BTW, I think at that time Alapag, Castro & Tenorio could be starting point guards of other teams. I think in that time Gilas had the best point guards in the tournament.
Castro waa better than Kamrani at that time. Alapag was already setting for outside shots and close to retiring. Tenorio was feast or famine every game like Japeth which drove me crazy cause he was so good when he played during the Jones' cup.

It forced you to really use your head since you had to keep track of everyone’s position and based on how they are moving where they are probably going to go, also you had to use peripheral vision and you were constantly turning your head and looking around. With basketball it was easier to keep track of everyone since the court was much narrower and shorter and unlike in soccer everyone is on one side of the court usually at a time. These kind of skills transferred I think over to basketball, court vision, spatial awareness, passing/ seeing passing lanes
Exactly..that is why I think we could adapt somehow some football training to those aspiring ballers who wants to be on the next level just like the Argentinians, but if the kid are not that motivated or lazy enough to sweat it out and do some cross training under the scorching heat of the sun especially in the early morning dew on a football field to develop certain skills set that he/she may apply as a baller moving forward and just contended hs/her training solely inside the hardcourt then this dream to have our own version of a Facundo Campazzo will never happen on a local settings.

too bad filipino kids would rather dribble dribble dribble, shamgod, crossover etc rather than develop those skills that you mentioned, heck our kids would not even take cardio training seriously

What are you taking? I would like to have some of that. Padrigao is everything a point guard should not be. Every team where Padrigao joins starts losing.

Pinoy ballers are very much fascinated and enamored wih NBA's top 10 play of Week hence mimicking or imitating what they've saw in the television screen will surely be applied once they've step up inside the open basketball court in the community. We all know that majority of our players doesn't had the basic fundamentals playing basketball in a training camp setup during their childhood years, only the small percentage of the kids had an access or privilege on such thing especially kids from the provinces across the country and majority of the poor area within the greater manila area wherein streeballing or street basketball is the name of the game.

It needs to be a cross between both, I think creativity comes from playing in street ball and copying nba players\ experimenting. Compared to the other Asian countries it has resulted in unique players and skills which makes it tougher to guard against. But also there they need to master fundamentals as well to actually be able do what nba players have done since most of them had to master the fundamentals before they could do what they did. When you have both then we have a really good player

Plus our local coaches are lagging behind in the coaching department wherein they implement more of NBA style basketball (the best player always have the ball and will create through dribble drive)

He might have meant that only Padrigao has the balls to throw risky passes. Well for me 2 points is 2 points mo matter how fancy it might look..

I really meant the creativity he has, when he’s creating for others the way he manipulates defenders at times and makes the defense do what he wants. I’m not blind to his weaknesses as well, high TO, tendency to force shots and take bad shots. That’s why I hope coach Tab teaches him the right way to play

                        • Padrigao should stay in Ateneo so UP can finally win another championship. Then he should meet Ogie Diaz so he can join Pinoy Big Brother and become a channel 2 talent. Anything to keep that guy away from Gilas, please.
