    • Phoenix acquired KIA. they’re now sister teams

For all intents and purposes, Phoenix Petroleum won its final PBA game with Kia Picanto as adversary Wednesday night. The next time they play against each other, they will be labeled as sister teams.

So does this mean that the SMC bloc is now down to 4 teams?

                  • with the reported acquisition of phoenix of kia, they should add 2 more teams in the PBA to make it more balance now that only globalport, blackwater, alaska and ROS doesn't have a sister teams like the SMC group (smb, ginebra, magnolia) and the MVP group (tnt, nlex, meralco). they can also form alliances if that's what is going to be trend in the PBA.

perhaps they can add a team from a powerful company such SM or ayala group.

                    • Dandan admits KIA losses taking toll on him: 'I feel I've been coaching here forever'

Ricky Dandan had a KIA coaching debut he'd much rather forget. Dante Peralta
IT’S not exactly the most ideal PBA coaching debut.

But Ricky Dandan took the punch like a man and endured this latest in a series of KIA losses.

The new Picanto mentor watched his team disintegrate in the second half and absorb a 124-77 rout at the hands of Magnolia on Wednesday night to mark his coaching debut in the Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Everything appeared to be going right for the Picanto in the first two quarters when they managed to hold their own against the Hotshots and even lead at the half, 49-47.

Unfortunately, they came undone in the second half, allowing the Hotshots to finally take control and win the game pulling away.

The Picanto have now lost their first outings in the all-Filipino conference, extending their losing streak dating back to last season to 15th overall - the longest in the league in the last decade as per PBA head statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

“I feel that I’ve been coaching here forever,” said Dandan, who took over the coaching post following the resignation of Chris Gavina two days before the New Year.

“It’s tiring. I feel very tired,” he added. “I tried to encourage our guys to make a comeback, try to use the lineup, but obviously, to no avail.”

                      • Tambak pa more

U can never cheat the basketball gods.

Kia is just getting what it deserves. That's poetic justice. What can we expect from a team (team owner) who never intends to win but is only after for money? What can we expect from a team who disrespects the integrity of the sport? I have nothing against the players & the coaching staff of Kia. I, in fact pity them for the misery that their team is facing right now.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. • Backreading to before KIA PICANTO joined the league and the fear of something like this is palpalable throughout the posts back in 2014.
Chito Salud led baffling moves in the expansion draft and the announcement of Manny Pacquiao as coach of Kia.
                            Remember those simplier times?
Point is, what this team is now is a result of bad decisions made by the league then.
Shows how pro active and far looking the objectives of the board is.

                            • More than this KIA fiasco, the league should look at how imbalance the teams now in terms of bench strength which includes the needed bodies for each positions in the team. Joe Lipa's position-less team concept (more a palusot) is just stupid. PBA should remove this restriction on branding where a new team cannot be a direct competitor. Another stupid idea that has to be removed. It limits the growth of the league and hence limits the opportunities for very good players, case in point are fil-pinoys strutting their wares in ABL or the like. The likes of Eman, Potts, et al, languishing to find themselves a palce in the rotation when the solution is to farm them out to new teams. PBA lacked vision for many years. No innovation, yeah they need to earn money but they also have a responsibility to make this institution competitive.

                              • Teng, Aces pummel listless Picanto

                                Denison Rey A. Dalupang (Associated Press) - January 14, 2018 - 6:30pm
MANILA, Philippines — Alaska cruised to its second straight victory in the PBA Philippine Cup at the expense of a hapless Kia side, Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Rookie Jeron Teng flirted with a double-double to lead the Aces, finishing with 23 points and nine boards.

Alaska, which has lost their its two games in the conference, simply clicked on all cylinders. The Aces drew double-digit scoring from five players to deal Kia its 16h straight loss since the last season.

"I really appreciate the effort of the guys today defensively. I think we got our teeth back on defense,” head coach Alex Compton said of his Aces.

“[Although] I thought our defensive energy was a little undirected in the first half and it caused us to give up some baskets we don't want to give up. In the second half ,it was a little more focused.”

Kia leaned on Rashawn McCarthy and Eric Camson but their offensive edge withered away after the halftime break.

Alaska will try to keep their streak alive against Barangay Ginebra when they tangle on Sunday, January 21, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo; while Kia will try to arrest their terrible skid under new mentor Ricky Dandan when the take on Meralco on January 24 at the Big Dome.
