Case in point is how they handled Tamayo and Baltazar. They can definitely recruit/pirate those 2 hard, but they know that if they do, other camps will no longer lend their players to the program. So there's a line that they draw there, and its a proof to me that that's not the endgoal there. Saka ano ba mapapala ni MVP sa championships ng Ateneo? Bragging rights? Pfft, too shallow for me, im sure its the same for MVP.
I do think its in direct conflict with the betterment of the Gilas program especially when its someone like Slaughter who Ateneo brought in to play for Gilas daw but hasnt played in anything higher than a SEA games level.

If Ateneo or Chooks in the future uses the Gilas program to recruit other teams and oligarchs will rightly see that program very cynically. Just like what happened with ROS and Paul Lee. Or Rhenz Abando when he said no to San Beda and then wasnt invited to Gilas. Ideally the next oligarch to run Gilas has no conflicts whatsoever.

Also MVP is supporting Ateneo and San Beda for bragging rights, why spend so much money on something without a financial return if not for bragging rights or reputation laundering.

I think it’s more of a recruiting strategy for future Ateneo college ballers.

By establishing the Ateneo basketball program as the most solid in the UAAP, future ballers will realize their marketability in foreign leagues if they play there. Think of it as your starting point that gives you the network to play in the B. League where the pay is 10x better.

      Farm league kumbaga.

Its an outlier for sure but if he produces an outlier performance like this in 2023 maybe we can beat a european team.

Nah. He is a scorer. But he is not a big who can change a defense by his presence alone. He can get 30 or 40 in Fiba but we would still lose.

Yes, in fairness to Ateneo, they did not cross lines by recruiting their non Ateneo players. Of course, getting a better chance to play in the national team is a good come on. However, Ateneo seems to have a stricter than average scholastic program. Perez, Tolentino and others left because academic issues caused them to sit down a season. The other schools never did that.

Poor footwork, can hardly utilise his offhand. Fine, give him a slot in that world cup lineup if he can play as a local. But to utilise that lone NP slot, that's dumb move specially when there's a Clarkson who's willing and available
The guy has not played since July last year. This is the first time he played under Chot and under Chot's system. Give him a break.

I'd rather use the NP slot on another bigman if Kouame isn't a good fit. Clarkson alone isn't gonna win us games. Kai needs a reliever. Giving him more minutes than he can handle increases the chances of him getting injured.

                  • There’s still time to naturalize another player for next year?

do we have anyone in the pipeline in the similar caliber as 2014 Blatche? Brownlee is too old, Terrence Jones and Chris McCullough are a tier lower than 2014 Dray.

I think we still have time to naturalize someone, it takes a lot of political capital though. Or might as well dust up Dray and buy him a treadmill and give him a drill sergeant and a conditioning coach if worse comes to worse

Im giving Chot the benefit of the doubt. Thats why Im waiting for how he will use June Mar. He said himself that he wanted to design more plays for Kouame. If he can do PNRs for June Mar maybe he could do the same for Kouame.

Many athletes recovered from serious ACL injury.. Tell that to Kevin Alas, who already suffered 2 ACL injuries in the past, but still recovered.... I think IBN people here already surrender at AJ's progress, w/c is not in AJ's mind... that's why if i were SBP, I will invite him in 3rd window and give him confidence back.. Even at limited minutes...
AJ has 3 straight knee surgeries IRC. 1 MCL and 2 ACL. I dont think his defense will be as good as before.

usually these type of injuries are career enders, i hope AJ will be able to have a long career despite this setback early in his career

Kai didn't have much practice with the team, only completed his mandatory quarantine in 13th June before the Korea game in 16th June, that's a total of 3 days of practice. Chemistry is such a stupid thing to bring up to justify your hate boner for Kouame.
