Btw, July will be stacked for Gilas.

    GILAS JULY 2022 BUSY SCHEDULE

    * FIBA WC QUALIFIERS

July 1 - Gilas VS India
July 3 - Gilas VS New Zealand

    *Fiba Asia Cup 2022

July 13 - Gilas VS Lebanon
July 15 - Gilas VS India
July 17 - Gilas VS New Zealand
    July 18-24 ( Playoffs)

Some Notes on our Gilas Players:

Kai Sotto - The Nba Draft( June 23) is already over in this point of time. Kai will need to choose if he will play for Gilas. Or if he will play in Nba Summer League. ( Hopefully Gilas)

AJ Edu and Dalph Panopio - I Think They will be both available. US NCAA already ended. And Next Season will probably in November 2022.

B league Players - Most Probably available

Pba Players - Hopefully they will be lend at the right time.

Uaap/Ncaa players - Their Season already ends at this point of time. Hopefully they will be released by their schools.

      Vodnavich , Samuel
      Harrison , Loe

won't play , Webster bros, Wetzell, Fotu, Delaney
So this will be a stronger team than in the previous window? Chot will have sufficient prep time by then. He will have the UAAP college players and probably most of the PBA guys. So no excuses for Chot if the team doesnt do better.

Thompson looks good to me in this conf. His handles are not Paul Lee level but combined with his athleticism it is enough to make plays in the PBA. He seems to be a better guard than Alas or Montalbo. He should be in the pool. Unlike his previous Gilas stint he is a comfident shooter now. Of course his slashing, passing and rebounding might be challenged internationally but he has earned consideration with his PBA performance.

Yeah, Scottie's making shots off movement now, not just of wide open spot-up shots. He's actually evolved as a playmaker as well. Of course, he's a good defender too. Can stay with his man. As for rebounding, he has a nose for the ball, so even if he's not rebounding, he might get some possessions due to hustle.

He should get consideration from Chot as a PG. Although, he has Kiefer and Bolick to contend with.

              • agree on scottie’s inclusion. gilas coaching staff should consider and reward scottie thompson’s prolific play this season. he’s an improved player now and could be a lockdown defender in the guard position. he will surely bring energy coming from the bench.

Scottie or Jap? Assuming they stick with the 1 player per team scheme

Now that is gonna be a tough choice. Scottie's in his prime and can be a key defender and playmaker. On the other hand, Japeth can provide rim protection and an additional body for bigs.

Depends on the situation. If Kouame's around, I'm taking Scottie. If Clarkson's our NP instead of Japeth, I'm taking Japeth.

1 Player Per Team is a Joke. We are hosting a Fiba WC.
Stop Pba and other local leagues for a month.

But if ever. It would be like this

                      SMB - Junmar or Perez
                      Ginebra - Japeth. Or Scottie
Magnolia -??? Abueva? Sanggalang? Paul Lee?
                      Nlex - Oftana
                      Meralco - Almazan ???
TNT - Pogoy, Troy, Erram (Yes, only team who can break 1 player per team rule. Lol)
                      Phoenix - Wright
                      Northport - Bolick
                      ROS - ???
                      Terrafirma - ???
                      Blackwater - ???
                      Converge - ???

Being the 3rd PG there is not bad. Thompson though is more of a secondary playmaker. But Thompson is a much better player than Alas and Montalbo.

                        • We have to consider Aaron Black. He has been the most consistent guard for Meralco in the finals. He has a low 3 pt release but everything else is textbook about him.

                          • Come Across Again With This Coach Yeng Take on Gilas 2023 WC.

"If we want to assemble the best possible team, The Majority of the team will still come from pba"

"Ang pwede lang naman na pwede natin kunin for 2023, Sila Kai Sotto, Ange Kouame, AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos. Pero di sila Natrain Sa Gilas, Natrain Sila Abroad"

"Kung 15 sila lahat, mga 10 dyan sa Pba. So 66% pa rin galing sa Pba"

Actually I will not be surprised if this will happen.

Non Pba - Ange( Or NP), Kai, AJ, Dwight, ??? (Baltazar, Tamayo, Heading, Parks, Tuffin, Thirdy, Lopez, Caelum etc)

Pba - Kiefer, Bolick, Pogoy, Wright, Oftana, Japeth, Junmar, Troy, Perez, Scottie

Will not be surprised if that will be like that.

Ofc, SBP and Pba would probably want to have tge most representation for 2023 Gilas WC

I identified only 6 current PBA players who in my opinion, have the level, upside and/or track record to compete for a spot in the WC. Those are Bolick, Perez, Scottie, Oftana, Japeth, and June Mar. Didn't include Kiefer because he's not a current PBA player. Problem is, we have Thirdy, Kai, and Dwight as probable shoo-ins.

In contrast, I identified 10 non-PBA players, including Kiefer. They are Heading, Thirdy, Dwight, Navarro, Kouame, Kai, Lebron, Baltazar, and Tamayo. Isama na si Caelum, make it 11. Sila nga ang majority, e. And they will provide us with our needs at SF and PF.

The PBA has to accept that only a handful are fit for FIBA competition, and even less can make the final lineup if based on track record and merit. Pero since they now control who's in the lineup, fuck it, majority will come from there, no matter the fit, position, or track record. My concern is we might be undersized and/or under-talented in the forward positions, both SF and PF if 60+% will come from the PBA.

Babalik ata Kief sa May for Nlex. After B league.

So, Yeah, Pba will be happy for another representation Come 2023.

6-7 pba players I agree can Compete
