  • i dont think it is wise to let go of Yeo and Baclao at the present. Petron should postponed this decision until the result of the 2012 Draft this August...If they could get Fajardo and another fresh legs for the position of Joseph Yeo then it would be the time to part with them thru a trade but not after such time...
i have too much heart in it to let it go quite yet...

    • but aside from that rumored trade, did you hear any other trade activities being prepared involving Petron? thanks

      • actually Petron already owns the first round draft picks of Air 21 and Barako Bull for the 2012 PBA Draft this August. But perhaps Petron would want their 2013 or 2014 first round draft picks to secure their bid for the other amateur players who will not join or cannot be considered eligible yet for the 2012 draft...

To deal with SMC is not unlike what Bong Tan did in 2002 when he traded his best players, Eric Menk, Rudy Hatfield, Dondon Hontiveros, among others, to SMC teams.

Tan did this to spite the PBA bigwigs led by Commissioner Jun Bernardino and prove that this was a SMC league. Wilfred Uytengsu may actually carry higher principles than Tan.
But i pray that Alaska wont quit PBA. I hope that it will have the patience to wait for the day where there would really be a more competitive PBA league...I am pretty sure that there is no "bentahan" so to speak among sister teams. But it is clear that there are monopolistic tendencies by powerful clubs to get the players that they want from other teams willing to make the trade happened (for undisclosed reasons). To an extent, this lessens the competitive balance of the league...There must be a rule (either written in the stone or a silent one) among PBA members that they should join hands in scouting/getting fresh Filipino talents (local and foreign-based) that would continuously ensure the success of PBA in maintaining/ upgrading the brand of players in the league. They have to ensure that PBA would be able to bring them here and make them show their wares to the Filipino basketball fans. Like Stanley Pringle, he should not be playing with an Indonesian team but instead to any PBA team as a Filipino. The "malikhain" traits of some officials in the government must make it sure that their "malikhain" character would benefit, this time, the interest of the Philippine basketball. If they are really Filipinos by blood, then it's just documents...it's not fair that we be denied of their talents just because of rules technicality. If foreign basketball rules (FIBA) makes it hard for us to get the best Filipino talents in the pool, then we should make our local rules (even with the "malikhain" documents) flexible to work for our benefit. Let us ensure that they can play for flag and for our league.

My bad sir. Apparently I undervalued Norwood too much hehe. But I'd rather have a TnT backcourt of Castro-Norwood-Reyes-Alapag.

                  • I think it would be more appropriate here if a poster would mention his/her source on every trade rumor that is being posted.

Though still pending the approval of PBA COMMISSIONER CHITO SALUD, GABBY ESPINAS will no longer be part of MERALCO practice starting today.

No word yet if JR REYES has already been informed by ALASKA ACES COACHING STAFF of the imminent trade.

I don't know how they'll gonna pull this off--- BUT ALASKA already committed number 10 jersey to GABBY ESPINAS next season. It's BARACAEL's.

Will MERALCO be THE MAROON JR REYES' last stop? Let's wait & see. Remember "WALANG ISANG LINGGO SA AMIN ANG SHOP NG TNT, MERALCO at AIR 21"

So JR REYES is now with MERALCO. Now unless he gets traded soon. I don't know how JASON BALLESTEROS would get the playing time he needs. ,-)

                          • Alaska, Meralco swap big men Jay-R Reyes, Gabby Espinas

Alaska, Meralco swap big men Jay-R Reyes, Gabby Espinas

The Alaska Aces have completed their first major deal in the Luigi Trillo era.

The team has agreed to trade center Jay-R Reyes to the Meralco Bolts in exchange for power forward Gabby Espinas.

“I have already talked to [Meralco team executive] Mon Segismundo and told him it was a done deal,” said Alaska general manager Joaqui Trillo in a telephone interview.

The transaction also gave the Aces the right to switch draft picks with the Bolts in the upcoming draft. “If mas mataas makukuha namin sa first round, hindi na kami magpapalit.”

The move reunites Reyes with Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio, who recruited the center to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons. Gregorio described the trade as a win for both teams.

“We need a five-man, they need a four-man,” said Gregorio, who added that the Bolts are preparing for the eventual retirement of veteran center Asi Taulava.

This will mark the third time in two years that Reyes will switch jerseys. He was traded by Rain or Shine to Air 21 last season prior to the Commissioner’s Cup, before being acquired by the Aces before the Governors’ Cup.

Espinas has been a solid contributor, starting at power forward for the Bolts. But Gregorio earlier expressed concern about the health of Espinas, who was suffering from a herniated disc.

I wonder if this rule still existing in the PBA...if the player is injured, he cannot be traded or being part of a trade between teams.

                              • dunno... Gabby is a very valuable especially at the 4 position and he is not as pricey as JayR....but Popeyes health would be an issue.. neverthless it is a "relief" type of trade for Alaska
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
