The reason why Japeth or even Erram are more likely than Mason to make 2023 is positional need. Mason's competition aint the likes of Japeth but rather Tamayo and company.

Yup Japeth and Erram are better rim protectors even if they are older. At the stretch 4 position, Tamayo and Balti are there even Malonzo.

PBA players are the priority. If Almazan can play this 4th qualifier, they will remove Tamayo...kaso no other bigs from PBA can come in.

Honestly I think winning is the priority for this one. They cut PBA players like Alas after all.

But the position of Alas was taken by Skati, Newsome and the Ravena brothers which have very strong PBA connections.

              • Its gonna be an interesting list of 20 players for next year,I would be surprsed if in the list there's more than 10 PBA players.

                • I don’t feel bad about the loss to Lebanon in the WC Qualifiers. Despite time limitations due to scheduling conflicts and player availability, Gilas did good.

Surprised to see how good Japeth still is in FIBA play. We may need Japeth if Edu doesn’t regain his form or if Kouame doesn’t get an exemption.

The big and nagging problem still is preparation and player availability.

Japeth has always been serviceable with Gilas just dont put the weight on him to produce significantly, he thrives when there's little pressure to do well, role player tlga and he's fine being the 5th or 6th best player on the Team

Mason will not get spot for 2023 coz 37yo japeth and boy erram have more experience and capable to play in fiba tourney right? LOL
All I can say that an all-non PBA player team with Tab as a coach can beat any PBA coach with their choice of players in PBA and outside.

                              • “We’re looking at Jordan Clarkson as our naturalized [player for the World Cup],” Barrios told the Philippine Sportswriters’ Association forum Tuesday. “It’s like automatically … our big men would be locals, right? Because Clarkson is not a big man, and we are only allowed to field one naturalized player. So that’s when the question of who will be are going to be our local big men comes in.”

“Let’s start with the most veteran, June Mar Fajardo. And then we have AJ Edu who, unfortunately, is still coming back from injury. And then we get to Kai Sotto. From what I understand, he wants to play for Gilas. We are still talking to him.”
