I do hope I'm wrong
but with the unfolding on many things on the road on 2027 FIBA WC
coach Steve Kerr already mention on several interview that most probably that Paris Olympics will be his last dance to mentored Uncle Sam's team
because he is just following that two year cycle that Coach Pop started in 2019 WC and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
followed by CSK in 2023 WC and 2024 Paris Olympics
now that the 2 yr cycle are over it's either coach Spo or coach Lue will inherit that baton.
we as a Gilas fan, whether we like it or not Coach Spo will be the next in line because he is ahead of CTL as far as Team USA coaching staff are concern
and that's okay for me, "I'd be willing to do anything for USA Basketball, You don't want to miss out on those experiences. And I would do any roles", said Spoelstra, 54
we do hope we could tap his services in preparation for the 20231 WC instead where were expecting that a new sets of basketball leaders
will be handling the program on those days, stakeholders who are true blue student of the game and a visionary.(wishful thinking)
now as for the possible inclusion of Jalen Green in the senior of Team USA
I already mentioned this many times, it's really a long shot to be honest.
if Coach Spo is really the next in line, well we all know the basketball philosophy of dude.
I'm specifically talking about the back court culture.
guys like Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, Caleb Martin before
now with Haywood Highsmith, Alecs Burk, Pelle Larson, Andrew Wiggins, Triple J 11, Keshad Johnson
those ballers are well known for being a 2-way dudes, hustle guys, who are well known for being a role players in the backcourt
Jordan Clarkson and Jalen Green offensive skillsets are top level no argument on that but I'm talking about defense on this.
in fact, idol Grant Hill mentioned during the recent All-Star festivities that some of the young guns who participated for that edition
would probably be involve for a possible invitation in the future,
well Jalen Green was not in the All-Star
as per other remarks from the other sources, "the roster that(will) represents the U.S. in Qatar in 2027 will probably be quite different
from the roster from the Olympics. The World Cup team will comprise of younger, rising stars.
there you go.

Speaking of JJ, anybody knows if he is really pure blooded filo as they say? His surname says so, and also his physical features.
Although having a malay features seems to be common for a hawaiian so not really sure.
I mean Hepa really looks filipino to me.
Because if he is indeed pure blooded and got drafted we might already have to check the "having a first pure blooded filipino to be drafted in NBA" in list.

Methinks USA Basketball is adopting a wait-and-see attitude towards Mandaquit before deciding to release him to the SBP. The kid is still growing and developing his skills.

JJ will be in the country for a second time to play basketball, he knows how big it is locally. He acquired a passport.
Of course he's aware that anytime he wants to, the national program will welcome him with open arms.
Priority for him now is to make the NBA, so that means do well in D1. He's very far from becoming a US men's prospect, but there's still a chance. It'll be clearer once he plays college games. We just have to be patient and wish the best for him because he has been positive towards the country.
He's a throwback solid PG ala-Stockton and will be a force in the Asian level.

It would be different with Jalen rejecting the Gilas because we all now Jalen has a shot on that US senior team, whereas JJ has slim to none at all. Thus basketball crazy fans will assume JJ thinks of himself highly, hating him for that.
That reason alone would be a factor to make him uninterested playing for Gilas. As much as pinoy fans pours their love to the player, it has all the same level on hating.
Hell, Mikey Williams is still suffering from those Moon comments, though the hate is valid, XD.
It just shows the toxicity of fans whenever a player rejects to play for Gilas.
if SBP doesnt want to, ok lng din.

honestly, Gilas has no prob on the JJ kid despite playing on Uncle Sam's under team before
he already mentioned several time on an online interview that he is willing to play for Gilas and
that time he and his circles are not yet aware of the FIBA playbook on exemptions.
but now majority of us are all educated on those provisions.
in fact in few weeks time he will come over for the second time to play for these
edition of the NBTC Manila Live games alongside another D1 prospect Lino Marks
I think James Sanderson will also be part of that huge entourage composed of 45 teams
from the US alone.
I do hope coach Tinyente and Grandpa Chualay had a chance to talk to those hafu kids.
basta all I know is there's a lot of new discoveries that will come over aside from those who played last year.
and one of those kid that already mentioned was All-American Puff Morris

It is okay to take it easy with JJ, if he somehow manage to get into US Senior so be it.
I hope people won't forget that we have a legit D1 player who was supposedly going to play for the 2024 U17 team.
James Sanderson.
3-star 6'2 PG as of now in the US, 2008-born.
We might see him next year for the U18 batch and hopefully in the Seniors.
Guys is literally showing off in IG how he really wants to play for the Natl team.

Yeah, if for instance SBP will ask Mandaquit to commit to Gilas any time soon & Mandaquit sort of turn it down for the moment as he wants to focus for the meantime on his NBA dream, he might get a backlash from vicious Pinoy basketball fans & in turn ma turnoff pa sya sa atin & baka hindi nalang sya lalaro ever for Gilas.
Filipino fans always lack context, they love to make action without understanding the whole scenario, lol.
Best example for this is Sage Tolentino's concern. He did reject to play for Gilas (or his parents), but whenever there are post about him, peenoise would keep commenting about how he turned down playing for Gilas.
The kid was just minor that time, he did not have able to decide for himself on what will be the best long run, I really think the fault was on the parents.
He still recognizing his filipino descent right now, showing he might really wanna play that time he was offered for the youth team.

Maybe after he finished his college basketball SBP can resume in luring him to Gilas. No rush as he has Philippine passport…

Pretty sure he still tryna play for US in the future, it will just depend on his career trajectory.
When he becomes a journeyman, or an NBA player who's not good enough for the USA team, that is where the SBP should offer him a Gilas stint.
As much as we hate it, we have to accept that we are the 2nd option for them fil-ams. But we should gladly take it.
As of now, he will be on his first year in college, who knows, he might have a breakout year in Washington for him to be a one and done prospect.
In short, namamag-asa pa yan mag US team, most likley if nag-offer yung SBP ngayon, irereject nya because he might still hoping for a US senior stint, knowing his career is just starting. Him rejecting the SBP right now will be a bad sight to see.
It is much better for SBP to offer him a Gilas stint when that US stint won't be possible anymore because that is where he has no choice but to play for us (assuming he is interested that time).
JJ is just there anyway, no other country will try to get him beside us if he won't be a US senior team caliber-type of player.
Although him playing for US senior team is not impossible IMO. You got guys like Derrick White (who belonged to the Avengers team), Mikal Bridges (who played in the WC team) who got to the US team despite not being a superstar but a solid role player, which JJ would be most likely at best.

I just hope SBP people would get in touch with JJ Mandaquit or his handlers ASAP before this kid climbs into the NBA. Pag nagka ganoon ay mahihirapan na tayong e convince him to play for Gilas senior team.
Even if Mandaquit had already played for team USA junior teams in the FIBA U-16/17 competitions, under FIBA rules he can still play for the Philippine national senior team provided that he gets clearance from USA basketball federation. Even if Mandaquit was good enough to make it to the USA U-16/17 final 12-man roster, he's far from being among the team's most outstanding performers. He's no Jalen Green as far as stints with USA junior national teams. So even if for instance Mandaquit makes it to the NBA, I don't think he will be good enough to even get an invite for an NBA-select USA national team. There's just a lot of much mzuch better point guards than him in the NBA.
As skilled & athletic a point guard Trae Young is, he has yet to play for team USA senior team. I think there's just a lot of very good point guards in the US. The competition is just too much. I think JJ Mandaquit & his handlers know this that is why JJ expressed interest to play for Gilas. He knows that his chances of playing for an NBA-select US national team is very slim.
So I think SBP will not encounter problem seeking USA Basketball or USAB (the basketball federation of the US) clearance for JJ Mandaquit to play for Gilas.

Our grassroots seriously need to consider lowering the rim for youth games.
In Europe, I believe 13 yr old and below play in a lowered 9-foot rim (even Wemby did). It's to ensure that kids can concentrate on having the correct shooting stroke/motion. When a kid does not have enough strength to shoot, he develops bad habits like heaving, slinging or shooting the ball from a low point.
Pinoy kids are even smaller and weaker. Kids either get discouraged from becoming shooters or they develop bad form starting from a young age.
