coach Steve Kerr already mention on several interview that most probably that Paris Olympics will be his last dance to mentored Uncle Sam's team

because he is just following that two year cycle that Coach Pop started in 2019 WC and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

followed by CSK in 2023 WC and 2024 Paris Olympics

now that the 2 yr cycle are over it's either coach Spo or coach Lue will inherit that baton.

we as a Gilas fan, whether we like it or not Coach Spo will be the next in line because he is ahead of CTL as far as Team USA coaching staff are concern

Methinks USA Basketball is adopting a wait-and-see attitude towards Mandaquit before deciding to release him to the SBP. The kid is still growing and developing his skills.

JJ will be in the country for a second time to play basketball, he knows how big it is locally. He acquired a passport.

Of course he's aware that anytime he wants to, the national program will welcome him with open arms.

Priority for him now is to make the NBA, so that means do well in D1. He's very far from becoming a US men's prospect, but there's still a chance. It'll be clearer once he plays college games. We just have to be patient and wish the best for him because he has been positive towards the country.

He's a throwback solid PG ala-Stockton and will be a force in the Asian level.

like I said, i wont dispute. However, we are all assuming that if SBP talks to his camp, the word will come out and it will all be in socmed. SBP may not have ben doing things that fans like, but they are adults. mature or immature, isang tabi muna yan. as adults they know they can be rejected. but at the same breath, they can talk to his camp and not let anyone else aside from the top management about what happened.

honestly, Gilas has no prob on the JJ kid despite playing on Uncle Sam's under team before

he already mentioned several time on an online interview that he is willing to play for Gilas and

that time he and his circles are not yet aware of the FIBA playbook on exemptions.

but now majority of us are all educated on those provisions.

in fact in few weeks time he will come over for the second time to play for these

edition of the NBTC Manila Live games alongside another D1 prospect Lino Marks

I think James Sanderson will also be part of that huge entourage composed of 45 teams

from the US alone.

i hear you and do not dispute. however, i dont see any harm in asking. harrasing for an answer is not the way to go. but reaching out and letting him know he is wanted should be good foundation for the future. if he says no now, atleast he know Gilas is behind him. if he surprise us and says yes but he wants to concentrate with getting into the NBA, e di wow.

No, this is not the good timing to lure JJ into playing for us. Guy's career is just starting.

Pretty sure he still tryna play for US in the future, it will just depend on his career trajectory.

When he becomes a journeyman, or an NBA player who's not good enough for the USA team, that is where the SBP should offer him a Gilas stint.

As much as we hate it, we have to accept that we are the 2nd option for them fil-ams. But we should gladly take it.

As of now, he will be on his first year in college, who knows, he might have a breakout year in Washington for him to be a one and done prospect.

Even if Mandaquit had already played for team USA junior teams in the FIBA U-16/17 competitions, under FIBA rules he can still play for the Philippine national senior team provided that he gets clearance from USA basketball federation. Even if Mandaquit was good enough to make it to the USA U-16/17 final 12-man roster, he's far from being among the team's most outstanding performers. He's no Jalen Green as far as stints with USA junior national teams. So even if for instance Mandaquit makes it to the NBA, I don't think he will be good enough to even get an invite for an NBA-select USA national team. There's just a lot of much mzuch better point guards than him in the NBA.

As skilled & athletic a point guard Trae Young is, he has yet to play for team USA senior team. I think there's just a lot of very good point guards in the US. The competition is just too much. I think JJ Mandaquit & his handlers know this that is why JJ expressed interest to play for Gilas. He knows that his chances of playing for an NBA-select US national team is very slim.

So I think SBP will not encounter problem seeking USA Basketball or USAB (the basketball federation of the US) clearance for JJ Mandaquit to play for Gilas.

Our grassroots seriously need to consider lowering the rim for youth games.

In Europe, I believe 13 yr old and below play in a lowered 9-foot rim (even Wemby did). It's to ensure that kids can concentrate on having the correct shooting stroke/motion. When a kid does not have enough strength to shoot, he develops bad habits like heaving, slinging or shooting the ball from a low point.

Pinoy kids are even smaller and weaker. Kids either get discouraged from becoming shooters or they develop bad form starting from a young age.
