Caguioa plays the 2 spot while Chan plays the 3 spot which he has to share minutes with Justin Brownlee & Ferrer. I don't see Caguioa's playing time affected by Chan's entry as much it would affect Ferrer's playing time. Besides, Caguioa is already retirable. It won't hurt Caguioa na mababangko sya as much as it would hurt Ferrer's young pro career who is only on his 2nd season in the PBA.

yeah but they are basically new in the league and they are building the team like RoS. which might take them about 4 or 5 years to really have a good team throught draft. and trading jeff chan for a first round is a good start. they also have their own first round draft pick. if they can land parks or rike or dominggo,CJ perez or bolick then should be okay.

Chan is already 34, and w/ the way he has played in the last 2 years, its obvious that his game is going downhill. In 2 to 3 years, baka subrang washed-up na laro nya.

So yes, I think this is a smart move by Phoenix. Perhaps Phoenix expects a good batch of rookies in the coming draft & having 2 draft picks in the 1st round (their own pick & that gained from the Jeff Chan trade) will do the trick.
they will have a chance to draft two marquee players from the draft. which is a good move to be honest. as for GSM also a good move since ferrer and manuel hasn't really developed well as a shooter. with chan good for like 2 years and he can mentor them too. so all is well i suppose.

          • Getting a first round pick for a 34 yr old Chan is a good deal for Phoenix.

              • Chan should get tons of open looks in Ginebra. And he should draw the defense away from their bigmen

                      • Trying to figure out how balanced this trade agreement was...

Jeff Chan, who averages twin digits in points and decent numbers in boards and dimes, was traded for Ginebra's first round pick.

A couple of months back, ROS traded a disgruntled Jericho Cruz to TNT for a future first round pick, Sidney Onwubere, and Kris Rosales. That's 3 players!

Cruz's numbers back then, since he was benched by Caloy Garcia, were significantly lower than Chan. Chan's Gilas experience and credentials are definitely far better than Cruz. What was the basis of this decision?

Did the committee approve of this trade? Another sinister move favoring one conglomerate?

I think its a fair trade. Chan has been inconsistent at phoenix and is already 34yrs old. They also have Jazul, Dejesa, Wright. I do wish tho that they got an extra player, maybe Jet manuel since he's not getting any playing anyways

No, it's not a fair trade, no matter what perspective you look at it. Compare that with the Cruz trade and you can only shake your head in disgust. The aftermath of the CS controversial trade hurt TNT more when they got Cruz and Romeo, losing so much in return to ebb the feelings of the fans.

But now that the tide has settled, it's "happy days all over again?"

And besides, the league should not even take a look at the team's roster when approving trade decisions. It doesn't matter if you have Wright, Lassiter, Yap, etc. in your lineup. What matters is who the parties involved in the trade, and from there, look at the grander scheme that'll protect the PBA and its parity.

In this case, the PBA is indeed trying to protect itself by allowing Ginebra to get what they want and bring back the fans...

                            • Cruz's numbers with ROS in his last 3 games in the PHL Cup, an indication of how bad his season was, before being traded:

                              2 points, 1.3 boards, 1.6 dimes, 1.0 turnover. 0.6 steals

Chan's numbers with PHX this conference (import-laden at that):

                              11.6 points, 4.4 boards, 4.1 dimes

                              Is that fair?
