I guess FIBA Asia cup 2025 will be either one of Gulf countries (KSA, Qatar, UAE), Jordan or Mongolia... I bet with those places....

Okay, I must've referenced an outdated list from Google but still, the gulf between the 1st and 2nd is still too wide.

No doubt about it. Despite their population, LTU really is a European basketball hotbed. My suggestion was rooted from the fact that SRB, CRO, and SLO are in the same region and are in close proximity with each other, which is advantageous, logistic-wise.

and lithuania is willing to spend not only for their program but for hosting, remember how much they spent for the OQT 2 yrs ago, too bad Luka went god mode against Sabonis and company

          • Among the so-called basketball hotbet in Europe I highly recommend Lithuania, Serbia, Greece and Spain in pecking order as the most ideal place if ever the SBP decided to setup a training camp in preparation for the coming WC. That is why on the topic who will be the ideal country to host the next cycle, I also on the side of Lithuania a beautiful country with lots of scenic views, a nice weather and a legions of basketball loving people. No wonder JGDL had a blast playing for BC Wolves at the highly competitive Lithuania Basketball League.

Rumors that last FIFA WC in Qatar gathering 5 billion views all tournament long... That's crazy even non football/soccer countries likes China, India and USA watched the finals between Argentina and France... It's crazy that most of Argentina fans last finals are mostly overseas, especially Bangladesh, who supported Argentina since the start of the tournament... This year, 3 WCs will held, Cricket, basketball and Rugby... Whoever gets more viewers, attendance and revenue will likely hail the sport as 2nd most popular... Interesting that ICC and FIBA picks countries who have huge fan base in respective sports, India in ICC WC while Philippines in FIBA WC... In terms of huge fan base, ICC will have the advantage (due to India's huge population)... But because their WC will have only 10 teams, it will not gather other views outside Indian sub continent... ICC's problem is their sport is not global sport... Whereas FIBA will likely take advantage since they have 32 teams and most of qualified nations are have basketball culture (Greece, Lithuania, Spain, China, Philippines, Serbia, etc..), Meanwhile Rugby WC will held in France this year will have 24 teams....

They also hosted numerous Eurobasket tourneys in the past... It's time that FIBA picks them as one of the host nations next WC edition... All of FIBA's criteria on hosting duties are exactly suitable for Lithuania..

                Basketball popularity: Check
                Good venues: Check
                Social media platforms: Check
                Team strength: Check
Time discrepancy: Check (Western side of globe can watch the event early evening or late afternoon, while eastern side of globe can watch late evening or early midnight)..

Their only problem is market, Since their population is only 3 million people, But that is not a problem anymore due to social media preference... It's easy to spread the event thru social media videos/highlights even in the heavily market countries likes China, US, Australia, etc..... If FIFA picks Qatar as host that has only 2 million inhabitants (most of people are workers, only atleast 300k are locals)... Then why not FIBA picking Lithuania that has proven a basketball hotbed in Europe....

                • speaking of Lithuania , my Gilas foreign camp organizer colleague is lithuanian , he is now the President of the FIFA Lithuanian federation, have had many discussion with him on Lithuania hosting , when he was in Manila ( visitor ) i asked him how he found the host FIBA accommodations, to my surprise, he said it's bad compared to what they can do in Lithuania ( both in terms of price, and value for money , " the 5 star hotels in Manila are overpriced and you can get deals at half the price in Lithuania of the same standard if not better .. as far as visitors to Lithuania , it's not an issue as logistically European countries are at a significant advantage , with neighboring countries so accessible to travel to and from ( it's no surprise that the MOST visited countries in the world are based in Europe)

BTW i watched a US women's soccer game last week in Wellington , it was packed with American visitors. (80 % of the crowd were Americans and visitors ) just goes to show you the model is very different for these countries compared to the Philippines mostly local crowd ( Philippine arena)

Can your Lithuanian colleague identify (or does he know someone who can identify) Filipino prospects good enough for at least a lower-tier European league? For development purposes. Hehehehe.

Given a good system, someone who can at least bring the ball up and keep the ball moving, given a good offensive system on offense. Not necessarily a pure PG.

I think maybe Heading or Lastimosa might do.

                      • You mean Fil Euro players ? Problem with Lithuania is they have a small or no Filipino community.
Italy and Spain would be good. I worked with an Italian pro team previously, they might know , plus of course NBTC Europe is Italy based with Dalph and Gomez came from

Homegrown or eligibles raised abroad, sir.

Oh, Italy. Maybe have someone feed our talented homegrowns there. Depends on the SBP's priorities, though, if they give a crap about developing players. Might need willing sponsors, which are also hard to find.

                          Thanks!

                          • A model I would love to see is a big Pinoy businesses invest ownership in a foreign league team, like in the NBL or Sacramento Kings , then leverage their ownership to put Pinoys

My wild dream is to buy ownership in an NBL team, no harm in dreaming

So far Tanduay under the late Bong Tan had sponsorship deals with GSW, hope that other oligarchs/Pinoy Tycoons like SMC, Jolibee, SM Holdings etc. would invest in one NBA team which could also serve as their vehicle to expand their business in the US

I get this but putting Pinoys in the NBA is another thing entirely. The Japanese model seems to be the one that works. Hachimura is athletic so you could say he has an advantage but Watanabe has your typical Asian athleticism. If you put talented tall players in a system where they could be noticed by college scouts then you are halfway there. We had only Kobe Paras so far, and he was a apectacular failure. But what does a Watanabe have that Kobe doesnt? The work ethic to grind and develop your game? I would argue that if Arvin had a sponsor and was able to go to college there that he would have more success. Maybe the relaxed rules of the NCAA on commercial deals would help?
