I am now hopeful that Angelo Kouame may get an exemption from FIBA to play as a local. He has been in the Philippines since 2016 and was naturalized in 2021.

Im pretty sure they tried to get Kouame too. Also FIBA should be consistent in its logic for giving exemptions and give them to every worthy case. Its the bare minimum.

I wonder why pringle and ross are not included in the list? Pringle played in ABL as filipino heritage import in 2012 and Became PBA player in 2014 and Ross has been here since 2009. they deserved exemption too... But maybe most Probably SBP did not pursue it, because they are too old which understandable and Ok.

With this news i'm confident UAAP players like lucero, phillips and others will get exemption too in the future.

Technically, no one is to be displaced. No one has a hold on a roster spot. Every real games will be a tryout.

That being said, chot should stick as program director while a new coach should be named. However, i am not sold on nenad.

This is how it should be. Chot and the PBA are making a hullabaloo of guaranteed slots. There should be no guaranteed slots. In the first place it backfired. It is the sole reason why Pogoy was picked in the SEA games and not Perez. Pogoy was was given a non guaranteed slot being in TNT and got picked when a slot opened up. While Perez couldnt be given a non guaranteed slot. Because non TNT PBA players deserve only guaranteed slots.Ironically because of this we could only pick the inferior player.

With the Malonzo, Adams and Newsome now classified as locals, next Gilas team may Mighty Sports feel in it...Last 2019 Jones Cup , Asian teams cant match the length and athleticism of Mighty Sports sweeping the competition...

Newsome only played 2 yrs for Ateneo I think so hopefully someone like Mike Phillips gets an exemption sooner.

not enough years for now. after his stint in ateneo, they should allow him to play in dleague so they can add playing in semi-pro league in d phils in his resume.

Im pretty sure they tried. It will be hard for FIBA to justify that any 18/19 yr old can be eligible as long as they stay long enough in a country when they have no prior roots/connections. Feels easy to abuse. Then again FIBA are the genuises that thought this idea but for 15 yr olds is all above board.

Newsome doing point guard duties for Meralco. His stroke is not ideal but his shots do get in. Good handles. Good defense. He will be a good candidate for the PH pool. Problem is if they defeat Ginebra he might not be available for the next qualifiers. Well Malonzo and Adams are still great candidates. Yeah, we might look like Mighty sports. Nothing wrong with that because these guys met the Hagop rule or were exempted.

I don't think that will work. Newsome probably got the exemption because he got his passport at 16, came over here at a relative young age and has been play for a long time. The above 3 probably didnt even get their passport at age 16.
