Like Crisano, before he actually played for Powerade this 2012 he gotten his release papers first from the Barako Bull Energy Boosters (now the Air21 Express) even if he last played for the team in 2010.
And that's why there was talk before Kenneth Duremdes playing one last farewell game for Powerade when he has actually already retired and had become the team's Team Manager.LABAN KUNG LABAN! KAYA NATIN PILIPINAS!

The most logical explanation about the 1 year deal would be Lutz (and/or his agent) decision to immediately reconstruct (meaning, "extend" or "renew" technically speaking) the ROOKIE contract. This means he immediately gets an increase not like his other batchmates who would have to play out the longer 2-3 year contracts. If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

The likely reason is that Lutz may want to explore other options like playing for the national team, moving back to the US, among others. I'm sure it has been explained to him that he just can't move to another team in the PBA even if his contract has expired already brought about by the right-of-first refusal rule in the PBA that favors the team that last held a contract with him.

It's a high-risk high-reward move considering the threats of injuries in basketball but it looks like it will pay off this time.If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

A rookie's max salary is P150k. A sophomore's max salary is P225k while a junior is P337.5k. On his 4th year, he can now ask for the max salary allowed for any PBA player at P420k. Hence, if he signed a one-year contract, it's not because he will be getting higher than P225k next season simply because this is disallowed as it will exceed the player cap for a second year player.

But because he accounted himself well, nearly winning the ROY award, he would obviously get a bigger share of the incentive pie.
So while others say have a 3 year rookie scale max (175, 225 and 337.5) Lutz can now work on a long-term 3-year with the sophomore year as base, right? This means a guaranteed 225, 337.5 and then the max-420 just in his second year in the league. (This is on assumption it's a 3 year deal only since he can sign 4-5 years?) In effect, in just his 2nd year he already have secured a max in the future for years 3, 4 or so... (Aside from the incentives we mentioned)If there is no basketball in heaven, i am NOT going.

This is an offshoot of previous transactions made when Tanduay Rhum offered Danny Ildefonso P96M for a 16-year contract that would have started in 2001. He would have been receiving a monthly pay of P500k as such. Ditto with Kenneth Duremdes, probably the last of the monster contracts offered when he got a 8-year deal worth P48M as Alaska was forced to match the offer sheet given by Mobiline Phone Pals in 2001. This enabled Duremdes to receive the max pay of P500k a month even at the time when the PBA had already brought down the maximum salary of a player from P500k to P350k (subsequently increased last season to P420k). Because of the preposterous contracts being wangled out, the PBA Board decided to rein on the length of the contracts to a maximum of 3 years.
As for Lutz, this will give him a chance to receive the maximum P420k salary for the 2014-15 season, assuming he signs a fresh pact of 3 years with the Blaze Boosters.
