Countries who might make their debut stint in this year's FIBA WC:

So far only Latvia will make their debut this year, Who do you think are other teams who will make their debuts too?

Europe:

Bosnia & Herzegovina (5 - 5 / Group K European qualifiers)- Need to win twice and Montenegro lost their final 2 games, including the crucial BiH vs Montenegro match on Feb. 23 match or they have to beat Montenegro by 20 or more points to have a higher quotient in case of ties...

Hungary (5 - 5 / Group K European qualifiers) - need to win twice while hoping to pray that both BiH and Montenegro lose both games to qualify

Belgium (3 - 5 / Group I European qualifiers) - Need to win twice while hoping to pray that Serbia lost both games to be able to tie Serbia then need that Greece will not tie them too and get their much awaited WC debut this year's WC (Belgium have tiebreaker advantage vs Serbia since they hold 2-0 head to head match last year)

Georgia (4 - 4 / Group L European qualifiers) - Win twice to outright qualification or Iceland will not win vs Georgia by more than 3 pts to qualify

Iceland (4 - 4 / Group L European qualifiers) - Win twice, including their crucial match vs Georgia on Feb. 26 by more than 3 pts


Asia:

Saudi Arabia (2 - 6 / Group E Asian qualifiers) - Win twice and hoping for Jordan to lose twice to make their debut this year's WC (KSA hold a +1 quotient advantage vs Jordan in their head to head match last Nov. 2021 window)

Kazakhstan (5 - 5 / Group F Asian qualifiers) - Win twice and hoping for Iran to lose one of their qualification matches or Win one and hoping for Iran to lose twice to make their debut, and they should hope that Japan will not tie them too due to lower quotient vs Japan.. They hold tiebreaker advantage vs Iran due to 2-0 record last year's qualifiers..

Africa:

DR Congo (4 - 5 / Group F African qualifiers) - Need to win their final 3 games and hoping for Senegal and Tunisia lose all of their games in next qualifiers to qualify

Cape Verde (4 - 3 / Group E African qualifiers) - Need to win their final 3 games, Or to be better record than Angola to qualify or to be best 3rd place to qualify as best 3rd place finisher to qualify at WC...

South Sudan (8 - 1 / Group F African qualifiers) - Just need to win 1 to qualify and make their debuts at WC....

I doubt Jordan will lose to India given how shit the latter has been. Ditto for KSA winning over NZ who is parading their first team players.

Well, That is according to FIBA and recent standings... Mathematically possible but their chances are low, But i think based on their recent development, The 2027 FIBA WC might be their best chance to play their debut stint, because

1st: Iran is now their twilight of Haddadi's era in Iran (Haddadi might play his final year in Iran in 2023 WC or 2023 Asiad), Iran's next generation are not as good as the Haddadis or Bahramis of last 20 years of Iran's golden generation..

2nd: with current situation that until now NBA and Euroleague still not find solutions, Japan might be in trouble qualifying for 2027 WC, Hachimura and Watanabe are not available 4 out of 6 qualifiers, If they using local players in their local league, they are not that great and qualifications for WC will be hard for them, Same as for Philippines that Clarkson will be only available in June and August windows...

3rd: Their basketball program is on a rise, I check their ages in the website and i think they have good young core of players that will continue their development and chemistry in the next 5 years, Their veterans are still ages 32 - 34, still on their last hurrah of their prime years in next 5 years... And they are a rich country, They have unlimited resources from their federation to support their program, unlike most of countries (mostly 3rd world countries)..

Kazakhstan might have a chance if they are in other bracket.. But against China and Australia? That's too much for them... In 2027, I only see Australia, China and Lebanon are the big favorites to qualify for 2027 WC... As hype as some posters here at New Zealand but i'm not impress with them... Lebanon and Jordan can beat them regularly... While Korea is in question mark what will be their life after Ratliffe... I see Philippines is much better than Korea now...

For me, countries will likely to see their debut this coming August are South Sudan (Just need only one win to advance), One of Georgia or Iceland and Bosnia & Herzegovina (Cape Verde also in discussion too)... BiH have a legit chance since some of Montenegro's key players are injured (Radoncic) or unable to play due to club commitments whether in NBA or Euroleague (Simonevic, Vucevic, Dubljevic and Ivanovic)..

I'm sure also Giannis will play, mark it... Greek federation already have good communication with Milwaukee, that's why one of Buck's assistant coach is also in coaching staff of Greece.... And Greek media are hyping their team for this year's WC, As they are targeting atleast bronze medal this year....

2027 is too far away in a FIBA sense. Let’s see if they can improve their Asia Cup standings first. They have yet to face Kazakhstan, China, Korea, Japan, and CT. Even Guam is on par with KSA at least on paper. I’m reserving my judgements.

I don't know who that guy... But anyway i'm international basketball follower for years, and i have knowledge from Asia, Europe and Americas... KSA's situation is like Montenegro or Bosnia here (they have followers but not that big)... They copied European program and that is effective to a team that has little basketball culture.... No pressure unlike most of the countries who followed basketball more than football (Say hi to Philippines, China and Lithuania)... If you know how a basketball program that federation building, They on the right track... Same as what Iran did in early 2000's, little know that Iran has a basketball team before and no one knows basketball there, until group of guys (Haddadi, Bahrami bros, Sahakian) starting to notice everyone that they are here to compete too... Well, Bahrain is also same as KSA, right? But they give the likes of China and Korea a hard time winning (Don't tell Korea and China didn't treat them seriously, w/c is not)... Bahrain and KSA are on same level... And i think they are already better than Kazakhstan and Guam (Bahrain beat Kazakhstan already)... While they are now in a level with Taipei squad, or atleast on improved Indonesian team of DMX and Bolden in the line up.... Don't underestimate the power of rich resources in their program... Grouping ourselves with Team USA is really a must not only for the exposure of our guys(especially for Kai, he badly needed that), not only for marketing purposes which they’re really need, not only to jack up our country’s tourism image but to put ourselves in the history book(I stand to be corrected if I butchered some stuff) as only the 4th (hopefully) meeting of the two teams wherein the very first match was way back in 1936 Berlin Olympics, the second one was the 1954 FIBA World held in Rio De Janeiro wherein we only lost by 13 points and the rest as we all know is historical due to that 3rd place finish and the 3rd meeting was in 1956 Melbourne Olympics were we ended up 7th place and that was 67 yrs. Ago. I think meeting them on the 4th time will going to be our(Filipinos) lifetime dream if ever it happens and SBP must be fully aware of it, at the same time the goal of reaching the 2nd round(for now) will be a big gift to us basketball loving Filipinos and because number 5 is the favorite number(?) of the oligarch due to his TV5, winning at least 5 games(even though it will be a steep mountain to climb) and losing against the mighty USA by only at least 13 points just to replicate the 1954 game and strategically wise, I hope we could face them on the very last day of the group stage so that our boys are already well acquitted with the high level, goosebumps and nerves are somehow settled and that so-called first day jitters are already well controlled(?). Overall that’s my ultimate fantasy scenario for team Gilas come WC2023.
