  • For SJ to make it to Gilas, I'm thinking he has to be at least at the level of Tab's idealized version of Terrence Romeo.

    • I see SJ Belangel displacing Matt Nieto in 2 years time for a spot in the 2023 FIBA World Cup-bound Gilas team. I think yung lamang lang ni Matt Nieto over Belangel at present are maturity & experience. But in 2 years time, as Belangel gains more experience & maturity and as he gets more accustomed to coach Tab's system, I think mawawala na yung advantages ni Matt Nieto.

I believe Belangel is the more skilled point guard than Matt.

If we're talking about 2023 WC not just being part of Gilas pool, and Kiefer get's enough exposure with Tab's Gilas teams, I don't think there actually is a spot for either Matt and SJ. with Kiefer and 1GDL , being the main PG's . the 3rd PG is someone who can play the wing position and play spot minutes at PG as necessary.

But I think if we're talking about a "pool" with lets say 18 to 24 players, then having 3 or even 4 natural point guards therein would be ideal.

          • So there, the UAAP season's cancelled. Most of the cadets (and prospects) are from those schools.

Something has to be done about the development of the younger ones.

As for the older players, some should probably take the route Thirdy and Tungcab took. Baltazar, Navarro, probably Kobe come to mind. Hope Shaun can consider that route as well to develop his game.

It really unfortunate what happened to Kiefer. In the past everyone wants him to be part of the national team even in his highschool years. He is also one of my favorite players and i saw him as a future star in Philippine basketball after being name mythical five in Fiba Asia youth. I think the Dirk drink issue and suspension has affected his game so much that he regress. And he is not in proper shape, he is really confuse on how to build his body right now. Now he is to heavy and slow due too, to much muscle that looks like he is a power forward.

I think he’s probably plateaued, he’s already 27, probably almost entering his prime years. Not really much room for growth

Kiefer is just living up to my expectation. I mean, I've never expected Kiefer to be in the same class as a Jayson Castro or a Jimmy Alapag or a Johnny Abarrientos, but I think we can't deny that after Castro, Kiefer is the next best point guard in Phi baskrtball at present with Robert Bolick not far behind. The thing about Kiefer is that he's a good size point guard that it won't be a mismatch if you play him against 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3 point guards.

Agree with U about Kiefer's physique/weight. If you're a 5-foot-11 point guard & your biceps are as broad as those of Asi Taulava's, then there must be something wrong.

Yeah, he will have to strike a balance. It's good that he can be strong enough to guard bigger guards, but he should be fast enough to guard quicker players as well. He should use Sol Mercado as an example.

One upside I see in Kiefer is his defense. He's really a good defender, something Castro, Alapag & Paul Lee aren't/wasn't.

If the Dirk issue did not happen he could had been a ROY, and the next year an MVP candidate and a national team star. But he is unfortunate victim of his mistake. But he is still young, 27 is still young. He just need a good team and a good break.

Well as long as Tab envisions him to be our lead guard it doesn't matter what the casual fans think. I mean look at their comments (dribble, birdie, positive etc). Talagang hate comments lang na sa bibig lang ng isang skwater manggagaling.

Kiefer can play, as long as he is healthy he is good enough to be our lead PG this 2023. Plus MVP loves this kid, bata niya yan since HS. He'll promote and take care of him just like Alapag and Castro.

                          • Mvp loves kiefer???? Bata niya iyan?

Sounds like total and unearned favoritism to me. And he is not a kid anymore. Are you kiefer or his best friend?

One would expect that kiefer is claimed to be good because he matches up well with recent starters like sk's heo and doo, aus sobey and cadee, or nz ili and rangi.

In other words, shouldnt the claimed nt players have videos demonstrating how they can match or exceed asia's best? I watch jalen's or kuminga's video, and i -- and probably a lot more -- can see evidence that sk guards and wings cant stop them.

I dont see any kiefer video showing he is asian or higher level. The best ateneo player --ramos -- hasnt even played for ateneo yet.

                            • I am really not a fan if kiefer. (Silent killer will call me out again)

As we can see last world cup, he overdribbles and sometimes ballhog. All of us will agree Cj and robert have better perf than kiefer.

I know the drunking issue. But Still.

Having said that, he have a good showing/maturity after that world cup. And played great in pba.

Maybe we can try him in Fiba Asia Cup. Then we can judge if he can really lead guard or not
