So now that the Powerade franchise was acquired by Mike Romero & as you seem to insinuate, Romero might be a puppet of the SMC group, how then will it affect Garry David & Jayvee Casio's stint with Gilas-2 national pool?

Well, I hope there's no truth to that suspicion that Romero is a puppet of SMC & I also hope that Romero isn't as wicked as the SMC group!
They'd be in hot water if they pull Casio and David out of the national team. They'll get criticized all over for this - so expect other scenarios to unfold like an unexpected injury for David here or a wedding date for Casio there - all to make sure they won't be around for the big dance. Or Romero putting his foot down and saying he's not comfortable of lending the two unlike his predecessor, Powerade.

But then, I remain hopeful they'll be around. Rico Villanueva is with the SMC Group but we don't see him being pulled out. Let's see how it pans out. I'm not that optimistic however.

After sale, status of Powerade Tigers coaches, players remains uncertain

      Rey Joble, InterAKTV · Tuesday, July 31, 2012 · 6:00 pm

Management of Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. met with players and coaches of the Powerade Tigers Monday night to tell them about the PBA franchise’s sale to a firm headed by Mikee Romero.

But according to coach Bo Perasol, team executive Ronnie Asuncion did not answer their questions about the status of their live contracts, except to say that it was part of the deal with Romero. Asuncion added that the team should just wait for the return of the businessman from the London Olympics, where he travelled to support shooter Brian Rosario as president of the Philippine National Shooting Association.

Most members of the Tigers still have live contracts, except for Lordy Tugade, whose deal will expire in August.

Superstar guard Gary David, who signed a maximum extension earlier this season, is hopeful that he will be part of the new squad.

“Sana maganda na yung takbo under Mikee and maiwasan yung naging problema before,” said David, who was part of the Burger King team that Romero had been in talks to buy in 2009. After an agreement to purchase the squad, Romero had taken control of the squad, only for the deal to fall through, leaving him out of the picture.

Earlier, Perasol blasted Coca-Cola management for the way it handled the sale of the franchise.

“Wala silang malasakit sa amin,” said Perasol, adding that members of the team only heard about the sale after the PBA’s announcement. “Wala kaming kaalam-alam na ibinenta na pala yung team, hindi na muna kami sabihan, especially sa mga taong mayroon silang obligasyon.”

Meanwhile, PBA commissioner Chito Salud has expressed confidence in Romero’s capability as a team owner.

“I think Mikee is now more financially capable and ready to join the PBA,” said Salud.

The sale, meanwhile, is not yet final, as it would require at least a two-thirds vote from the PBA Board of Governors for the deal to go through.

Similar case why RSA and not MVP won over PAL.

I think they also need to upgrade their players. Take Chris Ellis from the draft.

Sorry, I was not talking to U. That question was addressed to Jay P. Mercado & maybe to some posters who will not give me a sarcastic answer.

The same thing happened w/ SMC group when they refused to lend their players for the NT, yet those criticisms & ridicules fell to deaf dears. SMC was too stubborn & insensitive enough to listen to the clamor to lend their players for the NT. Would Mike Romero be the same?

              Well, I hope not.

Me too. I like to share your optimism sir. Like you, I would like that our current National training pool won't have to endure anymore obstacles or hitches na kapwa Filipino rin ang may kagagawan. In my humble opinion, those people or sectors who are not willing to help the national team should just remain still. Kahit wag na silang tumulong sa nat'l. team, wag na sana silang maging "obstacle" pa.

              • I see Alaska a winner in this years draft, 2nd pick over-all Chris Tiu then send the pick to Meralco for the 4th pick for either Hodge or Abueva plus considerations.... the considerations could be both heaven and paradise, a sweetheart deal that could mean survival in the league for another year?

But if it was up to me and not the Alaska management, i would ask for Borboran and the 4th pick... but knowing the Alaska circumstances it would be cash + cash + cash and maybe the 4th pick in the draft.

That's a practical choice but not an impacting decision. Chris Tiu is a sure crowd drawer, got the skills and leadership but Alaska needs someone who can bring an impact and reliability in the longest term possible. It should be a toss up between Chris Ellis and Cliff Hodge.

i won't be surprised if petron chooses chris tiu as #3 pick (fajardo as #1 is a fact already). imagine petron having lutz, lassiter, toroman, and tiu together.
AT SA TINGIN MO AY MAS MAHUSAY KA KESA KAY COACH CHOT?!

i think that the #1 pick is not yet sealed for Fajardo. as Fajardo still has a live contract with the SMB- ABL for 2 more years. im sure ALaska don't want to be in a RIcky RUbio scenario.
there will be a big surprise as you know fans=money=ROY=coach looks good= managment very happy= commish seals his job for another year and so on.
