  • Actually an athlete sponsor collective , similar to below for promising Pinoy ballers for Div 1 is indeed possible, ive been thinking of the model and thinking of helping raise money for a good prospect

The Massachusetts Collective exists solely to benefit UMass Basketball Student Athletes. The Massachusetts Collective has several subscription (or one time) levels for fans, donors and businesses. At least 90% of all contributions will be paid directly to student athletes (less the actual costs of tangible membership benefits and operating overhead). Massachusetts Collective directors will never receive compensation or profit from the collective. We are committed to efficient fiscal operations while deploying our resources in an agile, aggressive and targeted manner while remaining in strict compliance with all NIL regulations. All NIL Deals are facilitated with University of Massachusetts Athletic Department Compliance approval to ensure all student athletes collegiate eligibility are protected and NCAA Rules and Regulations are being followed.

If you put talented tall players in a system where they could be noticed by college scouts then you are halfway there. We had only Kobe Paras so far, and he was a apectacular failure. But what does a Watanabe have that Kobe doesnt? The work ethic to grind and develop your game? I would argue that if Arvin had a sponsor and was able to go to college there that he would have more success. Maybe the relaxed rules of the NCAA on commercial deals would help?
By the way Hachimura was traded to the Lakers... How this will impact his stint in Japan's basketball team this summer? Lakers are one of the teams that are not famous on putting their players playing in international competition, Although the likes of Kobe and P. Gasol well represented in international tournaments before.. But they are established players already... Rui is not... It will be a challenge for JBA to convince Lakers management to lend Hchimura to play for Japan this summer... He's very important piece for Japanese team in this era of Japanese basketball (Current face of Japan's basketball)...

My wild dream is to buy ownership in an NBL team, no harm in dreaming
How an Indian businessman manage to owned NBA team like Sacramento Kings, whereas India's popular sport is Cricket, While none of Filipino businessman has owned a NBA team even that Filipino's no.1 sport is basketball?

Well, according to Nielson sports (This is accredited sports data research).. 46% of the sports fans in the world are football (soccer) fans then next is basketball has 36%... Cricket has only 17 or 18%...

Regardless of whether you call it football or soccer, it’s a sport with massive global appeal and fan interest. In fact, more than 40% of people 16 or older in major population centers around the world consider themselves interested or very interested in following football, more so than any other sport.

The world's 50 most marketable athletes covers 15 athletes from soccer/football, Then next are basketball athletes with 7....

Just a survey, with some traditional footballing countries in the African and European continent not included in the polls. But yeah, basketball still has undeniably grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade or so, although still not enough to surpass football (yet) as it is also experiencing a steady growth on its own in huge markets like US, CHN, and IND.

In reality, I guess 55-60% are football fans worldwide, while basketball followers might atleast 25-30% and cricket 18-20%... Basketball has also new followers in South Sudan has 11-12 million inhabitants while Mongolia has 3 million inhabitants... So far, FIBA's gamble on changing the format into home and away is good, even have some controversies regardless of players' availability per window, including from NBA and Euroleague....

Seems like it, the additional games was an additional exposure. I'd also attribute this growth to the modern NBA and how it took advantage of the modern online-streaming technology.

Even in Europe, Ice hockey countries likes of Finland, Iceland have hoops fans or middle east countries likes Syria or Iraq have massive basketball fans that we never know if FIBA sticks to the old format.... Look at Cricket, their market only stuck at Indian sub continent and countries likes Australia and UK, rest of the world doesn't know this sport is still exist, because ICC board didn't embrace globalization.. w/o massive Indian market, the sport cricket will likely die from the dust... Indian fans, alongside Bangladesh and Pakistan fans put the sport cricket in existence... Globalization is the key for FIBA to make their market bigger and stronger, they can't rely just only US, China or Philippines' market to them for revenue... They have to explore something, even it will take some criticism from their old markets...

In Europe.. playing for national team is a big deal, whether it's WC or Olympics.. For them, the value it's same... Especially if they playing against their rival European nations (Spain vs France, Greece vs Turkey, Greece vs Serbia, ex Yugoslav match ups, etc) and against USA... For Europeans, beating team USA in a sports field is a big thing because for them, this is the only arena that they can prove to the Americans that they are the best over them.. Unfortunately, the only sport that they can prove that is only basketball... In soccer/football, Europeans are better than Americans, especially the latter doesn't care about that sport and not powerhouse in football/soccer, They can't also prove that in cricket, since Americans doesn't know that sport... While Europeans doesn't acknowledge most of American sports likes of Baseball, American football while only handful of countries only playing in Ice Hockey (northern hemisphere countries only) and volleyball (only Poland and Italy are good volleyball teams in Europe).. That's why basketball is the only sport that can prove to Americans that they are better... Europeans only accept basketball in all American sports due to cheap and easy to play...

USA ain't invincible in hockey, they ain't even the top NT from their own continent, though being a world no. 4 ain't so bad either. It's a European NT that's on top of the world rankings.

Yeah... Russia, Canada are better teams there, and most of the teams who playing in ice hockey are those who in the Northern part of the hemisphere, While Field hockey is always consist of British colonial counties likes of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc....
