it would stay the same for years to come especially after that deduction of max salary from 500k to 350 k
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

And it will only change if there's a commissioner who's totally in control.

A sophomore's max salary is P225k while a junior is P337.5k. On his 4th year, he can now ask for the max salary allowed for any PBA player at P420k. Hence, if he signed a one-year contract, it's not because he will be getting higher than P225k next season simply because this is disallowed as it will exceed the player cap for a second year player.

The likely reason is that Lutz may want to explore other options like playing for the national team, moving back to the US, among others. I'm sure it has been explained to him that he just can't move to another team in the PBA even if his contract has expired already brought about by the right-of-first refusal rule in the PBA that favors the team that last held a contract with him.
Jay I heard Matt is negotiating for a salary higher than 225k for Chris' new contract but less than the max. If ever this could be a first time a sophomore would do such a thing. That's also one of the reasons Petron secured Marcio's services just in case Lutz walks away.

So Chis Lutz possible contract will be

              2012-2013 = 225K/month

              2013 -2014 = 420K/month

              2014-2015 = 420K/month

If that so, risky but wise move.

For sure he will get that one.

Jay does the PBA Commissioner have the power to disallow this. Even though we do have a Maximum Rookie Contract rule, the PBA never anticipated somebody would do such a ploy as even Super Rookies Arnie Tuadles, Ricardo Brown and Benjie Paras secured long-term contracts when they started. I know there is no rule in black and white which disallows a one-year Rookie to negotiate a Max Contract in his renewal.

                • PBA donates P1M, pledges support for flood victims

The PBA announced on Wednesday that it will donate P1 million in cash for relief efforts for victims of the torrential rains that battered the country this week.

“PBA is always ready to respond to the needs of our kababayan. Our track record bears that out,” league commissioner Chito Salud said.

“We send our deepest sympathy to the victims.”

Salud also pledged the league’s support for other relief activities.

“Our team owners and our players are ready to take part in any activity that supports the cause of alleviating the plight of those families victimized by the recent floods,” he said.

The donation is apart from efforts by players, coaches, and officials to raise funds for relief efforts. On Tuesday, SMART-Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes suggested that each player, coach, and official donate P5,000 to the cause, with a target to raise another P1 million. Reyes said the MVP Sports Foundation will also match that donation.

“I am so proud of our pba players who are eager to help out the victims of the recent floods. They are truly responsible and kind hearted individuals. They are ready to donate from their own pockets and to participate in relief operations to show their genuine concern.”
One million? That's like a couple of max contracts and one rookie contract only!

Asi Taulava sets charity game for flood relief

Star center Asi Taulava, who spent the past two seasons with the Meralco Bolts, is organizing a charity basketball game, with proceeds going to relief operations for those affected by floods brought about by the torrential rains that have hammered the Philippines this week.

The game, which is set on August 26, will feature PBA players as well as showbiz celebrities. Doug Kramer of Barako Bull, Renren Ritualo of Air 21, Beau Belga of Rain or Shine, Billy Mamaril of Barangay Ginebra, and Mac Cardona and Sol Mercado of Meralco have already confirmed participation with other celebrities expected to be announced soon.

People can donate in cash and in kind during the event, which is organized with the help of James and Griffin Multimedia and Atleta.

Those who want to volunteer may email asitaulavatherockcharitygame@yahoo.com. For updates, follow the organizers @femaleagentsr , @mrslava_lava , and @asitaulava5 on Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, the PBA announced that it was donating P1 million for flood relief efforts. This was in addition to efforts by players, spearheaded by SMART-Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes, to collect P1 million among themselves for flood donation, an amount that will be matched by the MVP Sports Foundation.

The maximum salary cap rule can be executed to the fullest by the Commissioner. This is indicated accordingly in the PBA Constitution. Unless the clause on the maximum rookie contract is vague, the assumption is that any sophomore player, regardless of contract tenure, should be receiving a maximum P225k monthly salary. A third year player's max is P337.5k. A fourth year player can now receive the maximum salary of P420k.

What may not be within the powers of the Commissioner is the three-year contract stipulation. This is only an unwritten arrangement among the PBA Board of Governors - hence, when someone wants to offer a contract to a player longer than 3 years, then he can do so without expecting resistance from the Commissioner. He would be getting flak though from his co-governors for violating this gentleman's arrangement. But the Commissioner's hands are tied and cannot expect to sanction any PBA team who decides to give more than 3 years in a player's contract.

Banned Allado uses free time to help flood victims

                        August 09, 2012, 08:29 pm

PBA veteran Don Allado has a lot of free time in his hands these days, and he is using it for a good cause.

The Barako Bull slotman, recently suspended for one conference over his rant on Twitter that pro league games are fixed, was among those who came out to lend a hand to victims of the disastrous floods that hit the metropolis this week.

The 33-year-old helped cook and pack food for some 300 flood victims in a resto bar in Quezon City on Wednesday afternoon at the height of the monsoon rains' onslaught.

The former La Salle star has also donated clothes to evacuees at Ateneo's Katipunan campus, where covered courts are being used as relief centers. He later delivered food to a school in Barangay Tumana in Quezon City.

“I help because I can,” Allado said when contacted by Spin.ph on Thursday.

Allado's rants have led to a P500,000 fine and losses of roughly P2 million in salaries and bonuses due to the one-conference ban. His Twitter account has been inactive since he tweeted an apology on July 4.

Ironically, it was also through the microblogging site that Spin.ph learned about the banned cager's noble gesture.

Fellow player Paolo Bugia, Allado's former rival from Ateneo during their college careers, posted this photo on his Twitter account of Allado and other volunteers preparing food packs for flood victims.

The caption read: "@alotofdon helping out prepare food packs for relief centers."
