I always loved seeing Heading’s offence, dude’s potency on that side is indisputable but watching his T1 games solidified many poster’s doubts about his defence. He gets blown by quite a bit by midget guard types that the likes of Chot likes to employ, too small to defend 6’4+ players etc. He’s quite a liability on defence but when you’re shooting the percentage he did in the OQT against the Serbians and Dominicans it’s quite hard to look over him. Pogoy on the other hand we know he’s mediocre at best against FIBA opponents on both sides of the court.

Another thing: Heading can play both guard positions, which Pogoy cannot. He can moonlight as PG alongside someone like Thirdy and Dwight as his backcourt partner.

However, does he need plays to get himself open, or he can just shoot off kickouts or off pullups?

        • It’s been almost 3yrs and jmf will be inserted in the wcq and world cup line up to play major minutes lol

          Same to japeth.

These two guys were problem at SEA level but they couldn’t have the same game even against elite teams in Asia.

That's similar to the Bulls system. 2 guards (6'6" Lonzo, 6'5" LaVine), 2 wings (6'4" Javonte Green, 6'6" DeRozan), one big (6'11" Vučević) in the starting lineup, and 3 guards (6'6" Lonzo, 6'4" Caruso, 6'5" LaVine), one wing (6'6" DeRozan), one big (6'11" Vučević) in the closing lineup. That's small ball, but the four perimeter players in that lineup can switch, and Lonzo and Caruso are versatile defenders.

This is the kind of small-ball we should be emulating in preparation for the WC. Decently sized players who can switch. Small ball is about versatility now, not just speed.

The thing is .. while we may only use 9 players in the rotation (1 of bigs will hardly get PT) the rest of the 9 players playing 1 to 4 . Are very switchable on defense . Dwight, Clarkson and Thirdy can guard from 1 to 4 spots (not saying full time ..but switch for a second or two.

                GILAS 9 MAN ROTATION

                PG: Kiefer
                SG: JC/ Thirdy
                SF: Ramos/Oftana
                PF: AJ/ Baltazar
                C: Kai/Kouame

                Bench

                PG: Bolick
                PF: Tamayo
                Shooter: Heading

Maybe this lineup can atleast compete in WC.

Though sir analyzed may say this is "asa np/import" style. With 2 NP in JC and Ange.

But I think the Non NP are also capable themselves.

In 2016, both pogoy and rosario were 23-24 yrs old with a world of potential in front of them. 6 years later, both are around 30y/o without any improvements to their game.

In the limited footage ive seen of heading, he looks like an all around shooter, in the sense that he can shoot on the move (relocating or off screens), stationary, and even off the dribble. Otoh, his limitations when it comes to his PG-skills is his playmaking and vision.

Id replace fajardo with another tall wing in your rotation. Any of paras/navarro/oftana or even adams. Malonzo is ideal if we can have him exempted a la Slaughter.

our cadets are effing old, 23-24 should be the start of the prime years, yet they were treated as rookies..I think both Troy and RR are already in decline now..we need to move on from this 2 failed experiments

JMF did well enough in our 2019 qualifiers against Taiwan and Quincy Davis and in the 2nd Kazakhstan game when Dray got in foul trouble. On offense, that is.

We should retire the "cadets" term. Only purpose was to tag players and tell them you won't get on the main seniors team because PBA players get seniority over you. Romeo and Ravena were roughly the same age, but because Romeo was in the PBA he was not tagged as a "cadet".

Well Taiwan and Davis isn't exactly a good Barometer.. if I were to take a guess he's probably worse now than the Junemar we had at the last WC. Sure I'd love to have him if we're really desperate but I'd rather look for a long term replacement

against elite teams in Asia. just like iran, he had difficulty playing against iranian bigs.
