Full Force and Healthy? I think so.

Japan - With Hachimura, watanabe, and a capable np.

China - is always a threat

Philippines - I think so. We are a liitle on decline, but iran too. Lost to syria and just recently to another middle east team (I forgot)

I think Gilas and Iran are neck and neck for that 3rd prediction level.

I take Gilas over Iran just because of the homecourt advantage and draw advantage.

      • Jordan?

        Not too familiar with them.

Are they in a positive trend?

          They're holding on.

They have good guards like Abu Hawwas and Freddy Ibrahim.

They have a problem though as their star big man, Al-Dwairi, is nearing his 30s and has no successor. They're simply a very different team without him, which is why they had to call Zaid Abbas out of retirement as well as Dar Tucker who is already 33 in the recent qualifying window.

No way they were beating Lebanon without Z. Abbas and Dar Tucker.

From what i remember, Junmar, despite the limited minutes and role, was very efficient. Buoy, he was a problem for those Senegalese bigs.

To me, it was the preparation. It was a pretty well prepared squad albeit Andray joining late. And if things go Chot's way, we could have an even better prepared team with better players, at least, on paper. Perez could be an upgrade from Castro, Bollick for Jimmy, Oftana could be a huge upgrade from a Jeff Chan, Ramos from a Dalistan, Sotto from a Fajardo, Aj from a De Ocampo. Add to those Baltazar and Tamayo and then Clarkson. If he gets even more lucky with either Clarkson or Kouame getting recognised by FIBA as a local, add the latter to that lineup, and that's a very tall yet mobile lineup all across. And that's also a very young lineup, you could field that very lineup the next world cup. Well, i hope Chot goes that direction. He did mention Baltazar, Tamayo, Ramos (also thirdy), kai of course, Aj Edu, Bollick. Have not heard him mention Perez and Oftana though
I think a guy like Heading could be more apt for Chan, who by the way was also good in FIBA tournaments. Both are designated shooters, and so far have had a good FIBA track record.

Now as for Oftana, I think it's the first time I've seen someone like him. A 6'5" SF who could shoot, handle, and drive a bit, and also defend the perimeter. In a sense, his kind is a new addition to the Gilas pool. Not hearing Chot mention Oftana is kinda worrisome, because we need length for the 3-spot, which Oftana can provide. I just hope he makes the final pool.

yes, expectation is 5th to 7th, if a mercenary NP is not available. Chot has not won against strong M.E. teams dating back to Fiba-Asia 2007 Jordan and Iran in the Group of Death. The latest (without NP) was Fiba Asia Cup 2017 in the loss to Lebanon (which was a blowout).

it is expected of Chot to use a lineup similar to the 2017 Fiba Asia Cup team (hugot from PBA).

yes, no complaining since that's the expectation. i hope to be surprised though that Chot pulls all the stops to have Kai, Kiefer available, maybe a new Fil-Am find in the tradition of Kelly, Gabe and Ganuelas-Rosser, or even get the PBA nod for Japeth or Junemar.

let's see in Fiba Asia Cup 2021/22 in June. if Gilas does really bad, tournament format shows there is even a sudden death to enter quarterfinals, my expectation is Chot should resign.

Don't worry, Pogoy will handle that position and guard people like Giannis, Luka, Harden, and Klay and make all score only 2 points because of his intergalactic-level defense according to Chot. hahahahaha

                  • The thing with Pogoy is he is PG size internationally (size of NZ Britt), but has terrible limited handles and no playmaking.
Essentially he's a SF in skill set in a FIBA PGs body
In FEU he even played 4

Lesson, you can always train a player late to shoot well, but you can't teach a player late to gain foot speed , handles and playmaking

And we still hear his name being mentioned as a viable World's player. He is a walking hole in the Gilas defense at the World level. Expect him to be raped by the World-level forwards. Maybe we should have Chot checked for Alzheimer's.

All that screaming and flag waving only to get raped 17 by an Asian team lol. All while you have the PBA's full firepower at your disposal and the liberty to use your favorite 3 guard lineup. I project if Chot handles Gilas for 5 straight years we would be taken over by Indonesia and Japan would be like an Australia-level opponent to Gilas. Shame, would've loved to see Pogoy and Wright guarding the likes of Hachimura and Hyunjung Lee, those would've been great matchups.

Yes, Pogoy will shut down Hachimura and make him quit the NBA because of the trauma. He will just sell tofu on the streets of Tokyo since his psyche will be shattered. Hyunjung Lee will also be shut down by Pogoy and he will just join a K-Pop group. Eventually, he will be arrested for drunk driving and property damage when he drives his car through Korea's subway system. Two lives shattered by the great RR Pogoy, the super secret weapon of Chot Reyes. haha

                          • LOL. poor pogoy and wright. They are now the hot names here in ibn.

But yeah, I agree. I always included them in my expected pool because u know coach chot and pba.

Most logical pba player to play as a wing for Gilas is Calvin Oftana. He has size, and played all his pba career as a Wing/Perimeter Player.

If eligible, I will also pick Roosevelt Adams over them due to size and international experience.

For non pba, Dwight and maybe Navarro are the candidates. Lopez sana, but we know how coach chot handled him last window. (I know ibners wanted Dwight to play as PG, I doubt it now, he will play most as SF imo)

Isnt it the same case with Thirdy in a lesser extent.

I know Thirdy have better length and athleticism.

But is he good enough to play like PG? I feel his skillset is SF too. He is not like his Kuya Kiefer in terms of handling and playmaking

What is even Thirdy's real Height, Is that 6'3 Height measurement by b league accurate?

Having said that, For me thirdy should be in the pool based on his performance on fiba windows he joined

                              • For continuity, it should have been Jong Uichico over Reyes. Jong has been a very able assistant to Tab and has a credible international record. If not for that Lee Sang Min shot, Jong would have at least tasted silver in the Asian games. Jong knows how to shuffle his players well and is not prone to getting technicals from FIBA refs unlike Chot.
