ah yes. forgot about him. he wasnt really effective in their rotation. that sergeant kid. he and nabong are of little value to the team now that tautuaa is there. i think the only valuable player they traded was romeo. but not as much value as pringle.

Too many moving parts to come up with such a criteria. Even a single player's value is as subjective as it gets. How much more if it's a 2 for 1, or current player for a pick. True, the closest thing to determine a player's worth is, like the NBA has been doing, thru his salary. But we all know even that is not perfect. Yet the NBA lives by it because that's the closest it could get to a tangible proof based swap.

Stats based evaluation won't cut it. One coach could trade for someone not producing (someone given limited minutes being buried in the depth chart, someone on the "doghouse") giving up a decent player with decent stats if they feel said player could be a better fit. That's gunning for ceiling rather than floor.

Coming up with a criteria is an ideal concept. But not all ideas are feasible. All the intangibles that the two swapping sides (not necessarily the commish's office) take into account make for a tedious, if not impossible, task to come up with such criteria that encompasses any form of trade. People can lobby though, for PBA to come up with one. But I just don't see this happening, maybe not in the near future. Maybe not ever.

Push comes to shove, we might end up adopting the NBA way. Not perfect, but workable. It's not like the NBA is devoid of controversial trades itself. These things are just too polarizing, especially for us fans.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

No argument, and ultimately, what can limit the frequency of questionable decisions is to set up a working benchmark. Not perfect, definitely, and we've seen that in the NBA. But it does help protect both teams, and more importantly, the league itself.

A repeat of the CS incident is something that the PBA doesn't want to happen. Not just because it polarized the league, but it alienated the fans, limited as they are now. In this age when Marcial is working his butt off trying to convince fans to watch the games again, questionable trade decisions just won't cut it.

              • A draft lottery would have been another way to deny the cellar dwellar the outright privilege of the top pick. But for a league that reaps millions out of franchise fees alone, they're too cheap to buy a decent bingo ball machine.

                      • Ginebra got Chan for a first-round pick while TNT gave up two players and a pick for Cruz. Fair?

As Jay P. Mendoza has pointed out a few days ago.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Did the PBA's TV ratings & gate attendance dip by a significant proportion during the mid & late 2000's when Philippine basketball sucked in international competitions?

That was the era when we got suspended by FIBA in 2005, we stumbled to forgettable 9th & 8th places in the 2007 & 2009 editions of FIBA Asia Championships.

Did the PBA experience some sort of "recovery" after that historic silver medal finish of Gilas in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship & subsequently that historic stint in the 2014 FIBA World Championship after about 4 decades of absence?
