But they are not as big as the rivalries between Notre Dame and USC (formerly Methodist) and Notre Dame and BYU (Mormons).

It would be interesting to see if the California schools in question include St Mary's, a Lasallian school and alma mater of Ali Peek and Scuba Holt.

Thanks for the info. I think the most well known Jesuit school in the NCAA with a strong basketball tradition is Gonzaga, right?
The original Big East conference was known to be the bailiwick of East Coast based Catholic universities, who all have strong basketball programs and weak in all other major sports. These are the so-called Catholic 7, which include Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Marquette and DePaul.

Georgetown is traditionally the Jesuit big man factory, while Gonzaga specializes in wingmen and guards. Among Georgetown's products are Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, and Greg Monroe. Allen Iverson is also a Hoya alumnus. Gonzaga produced Adam Morrison, while Dwyane Wade is a Marquette product.

      • I don't know if this is really the right thread, but I just want to voice out my disappointment on Kiefer's "pa-star" attitude. for the longest time I have been a believer of him and that he's worthy of his monicker "the phenom". its only now that i have realized that there is nothing phenomenal that he has done (well maybe except for some of his stints for our youth team). I think the media hyped that was given to him specially by abs-cbn has gotten to his head. I watched his interview (there goes the hyped again) in anc, and he doesnt even have the definite plan yet for basketball. he always say his dream is to play in the pros and yet he did not join pba d-league draft this year which we all know is pre-requisite if he wants to join the pba draft next year.could be that he's hesitant to join next years draft not until mvp teams could secure high picks which i think now is mostly on the smc teams. but why cant he just play in the d-league. prove yourself againts the best amateurs first before even thinking about the PBA and NBA (i think i heard him mentioned this on the interview). and please stop being so showbiz

I remember a draft rule that exempts former national players or Fil-Am ABL players from the D-League requirement. This was applied to Slaughter, Melton, Pringle, etc. and can also be applied to Ravena as he had already played in the SEA Games team.

stated in the wiki dont know if this is true

but i didnt know that 7 games in 1 conference for a pure filipino will do. i thought its 1 season. i think there still another conference before the pba draft but im not sure though if there will be draft or if he could play even if he's not drafted. not sure also if his stint with sinag will count as mens national basketball team stint (or this should be with gilas only). just the same i really wanna see him play first againts the best amateurs. and oh before i forgot, manny pacquiao ignore this eligibility rules

for filam its different. pringle was exempted to that rule mainly because of his age.

I wouldn't be surprised if AVO starts practicing with Gilas as well.

Isn't he innactive, AVO might no longer be in the state of mind to be described as even as a basketball player anymore.

                            • Jonathan Grey, 6'4" former CSB Shooting Guard, He was about to apply to join this year's PBA draft but he was considered ineligible by the PBA as he haven't played in the PBA D-league yet.

                              • OT: Kudos to FEU's great scouting ability.

Unlike some schools that steal players in the National Pool, or simply uses their misplaced pride to attract talent, FEU actually does the leg work ever since.
Ateneo, I can't fault because other than using its wonderful name to attract talents, it actually copied FEU's recruiting system.. hence the reason they are really successful. Imagine using fame, money, and actual scouting to your advantage and you really get most of the best talent.

this makes it even more better, why FEU is the best scouting school in the country.. Despite disadvantages they still get to be so very competititve. Imagine -- FEU doesn't have the fame... Ateneo, La Salle, and UST have that... and I can fully assume that they don't have the money like the first three... + NU, yet, FEU continuous to be very competitive in the college ball scene.

Another reason why they remain as that is because, competition in FEU is too fierce.. and if you prove yourself enough they actually develop those players.. Well, at least more than how the first 4 schools develop their own talent.. because of this, you can see many FEU players that are having good carreers in the PBA. and this is a school that is lacking in any of what can make it as competitive as the other schools (money, and fame)

                                Congrats FEU!!!!
