Hope he won't end up as another "sayang" national team prospect. Mukhang maganda pa naman ang potential nya.
    Like Jayden Harper right?

Jayden got his passport when he was 17 years old, IIRC. Maybe he can be an exemption in the future if he plays here.

Well, at least with Jayden Harper, he got his Phi passport a year after his 16th birthday. Yung mas masakit kasi is when someone got his Phi passport a few weeks or even some days after his 16th birthday.

Lol yeah, imagine getting your passport the day after your 16th birthday, basically missing out on those handful of opportunities starting with playing for Gilas then follows with being able to play as an asian import in japan and other countries.

Basically the best fallback if NBA won't pan out. Imagine the likes of Balunggay, Lucero, and maybe QMB will get to play in the BLeague had they gotten their ph passport before 16. Now they are stuck with the oldest yet childish pro league in asia.

though nonetheless getting it a year or a day after 16th birthday both still stings as it would have the same result of being ineligible anyway

I'm not totally sure about this but I think it's the date when you applied for a passport that is considered and not the date when you get it,

That's what D'Admiral/analyzed was saying a few years ago. But then, if I'm not mistaken, Remy Martin was said to have applied for Philippine passport prior to his 16th birthday, and such passport was issued to him after his 16th birthday. Yet Remy Martin isn't FIBA-eligible.

                • its the date when you get it is the basis, because that is technically the date in the passport itself where it states when it was issued

Nice. Now we can focus on how good he is.

Maybe Ballungay is not the best Kainoa

Maybe Patton is the best Kainoa after all. Hehe

He is a Combo Guard right?Maybe can play some SF if he grow taller.

Completed his application for Phi passport means he has complied with all the requirements, right?

Hope the processing of his passport would take no more than 1 month & it would be issued to him by early next month.

                      • There's also that 6-foot-2/6-foot-3 Fil-Italian kid who is already a FIBA-eligible player playing in the NBTC. I wonder how he performed in the NBTC?

                        • Good thing they did the application here, would roughly might take 2 - 3 weeks if everything runs smoothly. If they tried the rush passport process aka the expedite process, it might only take 1 week.

Is it safe to assume that he applied for a passport at a local DFA office? Should that mean that it will practically speed up the process? Because he only got roughly 2 months left to acquire his passport, just in time for the Fiba Asia U16 cup.

is there a big difference where you lodge your application? here in Sydney, it takes less than 2 months. worst case can happen is if there is failure in delivery, but that shouldnt take you more than 2 months usually. i would think it would be same for Kai. he lodge in the country(RP), but he will back in the US when it gets released. so it'll should still be less than 2 months unless problems with the delivery of the physical passport.

caveat, I am assuming he got all his docs in and none of his parents need to reacquire their Filipino citizenship. i dont know if that will add with the wait time.

                              * I just checked and Melbourne takes 1-2 weeks longer. I have relatives in NY and Toronto, and a quick check has them same time as Sydney.
BUT there is an Expedited Processing in Manila. but thats for the review. it didnt say anything about the release.

I would like to think that Kainoa Patton's mother is still a Filipino citizen (assuming she's no longer a Filipino citizen at present) at the time of Kainoa's birth. That makes Kainoa a legit Filipino citizen under the Philippine citizenship law (jus sanguinis). With that, I think there won't be much of scrutiny & evaluation in Kainoa's application for Phi passport.

I don't know, please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
