Ang lumalabas eh every basketball player is obliged to apply for the PBA draft the moment he is eligible. How could it be "mandatory" for a basketball player to apply for the PBA draft the moment he is eligible to enter the PBA? This is clearly Unconstitutional and a violation of our basic rights. This to think that PBA is a private entity. I understand the logic or principle behind the mandatory enlistment to the Phi military of every male Filipino citizen above 18 years old during the times of war. Its well within public interest. But this anti-dodging rule by the PBA is clearly not within public interest but against it.

The last time I check, we are still in a democratic form of government. This anti-dodging rule by the PBA is very autocratic.
Yeah, it's against public policy. Such rules should be declared void by the courts or any other tribunal. Someone will have to file a case.

There's still a way to circumvent that, though. Get offers from overseas leagues, then apply for the draft, then sign the overseas offer before the PBA team that drafted them even makes an offer.

but isn't it on the proposed #3, the contract of the players has not been signed and yet they will impose a probable ban

if they dont sign they'll get a 5 year ban (including fiba license)

the pba team just have to offer a contract ti lock the player and compel him to sign or else be banned playing bball for 5 yrs

I think if somebody raises this to any court or tribunal, even a non-lawyer putting an oral argument regarding this would win the case easily & put PBA people into great embarrassment.

Problema dyan brad eh PBA would once again create another shitty rule to counter a possible circumvent.

            Correct.

But maybe for now, wala pa. We'll never know in the very near future. Hope that sooner, the likes of the Ravenas, or Kobe Paras would be on a collision course with the PBA regarding this shitty anti-dodging rule.

take for example ellis. he did not sign his contract with Blackwater after he got traded, yet he was still able to play in the Thailand League so he got clearance?

if you're a basketball player kasi you want to keep all options open as you only have a small window to earn, this is probably the biggest reason why they dint want to unionize in the first place, even thirdy ravena is smart enough not to drew ire of the pba by sending that letter/promissory note to the pba. Japan can give you 3x the salary but long term financial stability is still with the empires unfortunately.

so probably kobe, kiefer and the rest of the new breed will comply or be domesticated as you dont want to be on the sh*t list of 2 of the country's top oligarchs.

btw will the pba still implement the letter/notice things for prospective foreign league bound players?

Ang lagay eh, hindi ka pa PBA player at you have nothing yet to do with that shitty pro league, pero kailangan mo muna mag paalam or mag notify sa PBA that you want to play in a foreign pro league. Its like PBA has "ownership" of every amateur player the moment they are already eligible for the PBA.

So now that Kobe Paras has forgone his college playing eligibility with UP which makes him eligible for the next PBA draft, eh parang sa ngayon its almost like pag-aari na sya ng PBA, that if Kobe wants to play in the G-league or any foreign league, he needs to ask permission or consent from the PBA. And failure to do so might doom Kobe's future basketball career.

... so an option really, as shared in this forum, is for someone to bring this to court for any violation of our labor laws and the like... or worst bring it to the attention of FIBA, among other things that SBP is not acting it seems like an entity

Yeah! We'll wait for a "violator" of this shitty anti-dodging rule & if the PBA imposes a lifetime ban on that violator, then that same violator would bring his case to the court or any tribunal.

Hope PBA gets grave embarrassment before any court or tribunal. Yung tipong ang PBA Commissioner will be compelled to resign or worse, should be forced to step down. Kung pwede nga lang kaladkarin from his post, why not?

                        • If somebody explains to FIBA about this shitty anti-dodging rule by the PBA, FIBA people would realize that such rule is counter productive to FIBA's advocacy of promoting good basketball development program among member countries. We all know that this anti-dodging rule is an anti-national team & pro-SMC move by the PBA. No need to elaborate, everyone here knows what I'm implying.

... and also explain to FIBA how our SBP is not truly an "independent" body or federation so it seems here in the Phl.

... especially now that work is so essential, players having offers or opportunity abroad will truly seek redress in situations where the PBA would be "blocking" them from getting a job or work.

                            I hope...

                              • : A New Basketball league created by a former PBA and UAAP star, recently got approved by the SBP as an official member.

Sources say that this new league will strictly adhere to FIBA officiating in it's games.⁣

The creation of the league was inspired due to recent controversies in Philippines Basketball.
