As to imports, I personally think that the whole season should be import-laden, without a height limit. However, like I'd said, the All-Filipino tournament is still considered by the PBA (and plenty of fans) to be the crown jewel of the season, so that will be a hindrance to a full season with imports. These guys will need a lot of convincing.
And for the nth time, they should schedule it from October to July. Kaya nahihirapan ang mga PBA teams na makakuha ng mga "fresh" at high-quality imports eh, lagi silang nauunahan ng halos lahat ng pro-leagues sa mundo adherent to the Oct-to-June season calendar. Kung makakuha man ng mga high quality during the months of June to September, those imports are already tired na for the year and are no longer in tip-top shape. It may not show on how they perform when playing in the PBA, but if you imagine them being well-rested on their supposed off-season months, they probably can give their respective teams more quality play.

Plus, the break's in line with the FIBA season. Willing PBA players would have more time to train and practice with Gilas. I only hope the mother teams are willing too.

Yes bro, that too. Instead of personal workouts, they'll be indoctrinated to a more disciplined system of play and learn more about the ways of international ball. Kung mapili sila sa final 12, that's great. If not, at least there's a semblance of professional growth na dapat pa nga ikatuwa ng mga handlers at mother teams ng mga chosen PBA players eh if ever that happens.

For example, Haddadi, Sakakini, Jonathan Galloway or even KSA big man Al-Suwailem.. those imports are cheaper than American imports but can give a big impact in a team.. In CBA, Haddadi sometimes put by his CBA team as world import, bukod sa magaling na, mura pa presyo.. PBA has to be creative.. di lang American imports ang options.. There are so many options that they should do.. That 6'5 height limit is non-sense..
Really hope they bring back the Asian import rule.

Even the "great" Brownlee can't stood a chance against those two..Sayang nga if PBA allowed Andray Blatche to play that time eh it will raise the standards more.. imagine Jones vs Blatche in the PBA? Filipino fans are now smart.. People love watching high quality players, It worth watching naman talaga.. Kaysa naman panay AFC or a 6'5 height limit..
Yes, that 2019 season's Commissioner's Cup. I agree, it set the bar too high in terms of import selection. Too bad the pandemic happened and we're deprived of watching super imports in the league for almost 2 years now. We would also have seen the effects of Coach Tab's tactical immaturity comment, if it would have affected changes in the local coaching scene.

this! there should be no limit for fiba eligible fil-fors or just consider any player who got ph passport before 16 as local.

Works for me too. As much as I wanna see Ginebra win, I also wanna see them develop players instead of relying on trades for stars. If CStand leaves, that's a new opportunity for Prince Caperal and Ken Holmqvist, both of whom I wanna see on bigger roles.

Cone has to play his youngsters to see some continuity, or at the very least develop them into trade assets for future picks.

But, the PBA, well, right now, their standards are good for a retirement league for our best players. Thing is, they don't want to be a retirement league.

I also hope the PBA turns into a retirement league for the time being, as competition elsewhere (especially the imports) will help our players grow.

Still, I hope that someday there will be a premier Asian basketball league here in the Philippines, whether it's the PBA or some other league.

Ahh, protectionism as its finest. You know, if a PBA player isn't as talented in the first place to compete for a roster spot against fil-foreign players(Who are genuine Filipinos by law!) then they don't deserve to be in the league anyways. This is just discrimination and just sends a message that local Filipinos are not good enough to even try to compete and get better so they shut the door down.

The same should apply to our local collegiate leagues with their ridiculous ban on foreigners and restrictions on fil-foreigners. If our locals just aren't good enough maybe they should study really hard and shift into another career.

I thought that we lack teams to give exposure to Filipino players. Besides what league has no player restrictions even for naturalized or dual citizens in Asia.

Fil-foreign players are Filipinos. That's the problem. The rule itself is outdated and discriminatory. The thing is, if a player is not talented enough to get a roster spot in the league against fellow Filipinos then they shouldn't be in the league until they're good enough period. The PBA wants to brand itself as a premiere league but continues to baby its players with these nonsense fil-foreign rules and 6'6 import height limit. It's no wonder why the talent level stagnated so hard after being one of the best in Asia decades ago. The PBA itself never bothered to keep up with the times and the result is showing. A stagnated, slowly dying league.

I still think the best FIBA-eligible players should get the exposure, mapa-'pure' or 'Fil-foreigner.'
