Please note unlike the PBA and NBA, the CBA does not do guaranteed contracts wherein the player gets paid every month even if he is not playing or the league is off-season, in the CBA the contract is as good only as the tournament is on-going or is terminated by the team.
IF ever he is terminated... Bowles is a good player and his team Jilin is waaay better than Foshan.

That's because Douthit's team is the worst team in the CBA. Jilin (Bowles' team) is a playoff contender. If he performs well and carries Jilin to the playoffs then it's highly unlikely that he'll be released unless what sir Nardy said above happens.

LOLOLOL I don't love foreigners. And I am amazed by your "patriotism".
I want the PBA opened to foreigners year-round to increase the level of competition. Simple as that.
Open player policy or let PBA teams compete in the ABL and the FIBA Champions Cup. Look at WABA. That's how they sharpen their NT players. We are not the NBA. (And even the NBA plays preseason games against Euroleague squads). If PBA owners keep thinking (and acting) like NBA owners, I think our Asian frustration will persist.

          • AKTV TAKES PBA COVERAGE UP ANOTHER LEVEL

MACAU. – TV5 is taking on an expanded role to help the PBA and its players reach out to more fans and further expand gross sales while boosting its own drive to recoup its huge investment.

Bobby Barreiro, the chief operating officer and executive vice president of TV5, on Saturday said the network is committed to further stoke fan interest, giving them a more personal and up-close look at the league and their favorite players.

"We want to get more fans involved, more engaged in the PBA, especially with their favorite players," Barreiro said as he outlined the general thrust the network is taking for the PBA's 38th season set to start on Sept. 30.

"The games have become more exciting with the improved brand of play and our role is to communicate that to the public," added Barreiro.

The coming season marks the second year of TV5's five-year contract worth close to P1 billion to air the games, almost P700 million of it in cash.

The network had a big hand in the success of the league's recent banner season that generated more than P100 million in record gross sales and this contribution was lauded by no less than the PBA Board and Commissioner Chito Salud.

Following TV5's initial airing of the games through AKTV, the average audience share for the in Mega Manila was 9.2 percent, up from 6.8 percent the previous season. That was highlighted by a 27.4 percent rating during overtime of the Commissioner's Cup finals deciding game between eventual
champion B-Meg and Talk N Text.
            ---

Not bad for a league losing interest, eh?

            • Toroman Or Olsen For Ato
              By WAYLON GALVEZ

              August 13, 2012, 7:09pm
Petron Blaze is set for a coaching change with former Smart-Gilas Pilipinas Serbian coach Rajko Toroman or ex-pro Olsen Racela possibly taking over the coaching chores starting next conference.

Even after the Boosters finished their campaign in the Governors’ Cup, there were already talks that coach Ato Agustin is on his way out with either Toroman or Racela taking the place of the former 1989 PBA Most Valuable Player.

A league source, however, mentioned that Petron is leaning toward Toroman, who handled the national team from September 2009 until September 2011, leading Gilas to a fourth-placed finish in the FIBA-Asia Championship in Wuhan, China.

Though he wasn’t renewed by Smart to handle the Gilas II program, Toroman joined the San Miguel Corp. (SMC) as consultant of its four ball clubs, three in the PBA – Ginebra, Petron and B-Meg – and its ABL team San Miguel Beermen.
What about both? Toroman heads and Olsen assists? i like Racela's potential as mentor but do think he's still too young.

if Petron is a team whose majority is made-up of young up-and-coming stars, Toroman could be a good fit however his Eastern European ways might not be the kind of treatment the veteran superstars could adjust to and tolerate. It could possibly implode on Olsen it is also a high risk, I do remember when Jaworski was appointed as playing coach, a number of his buddies who at first even made ways to join him at Ginebra are the ones to rebel against him. It turned out they had a hard time adjusting from a Jaworski who is their co-player and buddy to Jaworski as the disciplinarian coach.

So its really a tough call between Rajko and Olsen. But in order to keep the SMB tradition of Ron Jacobs style with regards to basketball, Racela would be a good gamble. But if Eala does want to start a change on how basketball should now be played, Toroman and his European style would be it.

The choice of the #3 draft pick would now change with Ato out who was expected to pick Calvin Abueva if he is not picked by Alaska. With Toroman, it would be no surprise if he would pick Chris Tiu. But if its Racela, it is hard to decipher on which player he would must like pick-up if ever, but him being a role player I am guessing he'll get either Dave Marcelo, Vic Manuel or Alex Mallari. Chris Ellis would have been a good choice but the current player make-up of Petron shows there's no room for a player of his mold.

It's BPA or Chris Tiu. That's the only logical thing to do. And come on Nardy, let's stop pretending Dave Marcelo is going to be more than a scrub in this league.

If those rumors (Euroleague) are legit then he should go there, better for Philippines basketball overall and it's not like Petron is short in talent. i doubt the rumors are true however.

Sorry Nards. My best reading is that Noli Eala is taking away the Ron Jacobs system from the conglomerate and putting in his own basketball ideology. A principle that will be espoused by Rajko Toroman and no one else. I subscribe to DT's theory that Racela's lack of experience would push him back to assistant coach, especially since it would be difficult for him to handle a bunch of veteran players who used to be his contemporaries. A few years of honing under Toro's guidance will do the trick. But for now, I can't see Petron not appointing Toroman for the position. It's also part of Eala's desire to create the legacy he wanted to build with the MVP Group - something that got derailed because of his "ouster."

If superstars fail to adjust to Toroman's system, expect him to apply the heavy hand with Eala's blessings. Ron Jacobs had this way before - he was given absolute empowerment to run both the SMB and BGK teams without any interference from management. Players either had to shape up or ship out. I expect the same thing no less under Toro's guidance - although he'd be limited only with Petron as Tim Cone has absolute hand at B-Meg and someone will be running the state of affairs at BGK.

With rumors of Washington on the way out, it would just be start of the expected roster turnover-- Toroman-flavored, Eala-approved of course.
