  • Sobey in the PBA is probably a bad idea.

He just tried to pacify the situation. Just unfortunate on him he got dragged also on that brawl and got punched by Jalalon.

Sobey is pretty strong and athletic and some good touch from deep. Plays physical as well. I think he'll be fit in PBA.

      • Not saying Sobey did anything wrong, just think its a bad idea. The entire circus.

But sometimes, we have to raise the standards for both height and skill, especially at the frontcourt spots. Dami natin masyadong 3-guard lineups, and then undersized players at the frontcourt positions.

Agree. Imagine a team like Phoenix for instance. They have Wright, Banchero, Manuel, Chua and Perkins as starters. Insert Joshua Fox at the wing, Phelps at center and Chabi Yo at the power forward.

            Phelps - 6'6
            Chabi Yo - 6'6
            Fox - 6'6
            Wright - 6'4
            Banchero - 5'11

            That could win a ring.

Well, these are all wishful thinking.

              Just saying. Haha
I think so too, and that import conference should at least have a 6'10" height limit, or take it away altogether. But, we should limit them to two at the most. One world import, and one Asia-Pacific or FSA.

And teams have to get the concept of role-player imports who don't have to play 40+ minutes per game. Having to get a ball-dominant high-scoring import all the time can stunt the growth of the locals.

That lineup is a legit-sized small ball lineup. Here in the Philippines, we're too small, whether it's a traditional or a small-ball lineup (which by the way I define using the 4 or 5, not the first 3 positions). The small ball 4 is 6'2"-6'3", 6'4" if you're lucky. Hope the addition of foreigners will force Filipinos to play smaller positions.

What is the better way to compensate FSA and Asia-Pacific players? Same salary as imports or same salary as locals?

Somewhere in the middle, although the salary line should be a bit closer to the import range.

its high time to eliminate those below 6'0 locals who have no exceptional skills, lets be honest we have a lot of minions who have shakey dribbling skills, poor shooting, awful at defense and poor physical conditioning, same with the players who are already way past their primes like santos, caguioa, kelly, fonancier, etc.The league should not lower their standards by accommodating those fringe players/about to retire players. the best way to increase competition and level of play is to weed them out.

PBA is the highest level of pro play in the country, it follows that a player should be exceptional for him to last in the league. The PBA is not for everyone

i think FSAs should get the same salary as the locals as only a few of them have career options (basketball) outside the country, whereas, to entice asian players to play for the PBA, import level pay is needed

If PBA would head this way, better for them to rank all the FSAs who played here for the past 5 to 10 years from class A (fringe UCBL FSAs), AA (Ebondo, Mammie, Taane, etc.) up to AAA (Chabi Yo, Bright, Oraeme, Diuof, etc.), with AAA getting at least the rookie max. If in the same class as Mbala, it should be local player max.

I agree with your assessment on APAC imports pay, but i think most of them would only accept PBA offers if the conference schedule would not be in conflict with the schedule of the mother leagues they play in. If it does conflict and still they choose PBA, it has gotta be an offer that's very hard refuse.

if this would push through, i wonder, should FSA have their own draft or be signed as direct hires like imports? ha ign a fsa draft would de facto create the tiers, the first 3 picks could get the rookie max while the late draftees salary gets smaller in proportion to the number they are drafted

I think if PBA finally give a slot to FSAs, there is no need for a draft. Just let teams find one FSA that will fit to their teams' scheme of things. The same with APAC players. Recruit them like imports but treat them as locals.

I agree. After all, it's mostly for the height (no stupid height limits, please) and athleticism why PBA teams will be after these 2 kinds of imports in the first place, and even if already in their 30's, could still give quality for teams in the 3, 4 and 5 positions.
