Abando SJ RJ are next in line but not for this year.
SJ and RJ are both undersized.

Rhenz doesn’t offer anything that Dwight or BRP can’t provide.

Shot blocking? Though we don't really need that from the guard position. He's really explosive though.

Heading IMO still is our best shooter.

      • they could tap rj,sj and renz for the asian games though, barring any schedule issues, SBP/Chot is planning to send a different team anyway

With AJ Edu and Brownlee by the way... although they have to monitor what China will use in Asian Games in terms of eligibility as concerned... They are the host and they can select either FIBA eligibility or OCA eligibility.. Since this is China and we all know this is their no.1 sport and they want to retain their title, then they will have the leverage for that what will use for Asian Games

You never know what SJ & RJ may develop into. But as I've said, no point inviting them now, they will not make it to the lineup anyway.

And yes, no one can provide what Dwight can. He's a shoo-in and core member of Gilas for 2-3 more FIBA cycles.

However, BRP is getting old and would need a replacement moving forward after WC2023. Rhenz Abando although a few inches shorter than BRP, is a contender to take his spot.

Anyway, is Alec Stockton eligible? He was such a revelation earlier against SMB. Aldin Ayo developed him into a point guard who's a scoring threat. 6'1, 24 years old with leaping ability and high IQ. Huge upside. Confidence was his issue going into PBA, but now he's gotten over the hump. Reincarnation of JJ Helterbrand.

AJ Edu no problem. He already represented us in Batang Gilas.

In the Asian Games, 99% Jordan Clarkson can't play. Crucial year for him as he's seeking to breach $20M a year. Even Kai is doubtful if he makes it to an NBA training camp, since the competition will be late October.

If we can somehow put Ange, Barefield, Mikey Williams & Brownlee together for Asian Games, that can give us a legitimate chance to get at least a medal. But since China is the host, highly unlikely this will be allowed.

You named those players who will give Chinese team very big problem... That's why highly doubtful they will use OCA eligibility rules... China will not win against that kind of line up, maybe on 2026 Asian Games when Japan will host... They (China) already have hard time last 2018 when Gilas inserted ineligible players but w/o team chemistry due to issues with professional schedules.... They know Philippines' capability if sending much talented ineligible players...

If I were Chot, go all out in WC2023, make sure we're the best Asian team to qualify to Paris Olympics (we are the host anyway, breaks of the game and some calls may go our way).

                  If we don't qualify for Olympics, it's a brand new FIBA cycle for us;

If this happens, field in a young Cadet team in the Asian Games (example: LeBron, Rhenz, Amos, AJ Edu, Gozum, JGDL, Schonny, Caelum Harris, Ildefonso, etc.), use that as a build up for FIBA Asia Cup 2025. Discover 2-3 players in that team that may be added to the core Gilas team. Look to qualify at least QFs. Asian Games don't matter in FIBA rankings anyway.

However, if we do qualify for the Olympics, and China uses FIBA eligibility rules, field in the same World Cup 2023 core, keep our pride as best Asian team intact. Since NBA season is on the horizon, replace JC with either Ange or Brownlee, Kai will be a big loss but depending on who they choose between Ange or Brownlee, a PBA big or another proven wing will be enough to win Asian Games.

If they use OCA eligibility, and everybody is available (JC & Kai available all of the sudden), it's gonna be an overkill to be honest.

Possible Asian Games lineup (OCA eligibility) -- with JC & Kai

                  PG Sedrick Barefield
                  SG Justin Brownlee

                  • Taiwan will host Lithuania, France and Latvia for a series of tune up games before FIBA WC in summer.... Lucky for Taiwan even they are not qualified for this summer's big basketball event, As they will test their skills vs Europeans powerhouse...

Taipei, Feb. 13 (CNA) Several NBA stars are set to take to the court in Taiwan this summer as New Taipei's Xinzhuang Gymnasium hosts warm-up for three national teams ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Their only problem is market, Since their population is only 3 million people, But that is not a problem anymore due to social media preference... It's easy to spread the event thru social media videos/highlights even in the heavily market countries likes China, US, Australia, etc..... If FIFA picks Qatar as host that has only 2 million inhabitants (most of people are workers, only atleast 300k are locals)... Then why not FIBA picking Lithuania that has proven a basketball hotbed in Europe....

In the US market this coming WBC will fail and the network that acquired the license to broadcast will lose money. The timeline for playing it live doesn't match primetime in the US,seocnd its September where American sports fans are deep in the MLB playoffs and championship, second its American football season so we all know from Thursday to Sunday its,High School,College and NFL on tv.It also affects the viewing of fans from Japan,Korea and Australia where the two sports are very popular and they have native players playing. The NFL last season played 5 international games, not exhibitions in England,Germany and Mexico and they all sold out,If the NFL just gonna be an ass about it,they should have games in Australia and Japan and England as usual during the WBC games.MLB playoffs and championship broadcasts all over Asia,South America and Canada where they have players playing in almost all the teams.

So essentially they are shoo ins for 2023 WC
