Actually, Ginebra also uses Prince Caperal as a stretch big. But yeah, the SMC teams generally play traditional lineups. Small-ball lineups too, although Cone and Austria do go small from time to time. Victolero sometimes goes small with Abueva and sometimes Rome and Dionisio, but generally he has a traditional lineup.

SMB won those championships in the last 7 yrs or so thru overwhelming edge on players' sheer talent alone.

Its like battling a war with a 3-to-1 edge in personnel, battle tanks, artillery & aircraft. Even lousy generals & officers could win such a war.

      • WAIT.

Actually it is like a delayed 3 team trade between SMB, Northport, and Phoenix. They got:

        SMB: Vic Manuel

        Phoenix: Sean Anthony, Manganti, SRP

        Northport: Arwind Santos

Hmmm. imo, SMB lost this trade.

That's precisely why I agree with you regarding the 1-import limit, and partly that for the Fil-foreigners.

The issue that I have with the Fil-foreigner rule is that FIBA eligibles (Parks, Wright, Gabe, Kelly, shouldn't be included in the limit. They deserve a chance to grow alongside homegrowns so that we might be able to use at least some of them in international competitions. Our best FIBA eligibles should be given chances, whether homegrown or overseas-based or with foreign blood.

I like this trade, to be honest. I'm an SMB hater eh, so let SMB suffer (hopefully) for what look like a not so wise trade

But yeah, I get it, for the sake if neutrality & objective analysis, this trade seems not going SMB's way.

But who knows, SMB has other things in mind. Maybe they're planning to get Roosevelt Adams or Malonzo to their fold. Either Adams & Malonzo are good stretch-four or combo forward.

good lord, Adams is a natural swingman not a combo forward or a stretch four. haha

The Manuel-JMF combo is like having Scola and Yao playing together in the post moneyball NBA (07-11 Rockets)
If PBA lists both Arwind & Vic Manuel as 6-foot-4, then maybe Sam Daghlas must be a legit 6-foot-7.

Yet Daghlas passed the 6-foot-3 height limit PBA set for Asian imports some years ago

no. i believe manuel will be a pawn for a more better trade.

Overall this is a loss for SMB. Not sure why their dropping Arwind. It's a sign they are moving on from the Death 5. A Malonzo trade should be next or they will miss Arwind a lot. On the defensive end Arwind has a major edge over Manuel. But not at much on the offensive end. Manuel will not space the floor for June Mar but their convincing wins against TNT was not when June Mar was leading them it was the two games that Mo led them. With June Mar's current weight he is not as much a defensive liability but he is not as dominant offensively. He can't overpower double teams like he usually did. But he can still command space. And this is what Mo used to pound points in the paint. If not for Mo's injury SMB would've probably won game 7 like they did game 6.

                      • Are we seeing the end of the original RSA boys? Age is slowly creeping up, and news of player movements within the SMC camp are dominating social media almost every week. Greggy boi, Japeth, now Arwind. Among the next batch, only CJ is secured. Standhardinger seemed like he doesn't want to be a lackey. Iskati and Calvin seemed still relevant, but making news for the wrong reasons tho

They now need the likes of Malonzo, Munoz, Bollick etc to be herded soon.

Scottie would have been traded already if not for Tim Cone. Lol.

At least SMC listens to Coach Tim. Or maybe they also fear of losing Coach Tim Cone. Hehe. After all, he is the coach who snapped Ginebra out of 8 year Title drought.

Onwubere was a small-ball center. Can Cone try to play him at 3?

I think Onwubere can play the 3.

About the trade, Ginebra gave up a damaged goods for an improved one.
