Does anyone have connections to Malakanyang? Perhaps we can tell BBM directly that we are going to be embarrassed heavily next year if we let SBP and Chot continue with their ways. At this point, Malakanyang already has a stake in the situation because we are the hosts.
BBM can summon the SBP officials and the team owners and threaten to open their books using the BIR if they do not cooperate. Money and power are the only things that will matter to the SBP and company. That is why these team owners do not listen to us. We have no power to wreak havoc when it comes to their corporate bottomline. But a tax case against your corporation is sure to make the owners relent.
Yes, FIBA doesn't like government intervention and if not handled properly could lead to a suspension. But I would gladly risk that if only for Gilas to be at its best next year.sigpic

As president, he has the powers to do that and as if the Marcoses really care about reputation. It is the bottomline that ultimately matters to them. The techniques isn't even have to be punitive but an incentive. If he can't threaten these corporations, offering an incentive could be an alternative. Tax breaks? You just have to be creative when using the powers of the presidency.sigpic

He probably owes more than corporations in unpaid taxes. We're not even talking the billions of dollars they stole from the public funds.
88M does not have leverage here. Not even his "I'm very New York" wife. He can't blackmail the oligarchs. The oligarchs can blackmail him though

The way it looks like, Gilas would be entering a needle's eye beating either Lebanon or NZ in the elimination round. Losing to both Lebanon & NZ would mean facing either Japan or Iran in a knockout match to make it to the quarterfinals. That would be a very very rough & chaotic sailing for Gilas."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

One of the greatest things made by the recent handling of SBP of the Gilas programme is that Filipinos would think twice about buying those 2023 WC tickets. What's the point of watching your team get blown out by 30 and more points? We'll just watch the games on TV then use the money somewhere else.
