, the Chinese national teams that figured in several FIBA tournaments & qualifying windows were not that impressive on defense.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Kyle Anderson is like a Jordan Clarkson for them tho, an American-Chinese actually.

Jalen Green is a croc. Yeshkel had an indepth analysis of him. The guy is a throwback to pre-Curry inefficient volume shooters. Those who can actually lose games because of their chucking ways. It is so easy to game plan on him because he doesnt pass. He'd rather attempt a low FG difficult shot against multiplr defenders than pass to an open teammate.

The only reason he is allowed to chuck shots is because the Rockets are tanking. His moves are flashy but many dont go in. Pilit in local parlance.

I think he will be benched once Houston gets their high pick. Any of the projected top 5 are better than him.

I think we need to include AJ in the WC pool. We need all the defense he can get. He could play up to 14 minutes, which might be all we need from him.

This might be a really, really hot take and unpopular opinion, but I think AJ should take precedence over June Mar here due to youth and defense. mapuakid once made this opinion, and I'm echoing his sentiment. AJ provides good defense with rim protection and PnR.

June Mar naman, thanks for the service. In his Gilas heyday, yes he was still a poor defender, but he gave us points to make up for it and more. Now, based on last window, his offense can't make up for his poor defense anymore, which unfortunately makes him a minus.

he may be slow in NBA standards, but he’s still a NBA player and will be a handful against Asian, African and lowtier Euro and Americas team.

plus yeah you have the likes of Doncic and Jokic who are not exactly fast but knows how to use their heft to their advantage. But of course he is not on the level of those superstars, but by virtue of being a nba player, he is above the rest of competition in FIBA Asia, except for Clarkson, Hachimura and Yuta

ye , high time for junmar to retire from Gilas duties, and he served his country well. And perhaps his recent showings would silence those who argue that he was underutilized in Gilas, he’s just to slow and antiquated for the modern FIBA game.

though he could be a insurance big good for 5 fouls. Luckily he’s no longer in the limelight, PBA/SMC would no longer force the 6th time mvp to be part of gilas

Yeah no wasted movements from him. I'd take an "unathletic" by NBA standards player with good BBIQ rather than an athletic players who plays like headless chickens.

And he might look like unathletic compared to the top 10% basketball player in the world but he's definitely head and shoulders above anyone else in Asia except maybe his fellow NBAers

Zach already played for Canada’s u19 already and was also included in the seniors pool, Canada doesn’t have many quality centers
