Yes you are right. I did my research too and almost in every sport in Europe, the cadet age ranges from 14 to 19 years old depending on the sport. In fact in this link, cadet age is 14-to-15. Europeans will laugh at us when we coin the term "cadet" to refer to our 23+ year old college players

    • A good source on condition of anonymity told me SBP are pushing that Jalen green will be the naturalized player for the 2023 world cup.

I think they are still moving heaven and earth to re-consider JC as a local until the last minute because MVP are on-hand for this..as for JG, SBP has a good rapport with the management of Team USA.

Like Team USA would just let go of players, since most of their superstars are unwilling to play or just can't play.

thanks to all who answered. i asked this question last year and the answer seems to be vague when it comes to our national team. i agree that there seems to be an age range to be called a cadet. BUT, despite the age, if a young player joins the senior team or represents the country in a major tournament they graduate from being called a cadet. examples would be Rubio and Doncic. Both join the senior teams early in their lives and was never called a cadet afterwards. but in the Philippines, somehow, if you've never been in the PBA, you are a cadet. the whole team of CTB is a cadet. the team CCR took in SEA games was TNT players with cadets. i dont know what they call the team brought in Asia Cup, but im pretty sure some fans wil call them cadets still. Dwight, Thirdy, Tamayo to name a few all played for major tournaments. Dwight and Thirdy are pros in another country. yet they are still cadets. i dont care much about labels, but i am curious when their hard work to play for flag will be awarded respect to be called more than a cadet.

That's for longer term goal I guess. We have to remember that Clarkson is now 30 yrs old. In 5 or 6 yrs time, Clarkson won't be that efficient as a NP for Gilas. Jalen Green on the other hand is only around 20 or 21. Imagine the years that Jalen Green would be serviceable as Gilas NP if this plan pushes thru, although we are aware that Jalen has already represented team US in a FIBA youth tournament.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

                  • Lest we forget, Jalen Green already was capped by USAB and had led them in the U19 Worlds gold. I know FIBA allows citizenship changes like CStand for GER U16 / U18 then switched to PHL. , but never as high profile as Jalen Green

Cstan didnt join a Fiba organized (meaninga qualifier to world cup) tournament, he just played on standalone junior tourneys..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Its on Team USA to allow a switch like they did Charlie Villanueva.

Doubt it,they would let him go,their top tier NBA stars won't go,so he's one of their few with international experience.

I honestly think the US wouldn't care enough to hold Jalen hostage if he says he wants to play for our country. Maybe they try to convince him but if his mind is decided, I dont think they stop him or anyone of his caliber. Even without him, they can probably run at least 5 different teams that win the Olympics. Maybe even more with a proper balance of superstars and role guys.
